I'm fortunate enough to have seen the original going through Clapham Junction in the mid 50's, I was probably 10 at the time. I've also been down to the open days at Atlantic House on a couple of occasions to view the rebuild in progress and I must say the quality of the work and the attention to detail is magnificent. It's been along time coming, but the wait is well worth it, so congratulations to the Bluebell Railway and the engineers and designers in bringing this to fruition. The loco has a nice healthy bark to it!
The bit we tend to forget is that this loco is one of the very rarest wheel arrangements left in working condition in the UK. Once an accepted design, then superceded by the 4-6-0 concept.
Over here in the states it's the same story with 4-8-2 mountain types, good locomotives, but overshadowed by 4-8-4 northerns. There is VERY FEW mountains left but a lot of northerns.
I had been fretting at the slightly lacklustre performance of the test runs, but hey, running in carefully. Then here we get to see her gleefully ascending Freshfield Bank con brio - all is well! Great video.
Dedication ceremony was super. Agree with the gentleman that said good after the Adams Radial being taken on by the Atlantic team! Excellent work my friend!
