I have a habit of running my fingers through my scalp and pick up white/yellow dots like grains of sand from the roots of the pores. Is this because of too much oil production ?
Oh no. I have the same thing. And I have made all of these mistakes except for the laser. I thought mine was just Seb Derm (fungus) but I have recently noticed what I believe is demodex in my eyelashes. How would I know if that's on my scalp? I'm pretty certain I have scale, too, the worst being from the bottom of my crown to the nape of my neck. I've been to several derms and none seem that concerned but I am losing hair so quickly in the last few weeks and can't seem to translate the urgency of this to them. To make matters worse I now know I had allergic contact dermatitis at a salon back in August where I lost a lot of hair and the typical shampoos and treatments for these things have allergic ingredients in them for me. I am currently having to wash my hair every other time with water because I am reacting to what used to be my safe shampoo/conditioner. I really need help and am at a loss. Thank you @@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
I have the exact same issue! It feels like sand. Tiny white/ light yellow grains. I actually suspect overproduction of sebum or demodex. I’m yet to see a dermatologist myself
Dr. Gaunitz, can I apply hair oil, i.e. coconut oil, on my hair only and not on my scalp and leave it till the next wash? Apply from mid length to the ends of the hair, not touching the hair near the scalp. I have frizzy hair and the oil helps keep it manageable. Thank you in advance for your reply.
your comments on not washing your hair frequently are interesting. I started losing a bit of hair and then I got tape in extensions and washed my hair once every 5 to 7 days. No hair came out when I removed them but I had horrible thinning of my hair (mostly on top where I had no extensions) weeks later. So many people online and hair symtylists tell you to wash your hair less and what you said about bacteria makes so much more sense from my experience.
Any information about lichen planopilaris was told I have also was given scalp injections that seemed to make worse? I never had scalp biopsy and I almost feel like I've had more inflammation on hydroxychloroquine and after injection.

Im a 19 year old who's now suffering from severe hair loss after moving to Dubai in July, I was living in South Africa previously. I had enough hair on my head for 5 people but now it's super thin and my hairline is so far pushed back that I feel ashamed just walking around in public. To top it off I can visibly see patches of even thinner hair along my hairline further reminding me that I'll probably be bald in a year or two. With my newly found and extreme lack of self confidence I caved and went to some dermatologist around 2 ago and paid nearly $2k along with an additional 100 bucks on hair products that they convinced me to buy. This left me financially strained and rather depressed as after the treatment (Its allegedly called G-cell treatment accompanied by 2 followup PRP sessions and I have only gone fore 1 of the PRP sessions) seemed to have little to no effect on my hair loss or even worsened as every time I wash my hair I see clumps of hair on my hands. Now I'm freaking out after watching this because it seems that exactly what was recommended for us not to do is what I did. Could anyone tell me if I inadvertently screwed myself?
I’m really sorry to hear about your experience-hair loss is incredibly challenging, especially when it impacts your confidence so much. Let’s break down what might be happening and some steps you can take to regain control over your situation. ### 1. **Environmental and Water Changes** - Moving from South Africa to Dubai means different water quality, climate, and air, which can impact hair health. Dubai’s water often contains high levels of minerals (hard water), which can lead to buildup on the scalp, dryness, and breakage. This can sometimes mimic hair loss or make it worse. - Try using a clarifying shampoo once a week to remove mineral buildup and see if that helps reduce the hair shedding. A shower filter that softens the water may also make a difference. ### 2. **Stress-Induced Hair Loss (Telogen Effluvium)** - Big changes, like moving to a new country, combined with the stress of losing hair, can sometimes trigger *telogen effluvium*. This type of hair loss usually shows up 2-3 months after a significant stressor, and it causes a noticeable shed that can feel alarming. The good news is that telogen effluvium is often temporary, but it may take a few months for hair to grow back. ### 3. **G-Cell and PRP Treatments** - These treatments can sometimes cause an initial shed as the scalp and follicles adjust. However, PRP is generally well-tolerated and safe. If you’ve only had one PRP session so far, it might not have been enough to see results yet, as PRP often requires a series of treatments over a few months for full effect. - If the G-Cell and PRP didn’t give you immediate results, it doesn’t mean they won’t help. These treatments often take time to show improvement, especially if there’s underlying stress or environmental factors contributing to the shedding. ### 