Did You Know In MONSTER HOUSE…

- There is a moment that links to one of the movie’s main plot points revealed not long after. During the flashback scene that tells Nebbercracker and Constance’s backstory and explains Nebbercracker’s behavior to the local youths, we actually see that the poster at the circus for Constance’s performance calls her “the woman as big as a house”. Though the poster obviously emphasizes her body size, it is of course also a nod to the fact that Constance’s spirit has inhabited an entire house in the present day setting of the story.

As I a kid I didn’t like her but no I sympathize with her. She was made fun of for being overweight, basically called a monster and a freak show. Of course she got really mad and then in the end she died as a result of being ridiculed
She looked so sweet when she waved at the audience.
Well someone who's insanely overweight would be absolutely disgusting and morbid however it wasn't her fault she had a medical condition that caused it so imho yeah she didn't deserve to be treated like that over something she couldn't control.
@@drnobody1908 I mean ... maybe she had a condition.
She could have also just been an unhealthy slob with terrible eating habits and an unwillingless to excercise.
Not everyone who is fat has no choice.
@@metazoxan2 I'm aware of that but in this movie I believe it's confirmed to be a condition.
Also Constence and Nebblecracker seemed to be from a timeline were it was normalized to make fun of people for having a deformity or disability or is overweight.
Can you imagine the level of rage in a person to be so angry they possess an entire house?
I honestly feel bad for Constance.
She spent a life of being trapped and made into a spectacle worth humiliation and when she FINALLY met someone who genuinely loved and cared about her feelings and freedom she only got to have that unconditional care and love for a very small window before she once again found herself the butt end of someone's joke and then consequently found herself very much trapped, confined, and made the neighborhood spectacle.
@Alphagon & Omegarius yes. She was an angry spirit that suffered from assholes hurting her...she finally got to head into the afterlife...and meet new friends...a possible new family.
Yea she didn’t like or trust anyone besides the love of her life. Being a freak show in a circus definitely wouldn’t do my mental health any Justice either. It would have me feeling guarded and cold asf toward ppl.
@@FlyyGirl1000 true. I fucking hate people anyway. Heck poor woman was probably bullied on social media to...AND around others. Her weight isn't something to laugh at...mental health isn't something to laugh at either. This movie proves that.
@@Silver_wind_1987_ Actually Constance would have died long before social media was a thing. You still make a very good point, though.
Despite everything, that old man deserved better, honestly, I get people are all salty about old people being all "get off mah lawn!" But even if his house wasn't haunted by his angry wife, he may have still been mourning and just didn't want any kids to remind him of what happened.
He did get a redemption thi
I always felt he was trying to keep kids off his property because he knew his wife still hated children and was now dangerous to them having possessed the house. At the end I thought”Oh he kept kids away to protect them. But didn’t tell anyone about his house because they’d think he’s crazy and because he still loved his wife.
@@AllenTheAnimator004 It wasn't even redemption, he was a good guy from the start. He acted all cruel so kids wouldn't want to pay him a visit and risk their lives in the process. The difference between the beginning and end of the movie was just the facade finally being able to fall. He finally didn't feel like he had to be alone for the safety of others.
Some old people are just dicks but this dude had a reason for being upset. For the safety of others and his grief.
I dont think the movie intended to portray him as evil. Him and Constance are more of a tragedy thrust into the position of a horror "threat."
Constance didn't deserve to die
She didn’t deserve to die. But when she did. She deserved to move one
She was just traumatized and scared after being abused for her whole adult life.
Ok🤓
She really didn't, that's what's always haunted me about the movie.
This was a vunerable adult held captive and harassed for most of her life, I dont blame her for getting easily irritated.
Hell if she had been alive during modern day she could have gotten better psychological and emotional support.

