Shooting those banshees a mile away and driving through the gates on that highway halo 2 mission was the best, the tank missions were never as fun after
The Halo Reach cannon feels the most powerful to me. The shaking of the camera with the sound of it demonstrates the force behind each shot. compare it to the later Halo games like 5 or Infinite, it feels flat and less scary.
while graphically inferior, at least the silly wings on the sides of the scorpions gun made a little sense in halo 2, housing a machinegun and ammunition on the right.. the left perhaps, for symmetry or optics.. but in the halo three tank, their no longer needed. since they removed the MG and put it in the hull, for god knows why. then in the reach version they made those wings larger, so the turret is a bigger target, while being the one version that can actually have the turret blown off in a single round. the halo CE and 2 scorpions where the only ones that where even remotely practical, and the second games the better of the two. though both models needed only a single crew member, and had proper anti infantry capabilities, the MG able to fully rotate 360 degrees. the later tanks increased the crew requirement by 100% and with it's hull mounted design, restricted the MG firing arch. practically, this tank would never see a battlefield in the real world. but even in universe it's still a silly design choice. if it was for balance they could have just made a second tank for multiplayer with a disabled MG to keep it from being overpowered.
It wasn’t even that over powered which makes it even more weird….most times someone is camping with a spartan laser anyways so you cant even use a tank. The left turret wing thingy has optics on the top of it on the reach design and if you look at the right wing the machine gun is still there so they just disabled it.
WHAT IF… So back in the day you could sit on and ride on the treads of a tank, but in later games that was traded out for an open topped side machine gun (Which was always kinda silly considering you were operating out in the open AS A LITERAL TANK is firing in your right ear), SO… I suggest making a scorpion variant that ditches said machine gun, move it back onto the tank turret, and increase the tank’s size to allow for a fireteam of 8 Spartans (Seven passengers, 1 driver) to be transported and engage from inside the tank through armored firing ports. Like how some arachnids will care for their young by hoisting them or their egg(s) on themselves until they grow up.
@@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire Seems like a cool idea, but that sounds more like an APC of some kind. The scorpion is supposed to be an MBT and it's already oversized, it's larger than an M1 tank, while only sporting a 90mm gun and a hull mounted MG. they could shrink the tank down and allow more mobility and make it easier to deploy. Something small like the British FV101 Scorpion, tiny and some with a 90mm gun.
@@skyfifer5443 I mean it IS the far future, so it could be a hypothetical future bleeding of the roles into each other. Besides, it would still make more sense then The Elephant to me.
Agreed. The sound, the fireball as the projectile exits the cannon, the explosion, and the excessive force/shake of each shot really conveys the power of the scorpion.

Halo reach scorpion > every other game scorpion
Agreed!
I mean it literally became the vehicles standard design
