    For vermouth, get it in the smallest bottle available. It's wine based and can oxidize if you aren't careful. Refrigerate it after opening and it'll be good for a month.

    Had a guy come to a liquor store I worked at years ago, said he wanted to stock a home bar for his friends. A couple of us helped him as best we could, little bit of everything, and he was making the selections. All in all it was about $3,900 out the door. The very next weekend he was back, said that what he got was "okay" but he didn't have the stuff to make what everyone wanted. So we helped him out, and he ended up spending another $3,000. Then came back in because he forgot about beer, and bought $4,000 worth of beer. Kegs, bottles, cans, every brand and type you can imagine. Always seemed like a happy guy, good customer, was happy we helped. Had the news on at work like two weeks later, guy died in a car wreck.

I've been slowly accumulating bottles that I like (currently have some gin, rum, vodka, tequila, and bourbon) and finally set up a legit bar cart a few weeks ago. Besides bitters, grenadine, simple syrup, and triple sec, I wonder what else would be good to have on hand (I'm a huge fan of tropical/tiki drinks but also love me an old fashioned)

    • @alishaparr577
      @alishaparr577 11 месяцев назад +1

    • @lasrswordja
      @lasrswordja 9 месяцев назад

      If you like tiki drinks then expanding your rum choices is a good start. Lots of different spiced, aged and overproofed rums that can be utilized in all sorts of tiki drinks.
      Tropical flavours like passion fruit or lychee liquers, pineapple juice, mango juice and other sweet fruity juices, liquers and syrups will help you make a tiki drink that is both boozy and delicious.
      Could also grab yourself some brandy or cognac for brandy-based cocktails.

    Gin - Beefeater
    Rum - smith and cross for dark, denizen for light

    This is good for a basic bar, but don’t forget to save some money for the grocery store for sugar (to make simple syrup), lemons, limes, juices, etc. Another strategy I’ve found is to buy 1-2 spirits and then buy the liqueurs needed to make your favorite drinks. If you love Manhattans but not margaritas, then buy a bottle of vermouth before a bottle of tequila. You’ll go through more of what you like instead of having a basic bottle of something you don’t drink.

    For tequila, I'd actually replace it with an "ojo de tigre" mezcal. It's more flavorful without that grass taste. And it's great as a mixer AND shooter!

    I just want it to be said, they actually attempted to make this not just some generic “here’s what you need to start a bar” video, even tho that’s what it was the attempt at masking it gives the video a sense of self, also thanks for helping me stock my at home bar correctly

    Tequila, white rum, gin, vodka, whiskey and tripel sec are they essential basics of you ask me. Plus, all those (except the whiskey) are all needed for a classic Long Island Ice Tea.

    Just buy gin. Its basically vodka infused with botanicals,like juniper berries. It makes great mixed drinks. Sparkling water-any flavor. Lemonade, tonic. All fantastic with gin.

      Gin isn't bad but I find that its flavour completely overwhelms whatever drink I use it in, regardless of what else is mixed into the beverage.

      Don Q is the best of the puerto rican rums. Sadly it isnt as imported as bacardi.

      13 for 750 ml of Don Q where I am, 10 for cruzan, and Flor de Cana isnt widely available. Don Q is absolutely excellent, particularly for the price

    Dry vermouth for bourbon, sweet for rye. Honestly prefer the prior regardless.

    Gin, bourbon, rum and an orange liquor and you can make a lot of cocktails as a base

    Vodka appears in many classic cocktails, and given that it is "the most popular spirit" it should be included in any "bar starter pack."

    A good way to use ingreidents in small batches is infusing vodkas, you can rapid infuse vodka with fruits and herbs by using a isi whipper and nitrous chargers, get your ratios and ingreidents in the whipper, charge it with two nitrous chargers, let it hang out for about 10 or 15 minutes, then invert a glass over the nozzle and de gas the whipper with the nozzle pointing to the sky, if you invert the whipper youll just spray out your liquer