As a kid, and even now, I felt so freaking BAD for constance.
she has been called a monster, a freak, and used for profit her ENTIRE life. All those years of being ogled at and taunted, it's no wonder her temper was so terrible.
Then Mr. Nevercracker comes along, and falls in love with her. And he openly says that to her, that she was beautiful to him. I just can't imagine that Not being the first time anyone has called her that because of her reaction.
Then he takes her away, and promises her a home, love, and a life like any other person, where she and him can be together and live happily away from judgement. That seems to be all she ever wanted.
Then those boys came along and egged their barely built home. Now think about it.
The home was literally wood sticks, a staircase, and no roof. It wasn't anything special by far, not structurally sound at all. But she threw a temper tantrum over it.
But it WASNT a temper tantrum. Honestly, it could be considered noble, considering this was an almost completely trauma induced reaction. I don't remember the quote exactly, but I KNOW she says something along the lines of, "they are ATTACKING OUR HOUSE".
She's not selfish, I'll tell you that right now. She's protective.
She felt her home and her husband were threatened by these kids. The kids targeted the home exactly how she was targeted in the circus, so no doubt it was like ptsd for her, thus the strong reaction.
She's not evil, she's hurt.
Every scene we see her with her husband, she either is looking at him with love in her eyes and a smile, or protecting him from what she thinks is danger. He was nothing but loving and kind to her, and she seemed to reciprocate that in the small about ofbscreentime we get of her alive. But even in death, as shown when Mr. Nevercracker is interacting with the house, we see her and him looking at eachother with tender care.
This scene in the video is also quite symbolic. A house is a common target for egging, right? She had food thrown at her all her life as an insult. A house protects the people inside it, yes? She died protecting her husband from what she thought was danger. Even the way the house was killed in the end of the movie is similar to the way constance was killed.
Constance wasn't selfish. Constance wasn't evil.
She was protective and hurt, and she's only been loved by one person in her whole life, and afterlife. All through the movie, she's done nothing but protect the one person who's ever loved her truly. The one who's been kind and true. In the end, that's when her rage takes over and she does chase her husband down with the kids, but that's because she felt betrayed. And I can't blame her much, he's enabled this behavior ever since her death, and it's never been properly corrected and she never got the help she needed.
Constance is a truly tragic character, I believe, and while I'm happy she's in a better place now, I'm so sad every time I watch this movie that she was turned into a monster. One thing I do appreciate, is that the last thing we see is not a broken home, or a dead monstrosity.
We see her ghost, her TRUE self, smiling and sharing one last touch with the one person she's ever loved, and felt loved by.
And we see the good and sensitive part of Nevercracker that was there a long time ago. The man who was caring and heartfelt and sweet, the man who he was before his wife's death caused him to see others in a darker light.
They both deserved better. This movie is so much deeper than what's there, and I'm glad people are remembering it
Edit: AND SHE WAS LEGALLY OBLIGATED TO WARD OFF DAMAGERS AND TRESPASSERS ON THEIR PROPERTY, FELT LIKE IT HAD TO BE SAID
TRUER WORDS HAVE NEVER BEEN SAID.

Wait that Film exists, I thought I just had a nightmare
Good film as well
I thought I was the only one
I had a nightmare about this
At first i also thought it was a nightmare but i also Remember finding it and re-watching it as a teen
I had a nightmare about it when I first watched it when I was 2. I never knew it was real until I watched it again
Another foreshadow is when he gets a call from nebbercrackers house that shadow hand that's in his dream has chubby hands
Another one is The whole joke about Jenny mentioning the house's uvula chandelier, with Chowder mishearing it and claiming the house is female.
I didn't know either of those things! Time to rewatch it :D
I noticed the chubby hand before this and was happy about it.
That film was my first introduction to the idea that even an antagonist could be someone hurt, unhappy, & trying their best despite a bad situation.
The fact that the conflict really wasn’t anyone’s ‘fault’, that all the major characters were acting morally according to what they knew & believed, was kind of an eye-opener for tiny me.
for me The House is up there as one of my favourite tragic villains along with Jestro, Mikan Tsumiki, Vulture (Homecoming) and Mera Salamin
so true! its like a modern tragedy, made for kids even

