    Straight up sold. That’s media. Organize the riders and go out in your own. Use the prominent small independent media outlets. Combine youtube creator resources and privatize DH. Establish a corporate entity of only riders. Leverage existing yourube channel subscriber base. You instantly have tens of thousands and it will only grow. Make the Redbulls chase you.

    I'd like to fully affirm that last part about Marshalls. I was the ONLY former serious downhill racer marshalling US Nationals this weekend. All the other volunteers had no DH background & it's so dangerous to the riders. Luckily I stuck to the most difficult marker on course, ran my butt off the make repairs to the flagging/poles as riders had all lines memorized . Anyone else positioned there helping me had no idea how dangerous someone clipping the pole on the rock drop could be.
    Encountered multiple different surprise issues pop up over the weekend. Can't imagine how difficult and dangerous it gets at World Cups where course Marshalls aren't DH racers. Excellent point.

    Awesome series and great points were made by BK.
    If you're not at the table, you're on the menu. Whether through a union or some other means, the riders need at least some decision-making authority at the table with UCI, broadcasters, and sponsors. Otherwise, this is unsustainable and it all falls apart, and everyone losses.

    BK is right about the commentators, I was worried that they'd give the job to some unknowns who would possibly ruin it (I'm remembering the Chris Boardman and Ed Leigh disaster at the London Olympics), but was quite pleased when I found out who they were using. However, I'm already over it and want Warner back. As for the shows, the talking and stuff before the races start seem to drag on too long and It's boring compared to Redbull and I dont have the time to watch the semi's as well as the race so, for me, they're unnecessary.

    Nice one Bernard, you're a hell of a business man so I think you're one of the riders who can clearly see it for what it is and you actually understand your own value as an athlete and as a marketing product. I don't think a lot of riders even understand that stuff. Yeah Cedric is an interesting one because he's not a great commentator but the man drops some absolute wisdom about the sport, simple little things he picks up on that you just don't know unless you have the experience in the sport. If he could only say that stuff and be quiet he would be really good.

    BK is 100% on the money. MTB across the globe is massive, and manufacturers are making billions collectively. In all other global sports, they sell products off their sport, and MTB is no different. However, in most other global sports, their superstars are all millionaires… yet most MTB pros still have a day job just to survive. Something needs to change.

    • @yetidh9
      @yetidh9 Год назад

      Cycling is huge, of course the big manufacturers are going to make money. That’s how it is. Mtb is small relative to road cycling. The top 500 road cyclists in the world can live comfortably from riding their bikes, with the top 50 being paid big money. Downhill mtb is so niche, that only a consistent top 20 rider can make a living from the sport. The top 5 are well paid. The take over by WB should mean more eyes on the sport, outside sponsors and bigger paychecks but it’s not going to happen overnight and I think Bernard and the riders will need to fight for it, unfortunately.
      But, there’s a bit of a paradox here. There’s a reason they have devoted their lives to a niche sport and it wasn’t for the money. Money could change the sport for the worse and everybody including the riders will wish it went back to ‘the good old days’ where the sport mattered more than the money.

    Go Riders Union!!! The riders are the sport. The sponsors would make no money if not for the riders. I hope the riders can come together and stick to their guns. If they value themselves at their actual worth they could be running things and in a few years have proper TV broadcasts and not just on the internet. Pro MTB stopped being about being wild and then pounding a few beers about a decade ago. They deserve nothing less.

    Seems like Bernard might be the guy for the top seat of the riders union. He clearly cares and would go out on a limb to hold the ground. The riders are the main actors in the sport, so they need to stand up now or you will end up with what the road riders have where they are completely pushed aside and have little voice in the safety and payment they deserve. The World Cup riders and teams need to be getting a solid percentage of the TV money or they dont race.

    Do not agree about CG at all... Warner was of course good as the main commentator but CG is not there playing Warner's role, it's Ric doing the main comments... Caluori also was not english native speaker and not more known than CG... Jackson was ok but also more known for commenting rather than actual mtb wins or titles... I think you're too hard on CG, gotta give some time to him to learn the ropes. Furthermore, DH is not just an English sport so commentators of mixed nationalities and languages I think it represent quite well what the sport of DH is today.

    • @mikeg2939
      @mikeg2939 Год назад +1

      That's a good point, perhaps if CG would be better if he was Warner's wingman rather than Ric's. What Warner would do was constantly ask questions to keep the talk rolling and make it more interesting, Ric started to do this more during the last round, so he's probably been taking some advise.

    The graphics are rubbish as well, and where the hell is all of the track information? Red Bull did a fantastic job comparing the tracks, this one is 5th for steepness, 2nd for technicality etc.
    Agreed with the commentary, I love Cedric but he's just not quite right. Ric has done a fantastic job though to be fair, he's very enthusiastic and knows what he's talking about.
