Hi Lauren, so glad you are feeling better and good to see you again. Just the tonic this boxing day morning to watch your episode and pick up the needles after all our festivities here in Australia. You are so natural in front of the camera and your content is amazing… Just jam-packed with interesting information and lovely knits. I would highly recommend the big love jacket by Ankestrick …. I tend to buy my patterns carefully, and generally look at the construction, gauge, etc and then like to make several versions but with slight modifications ie: different yarns, stitch details and work out the gauge from previous projects. I think once you’ve got the basic ‘shape’ that you’re comfortable with, there are endless possibilities…. For advanced knitters it is pretty easy and interesting to ‘copy’ and incorporate details from other patterns. (Sorry, if that’s not what designers want to read but we all have a budget and I’d rather spend my money on yarn than endless patterns)😂 So looking forward to watching your episodes next year. Take care, stay well and enjoy your Christmas. Von in Aus ❤
Hi Von! Thank you for your lovely message and I'm so sorry for the delayed reply. Hope you had a lovely time celebrating this Christmas! Ah yes the big love! Thank you for reminding me of the right name 😁 I am the same with altering patterns and re-knits!
On the question of size inclusivity - I usually verge on the plus size end of the spectrum, I’m usually an XL or 2XL so some patterns just won’t include my size. It’s a difficult question because whilst I and I’m sure plenty of other knitters would be appreciative of someone putting the work in to alter the pattern to fit us, what wouldn’t sit well for me would be that the designer is still getting the monetary benefit of me purchasing the pattern to be able to knit it, which on the one hand I don’t really want to support, and on the other hand you’re also not getting any benefit or credit for essentially making it accessible to me when the designer didn’t. It’s not a question that there’s a clear cut answer to I don’t think so I’ve probably not helped at all there 😂 but that’s my two cents!