More than Coraline?
@@ray_floof_bloodblade4114 I wasn't allowed to watch it lol
The flash back scene always made me cry, even now 😢
The manner of Constance’s death has always made me raise an eyebrow at this movie. It’s far from being the only kids movie to incorporate death in some way, but death via being buried alive seems a bit much.
I mean, Scar was killed via the Hyenas eating him alive, Clayton accidentslly hung himself, Frollo fell into molten metal, and Facilier was dragged to Hell.
Judging from how deep the hole is, I think she died before getting buried. Which might be slightly better then suffocated by cement.
more like drowning to death, all that liquid concrete she inhaled threw mouth and noise while it was still pouring than again the fall could have killed her too, my folks watched a lot of CSI in murder documentary style TV shows around time this movie came
its not entirely implausible. she could’ve also died from falling from a height but the concrete would’ve suffocated her either way or gotten in her lungs and would’ve killed her from the inside
@@faywilson2495 liquid concrete is just as heavy as the finished product. She fell, had heavy liquid concrete fall onto her, and it suffocated her too if she wasn’t already dead. Triple whammy
I remember seeing this movie when I was a kid and crying at their backstory. I also remember my mom a year later when I saw it on the red box saying that we weren't going to get it and I begged her to and she said it was too scary and I told her I had already seen it and explained the plot line and she finally realized there was another movie and I still don't know the movie she was thinking of but yeah. And no I don't think she got the movie still.
i wonder if she was thinking of amityville horror
This was the most tragic love story I got to see as a child, I cried so much when those bullies attacked her and her husband just trying to break through the despair of his wife and to top it all out the horrible fate she had to go through 😣
What's more sad is ever since she died he had to act like a jerk towards everyone who comes near his house when in fact he was acting that way to protect them because he knew her spirit would attack anyone who came near. And the other fact he had dynamite from his time in the military, he knew he wouldn't be around to stop her so he also planned on taking his life with his wife with him.
On the dvd menu for this, when you hit play the carpet/tongue shot out at you and dragged you in. Little child me (forgot how old i was at the time) would press play and immediately dive behind a corner or blanket for "safety". I still do it at 20
oh boy... tho i can't say if the movie was scary, since i watched only a few mins, i do remember how much that menu thing scared me >_
You just unlocked a memory for me...I completely forgot I watched it on DVD until I read this
YESSSSS OMG 😩😩😩
This movie never scared me... I was little back then and don't understand what fear is... Until Scary Maze Game ruined my fearless life
OMG YEAH I REMEMBER THAT 😭😭
I always felt so bad for this woman.😢
I know I'm late but this movie scared me into being nicer as a kid. Plus i was always so confused when i was little when i saw her being abused in her back-story.
This movie really made me think man eating houses were gonna be a much bigger problem as a kid.
If they ever make a remake of this movie, which I highly doubt, I want to see more flashbacks of Nebbercracker and Constance being together. They're a really sweet couple and it's really bittersweet how things ended.
This movie is underrated. Solid animated films and surprisingly nuanced for a children's movie. The design of the house in its monster form is so well crafted and effective. The animating is even more creative. The way the teeth form out of snapped planks, the way the house reassembles herself in such detailed and believable ways. A great deal of effort and passion must have gone into this.
This movie did not deserve the hate it got, this made my childhood and it is a really good movie
Yup true and it's deserve better.
This film is a masterpiece
Yup true and that's why this is my favorite movie since I was a kid.
Here’s some Fun facts about the movie:
-the director had a wish list of actors he wanted in the movie and all of them said yes
-the poster for Constance at the freak show calls her “the woman as big as a house”
- the hand in the nightmare sequence is actually Constance’s and judging by it’s bulky look
-Mr. Nebbercracker was actually driving the ambulance suggesting he broke out of the hospital to stop Constance before it’s too late
I always found her death disturbing, imagine falling from a high place and then pounds of cement falling over you (considering it must be very heavy) and you are unable to move or scream, because you are choking on some heavy ass shit, or imagine she survived, but because there wasn't much the docs could do, she later died of dehydration
i dont think she could have survived though, the fall would have instantly killed her
Her skeleton is in the same place where she died though
Hell she would’ve suffocated long before being dehydrated
Imagine this was a live action movie by blumhouse. That would be terrifying tbh in a good way
@Alphagon & Omegarius stop motion ??
@Alphagon & Omegarius Caroline?
@Alphagon & Omegarius nah when you said stop motion I instantly thought of that move
@alphagonomegarius5124 yeah very true
Monster House was such a classic to me. I watched it over a hundred times. I consider it better than 90% of current horror movies.
Yup true.
I got this weird thing where "Adult" horror movies don't even phase me, but "kid's" horror takes a while for me to shake off.
I mean I only RECENTLY cured my irrational fear of the FNAF characters, and I turned 20 in June.
This and Coraline is one such thing, something about her death freaked me out. IDK, just the thought that if the fall didn't kill her, she was probably still quite conscious for... a long damn time.
To say nothing about how the kids actually SEE the body.
I am a Horror Fan. Autopsy of Jane Doe, Conjuring, Deliver us from Evil, The Exorcist etc all no problem but Monster House and Coraline? It’s absolutely terrifying
I guess because they don’t rely on the same old tropes (sometimes) and have to get a little more creative. There’s a dark sort of whimsy to them that can make them more horrific.
I remember my ticket stub said Monster Ho when I saw this in theaters
lol
“Monster Ho” 😂
LMFAOOO
Bahahahahaha 😂
When I was young, I saw this as a spooky kids movie and villainized Constance because she was the big scary house trying to eat the kids and their toys. Watching the movie as an adult I see it as a sad love story. I can’t help but empathize with Constance as well as Nebbercracker. He pretty much lost the love of his life two times within his lifetime and she was relentlessly dehumanized for her size.
I loved the film so much, hate that they removed the death scene and corpse scene on Netflix streaming. Which removes the explanation to why the house is alive
That might just be for your area cause here in ireland we get all of it
The poster is also a reference to “the bigger the figure” by Lois Prima. The whole movie is basically that song
I haven't watched monster house in YEARS. The horror part scarred me for life as a kid, but back then I still felt bad for Constance because she really had it rough and people were mean to her. But STILL THAT WHOLE EXPERIENCE WAS SCARY AS HELL
Constance still scares the heck outta me, I used to watch Monster house Every day when I was Little and she was the character that scared me the most-
When i sas a kid no movie scared me like this one it was a gem of time
Can we talk about how traumatising this scene was like holy shit-