4. **Affordable Steps Moving Forward** - **Support Your Scalp**: Stick with a gentle shampoo and conditioner, and avoid harsh styling products. Look for hair growth products with ingredients like rosemary oil or caffeine, which may support healthier hair over time. - **Diet and Hydration**: Make sure you’re getting enough protein, B vitamins, and iron. Hydration is also essential in dry climates. - **Minimize Heat and Chemical Styling**: Allow your scalp to “breathe” without additional strain from heat tools or harsh styling products. ### 5. **Consider Following Through with PRP or Exploring Alternatives** - If you’re feeling financially strained, it’s okay to take a break from high-cost treatments. Instead, you could focus on consistent, supportive scalp care, healthy diet habits, and stress management to help reduce additional shedding. - Once you’re ready, it may be worth finishing the PRP sessions if you notice any improvement after a few months. If not, other options include over-the-counter products or treatments like low-level laser therapy (LLLT) devices, which can be effective and more affordable long-term. ### Final Thoughts You haven’t “screwed yourself” at all-your body is just reacting to a lot of recent changes. Hair loss journeys are tough, and improvement takes time, but with a consistent, gentle approach, you’re likely to see positive changes in the coming months. I cannot thank you enough for this video! I have been roped in to so many hair oils to "grow hair"...when I started losing my hair about 4 yrs ago, I would have bought ANYTHING online that claimed to grow hair & stop shedding. So thank you for this video! I trust your suggestions and knowledge!

I am a female. I had occipital scalp biopsy in 2014 and 2022 in a dermatology office. Both results were the same: androgenetic alopecia. I had tried spironolactone but had an allergic reaction to it. If I want to try one of your products, which one, in your expertise opinion, is the best for me that will stop the hair loss and regrow them? Thank you.
There is a link the bio for a consult. I take on the toughest cases. It is most likely ferritin, D3, or zinc issues. The biopsys usually say AGA when there is no scarring or areata
@@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist Thanks for your early reply. The dermatologist punched a small piece of skin from the occipital area of my head. The hair loss is all over, but the occipital area lost more.
Any opinion on mixing oils, like if I did pumpkin + castor oil as carriers and then a few drops of rosemary and leave that in for 45 minutes before washing out?
I have been using the below: N+ Onion Shampoo every 24 hours Minoxidl 5% twice a day Derma Stamp once a week Rosemary Oil Rosemary Water Vitamin D Biotin Supplement I started this routine in February and so far I am being consistent. Is this good enough or is it too much? Maybe results will show after a couple of months. Can someone recommend me a natural DHT blocker or a one I can buy from a pharmacy?
The rosemary oil is clogging your pores, plus it interferes with the absorption of the minoxidil. Maybe just add it to your shampoo, plus only wash your hair twice a week, and DEFINITELY get on Finastride ASAP. Can I ask what the onion shampoo is?
@@Herbie11 I wash everyday cause of the dandruff. Otherwise I really wouldn't do it. I just started using nizoral shampoo yesterday. Hopefully it gets better.
Hey doc love your videos and find them super helpful. However, I was wondering that if you apply rosemary oil overnight and wash the hair immediately when one wakes up is fine. Or should I try waking up earlier to apply the oil leave it in for the 45 minutes then wash it out?
That is a great question... realistically both. you have to control the disease because the disease itself will actually cause hair loss. Plus to recover from a inflamed scalp that is most likely exacerbating male pattern or female pattern loss you will most likely require minoxidil.
Thaks for the video. Good info. What do you think about red light therapy with just LED for hair loss? I don't use laser cap, just a big LED panel for whole body red light therapy. 165 mW/cm2 at 15 cm distance (solar meter), 90 mW/cm2 at 15 cm distance (spectrometer). Could this be too much? Panel is big but only a few LEDs are direct when lying in front of the panel.
I use my vibrating eye mask on the top of my scalp. I feel like it will help stimulate more blood flow. Sometimes, my scalp becomes slightly tickly and tingly while using. Does that mean blood flow and healthy for my scalp? Btw, I'm using your shampoo, conditioner, pills and am seeing an improvement. Big improvement with hair loss. Now I'm waiting for growth. I just started the foligrowth. I'm shocked that there is actually a product that works!
I did #2 about 9 years ago before any hair shedding (and never experienced it before hand) and the next day it completely changed my hair texture(from super strong and thick to, weak and flinsy), and I experienced a severe case of Seb Derm on my scalp and started shedding hair. My whole scalp was covered with a waxy substance that smelled. Could that be an auto immune condition or hormonal imbalance? Also, I was on the Keto diet during that time.
