    Literally my ONLY complaint about my trip to Dyfi and Mach was finding somewhere to stop and to eat on the first evening.
    Turned up the first night (a Friday about 9pm) after a long drive from Newcastle and ended up having to just get stuff from the supermarket at the end of the High Street.
    Other than that, literally everyone we met, spoke to or did anything with was super stoked to have people coming to the area and spending money.
    Stopped at the Centre for Alternative Energy - not specifically for bikers but they couldn't of been more welcoming, found somewhere secure for our bikes and even let us use the shed to do some maintenance.
    A vast difference to some places I've ridden where riders are looked down on and seen as a necessary evil.

    Power to the people! It's a bit wanky but it's the workers owning the means of production. Rare these days that you can turn passion and a calling for something into something positive for others.
    The fear and respect for what they've done is so true

    I live just outside Mach and honestly I want the athertons to be given the rains and be in charge of trail planning of all the trail centres in North Wales and make it like the welsh Bentonville

      Are some of the old school bike parks in mid Wales struggling to stay open?
      It would be a real shame if so or is it just a part of the sport evolving into the next chapter i wonder.

    • @jeremyatkinson4976
      @jeremyatkinson4976 6 месяцев назад

      I think there's a real danger that the sport leaves newbies behind and thus struggle to replenish itself. That's why places like Nant yr Arian are so important. Folks can get a real sense of achievement on entry level bikes, that don't cost shedloads..@@marks-0-0

    Interesting to hear the Athertons would welcome more bike parks in the area. Would a traditional ski lift help put the area on the map as a destination, and what would one cost? Are there cheaper alternatives to chairlifts/gondolas/tbars?

    • @jeffminnich3291
      @jeffminnich3291 6 месяцев назад +2

      I do a lot of lift access riding and some shuttle places too. Lifts are typically much faster to get more runs in (some places have real slow lifts). Shuttles are there then gone, if you miss it, you have to wait a long time but you can run shuttles in a million more locations much easier than building a lift. One thing about shuttles is when you have all those really stoked/pumped people together on a shuttle, the energy in the air is crazy. Everyone is amped and taking and just enjoying it all. Shuttles have something that chairlifts cannot attain.

    • @nikht0
      @nikht0 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@jeffminnich3291 True, but many people are drawn to the mountains for the solitude and the views on the ride up, and being stuffed in a van with a bunch of other people yacking it up for 75% of the day could put a damper on that. I was a downhill ski racer and got plenty of social time in the ride to the hill and in the lodge. So I didn't need my ear talked off on the lift as well. ;)

    • @daniel_9500
      @daniel_9500 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@nikht0i get what you mean about the solitude, but for me the energy in the vans especially at Dyfi is electric. You get loads of info on trails on the way up, and for me as someone who rides solo a lot (i get weird days off mid week all the time) it’s a great way of meeting people and getting some riding buddies for the day. I’ve also been in a shuttle and Dan Atherton jumped in the same one, then told me to follow him down, and that was single handedly one of the greatest mtb experiences of my life. It would have never happened on a chair lift resort. Then again the speed and convenience of a chair is unbeatable

    • @Coolcmsc
      @Coolcmsc 6 месяцев назад

      There’s a few obvious issues. One that’s not talked about much is the difficulty, cost and huge delays in having the electricity plumbed in. It’s a big issue I the U.K. from car chargers to uplifts.

    • @nikht0
      @nikht0 6 месяцев назад

      @@Coolcmsc Interesting point. Here in Canada I've been to some ski resorts in very remote, rugged terrain but have no idea if it's more or less difficult getting the power in there. One advantage bike parks in the UK have is that they are more or less year-round, offsetting the cost. Also, from the sounds of it the Welsh government seem keen to encourage the economy.

      He's a great businessman, what's the problem with that? Just cos you may struggle to get your ass off the sofa doesn't mean everyone should be like you does it?
      Bernard genuinely wants to make things better for people who invest in his product etc, he's not looking to make a fast buck and do a flit.
      If that has the knock on effect of making him rich, then so be it. It's the payoff for investing his own risk, time, money and effort...... too many people nowadays want something for nothing and the world just doesn't work like that.