It made me so happy seeing her feeling love and kindness for the first time, I loved this couple
Theres also a song old song about a guy who loves a woman as big as house

Which os how he treats her too :)
Anybody else just got the movie laying around in your house😂
Yes
I was always confused when i saw Constance and Nebbercrackers’ past until now. She never deserved to die and he never deserved to live out his life in constant fear of his wife killing children at any moment in time, especially when it’s Halloween.
Constance just wanted to live a happy life and be loved 😭
Yup true and I felt bad for her and him too.
I felt really sorry for her as a kid, still do. She didn’t deserve to die and she didn’t deserve to be made fun of 💔
This is so heartbreaking and I didn’t even watch this as a kid. This is sad, and this is the reality of everyone who is unattractive, and the reality of fictional characters (female mostly) in animation and fiction
I Feel so bad for Constance's death she was so nice, they were truly in love only for those kids to accidentally kill her, I wish they would get a happy ending where she didnt die

I have so much respect for Nebbercracker. This man was raised right. 💯

Constance also?
Ah yes, this underrated gem of a Halloween Movie.
Monster House was like my childhood movie and my favorite. It still is and no other movie can beat it.
Those kids had the nerve to throw eggs at Constance, picking on her, made my blood boil
The story of Constance and Mr. Nebbercracker is so heartbreaking. This man would've rather be hated than let others be hurt. Perhaps, the greatest sorrows in life are the ones we can't speak on. Constance's weight was something that tormented her in life and after life.
this is my childhood horror movie. I will never forget this movie.
Same me too.
The amount of nostalgia omg, i never knew this movie actually existed. I thought it was just a fever dream
This show terrified me as a kid knowing constance got buried in concrete
Just watched it yesterday. Underrated gem.
I wish this movie got a sequel
When I was little and saw her backstory Ngl it made me bawl
It's really sad how Constance didn't have a chance to be happy because she was public enemy number one. She died angry and sad.
I remember watching that movie while my cottage was being built. It traumatized me a little.
Wait you're telling me that the story he is telling about Constance being the house makes a reference to Constance being the house? NO WAY!
When I was younger, I didn't pay a lot of attention to the flashback and thought that Constance was some grumpy old lady who died being angry at a little prank... flashforward now I feel TERRIBLE FOR HER. She didn't deserve to be ridiculed, and she didn't deserve to die. I actually like the concept of someone HUMANLY and RIGHTFULLY angry enough to take control of a whole house. It's better than the typical "Oh house is just angry because *oooo spooky evil ghoooost*" with no real reason.
I felt bad for her as a kid, and still do. This show was scary, yes, but I also felt terrible for what happened to her. And felt for the man she was with.
You gotta love the little details and references
"Did you know? If you wa5ch a move the story will show itself?:
I don't think she inhabited the house as a spirit because she was angry, I think she stayed because she was deeply in love and didn't want to leave her husband of such a short time alone. The movie is pretty scary and funny, but there's a good amount of tragic romance too.
Monster House is a hidden gem, my friends or people my age barely know about it 💀
Fun fact, I grew up in a village next to the town that had the actual house this movie was based on
Funfact: Kathleen Turner, The woman who voiced Constance, Also voiced Jessica Rabbit from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" Complete opposites!
I think we’ve all felt bad for Constance at least once...besides the fact that she tried to kill kids.(as a house.)
that movie scared the crap out of me when i was a kid

As a person who is chubby IRL, I feel for her.
She deserves better, because obesity is no laughing matter.
This backstory made me cry when I was younger.for me this is the very Sades back story😭😭😭😭
it also seems like a refference to louis prima's "the bigger the figure" where the first lyric is "i've got a woman as big as a house, yes sir"