Please help I’m 46 year old female, I have very dry and tight scalp and occasionally itchy scalp. I had jaundice/hepatitis a (yellowish skin) when I was about 13, at the same time I also developed a skin condition called nevoid hypermelanosis along blaschko lines (mine is only a big patch of hyperpigmentation on my back- Iv tried many creams and lasers in the past but it won’t budge, from my research it’s an immune condition). I also have athletes foot for the past 20yrs which has spread to my whole foot and nails. I don’t have any allergies or gut issues. Iv done your online test and my hair comes out from top, sides and back. I have trauma from SA and I suffer from depression. I have 3 kids and my 1 daughter has coeliac disease. I don’t know if any of this extra information matters but just thought I’d add it in. What is the cure for me? I’m in the UK. PLEASE HELP
Can you please make a video on hair miniaturization taking place all over the scalp? Don’t believe it to be a DHT issue, however I do have a vitamin d deficiency.
Hi doctor i would really appreciate a reply, i am 18 with mpb, I've been taking 270mg oral saw palmetto and have been using it for over a week and a half, i started noticing increased shedding after the very first use. Is it normal and i should stick to it or is it making it worse?
Saw Palmetto is suppose to block DHT I wouldn’t think it’s causing hair loss. But, taking Nutrafol hair growth vitamins and 2% minoxidil drops for the scalp would not hurt.
@@WilliamGaunitzTrichologistcan I put another serum after minoxidil or would it affect it? I thought you need to wait 4 hours, between minoxidil and another serum
Hey Dr. Please tell me how i can deal with my telogen effluvium, it's more then 11 months and it's not stopping . I am taking D3 4000iu , B complex And a multivitamin for hair . What should I do
__ADVISE REQUIRED __ Hi doctor,I am having just some considerable space between follicles and many times I see that follicles have disappeared from there place. My age is about 15 yrs. Also I feel like shedding much more fine and small hair.
I'm so scared, my hair is thinning with SPEEEED!!! Ive bought 10% Minoxidil, and only using it for 3 days now, twice a day.... but after seeing that I will have to use it forever, I don't know what to expect... and is 10% to strong? Was it a bad decision to start using it and should I rather just stop now while I can? And try something else. I have severe low Iron and are treatise that but dunno if that the cause. I feel like Im going to loose all my hair 🥺🥺
I started with 2,5% 6 years ago and I have hair growth in my face, 10% is too strong, even 5% is for women. Its not bad having single hair in my face, but with higher doses it could be worse. You should go to test your blood levels for: Ferritin(more important than iron), folat, vitamin b12, vitamin d, vitamin E, vitamin b6, Magnesium, zinc, copper, selenium, iodine. All of them are important and should be high. Many Amino acids are very important too. Take lysin, ornithin, arginine, methionine, cysteine, cystin, glycin. Maybe don't start with minoxidil, it is only for androgenetic alopecia. Your hairloss seems to be from Deficiencies
I used oral minoxidil 0.25 mg for a little over 3 months will it it be pretty bad if I stop? I didn’t really have hair loss just wanted to get thickets hair
Yes I got it from a dermatologist she wanted to start out low and increase the dose incrementally but all it’s done is shed my hair on my head and give me more body hair?
Hii doctor i am 16 and suffering from seborrhoeic Dermatitis since birth i have tried many thing changed many doctors taken many treatment i really need your help 😭
Hi respected dr. I used minoxidil 5 months ago for a month and then just skipped to use for 1 week and i got high bp issue with the missed dose of minoxidil. So again my hair started falling. Now i got my first prp session 3 weeks ago and my dermatologist recommended to use procapil but i am expressing alot of hair shedding...up till now. Can i use minoxidil inplace of procapil. Might my way of using minoxidil was not right because it should be stopped using in a tappered way???
Yes, it sounds like you need to go back on minoxidil. If you are still trying to regrow hair, get back on minoxidil and make sure all of the underlying reasons for the hair loss have been resolved so that you get the best results from the PRP and minoxidil. I have a video on how to wean off minoxidil once you are ready to do that on 12 months from now. ruclips.net/video/bfWqMDeix0c/видео.html
what if i don't know the cause for my hairloss? my doctors can't figure it out either!! i think its just high levels of stress (because i had thinning on my partition line) so with this type of hairloss, can i eventually stop using minoxidil? because i feel its not genetic. please please tell me
You should be seeing a dermatologist..not just your regular doctor. What the dermatologist should be doing first before anything is doing a punch biopsy which in turn will determine what type of hair loss you’re dealing with and they’ll be able to properly treat it
Was that the Hairmax? I have the Hairmax lazer I bought at QVC, the one that combs through the hair- scalp. Also, what about castor oil on the scalp? Thank u so much. Jana - Texas. Love your videos
Thank you, Jana, for your kind words and for bringing up your questions! Regarding the HairMax laser device you mentioned, it's indeed one of the various tools that can be employed in the battle against hair loss, using low-level laser therapy to potentially stimulate hair growth. It's essential, however, to have realistic expectations and understand that results can vary from person to person. As for castor oil, it's known for its potential to improve scalp health due to its rich nutritional content and anti-inflammatory properties. However, as mentioned in our video, it's crucial not to leave oils on the scalp overnight, including castor oil, to avoid creating an environment conducive to yeast, bacteria, or the Demodex parasite, which could exacerbate hair loss. Instead, applying it for a short duration, like 45 minutes, a few times a week, could be beneficial without the adverse effects. We're thrilled you love our videos, and if you have more questions or need personalized advice, feel free to reach out! Melissa Fox (Customer Service) ➡️Reach out to us at www.advancedtrichology.com/
NOW IM SO CONFUSED... I BOUGHT THIS DILUTED ROSEMARY OIL FROM MIELE AND THEY ADVISE THAT ITS OK TO LEAVE THE OIL OVERNIGHT ON SCALP... MAX 8 HOURS.. AND IVE BEEN DOING THIS EVERY NIGHT FOR A MONTH NOW..
Ok, I just bought a 650nm LLLT clinic laser with 262 laser diodes for treating hair loss in my salon with my certification. I should never use more than 100 diodes? Does it matter if the light is pulsed or not? Did I get scammed again?
It sounds like you're committed to offering effective treatments for hair loss in your salon, which is great. Let's break down your concerns: 1. **Using More Than 100 Diodes**: The number of diodes used in Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) devices can vary. Generally, more diodes can cover a larger area of the scalp, potentially making the treatment more effective. There's no strict rule against using more than 100 diodes; it depends on the design and purpose of the device. High-quality LLLT devices often use multiple diodes to ensure even coverage, so your device with 262 diodes isn't necessarily a bad thing. 2. **Pulsed vs. Continuous Light**: Pulsed and continuous light both have their benefits. Pulsed light can reduce the risk of overheating and may be better for sensitive skin, while continuous light provides a consistent treatment. Both methods can be effective for hair loss, so whether your device uses pulsed or continuous light should align with the treatment goals you have for your clients. 3. **Did You Get Scammed?**: Based on the information provided, it doesn't seem like you were scammed, especially if the device is from a reputable manufacturer and meets industry standards. However, it’s crucial to verify that the device is FDA-cleared (or approved by the relevant authority in your country) for treating hair loss and that it’s backed by clinical research. Using a device with a large number of diodes, like yours, can be beneficial for providing comprehensive coverage, but make sure to follow the manufacturer's guidelines on usage to ensure safety and efficacy. ➡️Reach out to us at www.advancedtrichology.com/

Hi doc iam an 18yr old who doesn’t have a severe hair loss but i do shed hair sometimes which makes me uncomfortable … i got an oily and thin hair so would you recommend me using non-drug store volume shampoo everyday with conditioner
I’m still experiencing a bunch of Hair Loss for some reason, even though I take Spironolactone, Dutasteride, Vitamin D3, and use a laser comb 2x a week or so. No idea what else can treat this situation
What do you mean don't stop using Minoxidil? What if it was the wrong choice? what if it causes severe side effects? I wish you were more clear in differentiating people using Minoxidil while ON finasteride and people using Minoxidil while NOT on finasteride.
I totally understand your concern-thank you for bringing this up! When people say “don’t stop using Minoxidil,” it’s because **Minoxidil** works by stimulating blood flow to the hair follicles, promoting growth. If you stop using it, any hair growth you’ve gained may be lost because Minoxidil doesn’t address the root cause of hair loss (like hormones or genetics). That’s why consistency is key. 😊 However, if you’re experiencing **severe side effects** or feel Minoxidil isn’t right for you, definitely stop using it and talk to a healthcare provider. Your safety comes first! As for the **Finasteride** factor, here's the breakdown: - If you’re using Minoxidil **with Finasteride**: Finasteride works by blocking DHT (a hormone that causes hair loss), while Minoxidil boosts hair growth. Together, they tackle both the cause (DHT) and the symptom (thinning hair). If you stop Minoxidil but stay on Finasteride, you might lose the extra growth from Minoxidil, but the DHT-blocking benefits of Finasteride will continue to help with hair loss. - If you’re using Minoxidil **without Finasteride**: Minoxidil can still help regrow hair, but it won’t prevent DHT from causing more hair loss. So, if you stop Minoxidil, you could lose progress and continue to experience thinning unless you address the DHT issue. Bottom line: If you’re having side effects or don’t think Minoxidil is working for you, it’s important to stop and consult with a professional. Each person responds differently, so finding the right balance of treatments (with or without Finasteride) is key. ➡️ Reach out to us at www.advancedtrichology.com/ if you need help exploring alternatives or understanding what works best for your situation!
there are advise and also supporting evidence that some successful hair regrowth individuals apply rosemary oil on their scalp overnight every single day... its getting confuse now becuase of this advise, to just only leave it on for 45minutes only??
You can mix rosemary oil with wattey liquids like water or aloe vera and leave it on even for days. But you shouldn't let fatty oils on your scalp longer than 45 minutes. Like argan or coconut oil. Because this fatty oils could clock the skin. Rosemary oil is not a fatty oil. Its a essential oil, it is chemically different

### 1. **Environmental and Water Changes**
- Moving from South Africa to Dubai means different water quality, climate, and air, which can impact hair health.
### 2. **Stress-Induced Hair Loss (Telogen Effluvium)**
- Big changes, like moving to a new country, combined with the stress of losing hair, can sometimes trigger *telogen effluvium*. This type of hair loss usually shows up 2-3 months after a significant stressor, and it causes a noticeable shed that can feel alarming. The good news is that telogen effluvium is often temporary, but it may take a few months for hair to grow back.
### 3. **G-Cell and PRP Treatments**
- These treatments can sometimes cause an initial shed as the scalp and follicles adjust.
### 4. **Affordable Steps Moving Forward**
- **Support Your Scalp**: Stick with a gentle shampoo and conditioner, and avoid harsh styling products.
### 5. **Consider Following Through with PRP or Exploring Alternatives**
- If you’re feeling financially strained, it’s okay to take a break from high-cost treatments.
### Final Thoughts
You haven’t “screwed yourself” at all-your body is just reacting to a lot of recent changes. Hair loss journeys are tough, and improvement takes time, but with a consistent, gentle approach, you’re likely to see positive changes in the coming months.

Thank you.

N+ Onion Shampoo every 24 hours
Minoxidl 5% twice a day
Derma Stamp once a week
Rosemary Oil
Rosemary Water
Vitamin D
Biotin Supplement
I started this routine in February and so far I am being consistent. Is this good enough or is it too much? Maybe results will show after a couple of months. Can someone recommend me a natural DHT blocker or a one I can buy from a pharmacy?
Just get it from the pharmacy, to many fakes out there
Yes you need a DHT Blocker in there somewhere most likely
The rosemary oil is clogging your pores, plus it interferes with the absorption of the minoxidil. Maybe just add it to your shampoo, plus only wash your hair twice a week, and DEFINITELY get on Finastride ASAP.

Would you recommend any hair growth brushes on Amazon that use light therapy?
Hey doc love your videos and find them super helpful. However, I was wondering that if you apply rosemary oil overnight and wash the hair immediately when one wakes up is fine. Or should I try waking up earlier to apply the oil leave it in for the 45 minutes then wash it out?
Can you make a video on natural hair treatments?
I like you brother, you are inspiring me , i love you. Thanks for you for keep us stronger. ❤
1) If someone is facing hair loss due to SebDerm, will controlling the disease promote hair growth in itself? 2) Or Do they need to use Minoxidil too?
That is a great question... realistically both. you have to control the disease because the disease itself will actually cause hair loss. Plus to recover from a inflamed scalp that is most likely exacerbating male pattern or female pattern loss you will most likely require minoxidil.
For #2 about the oil, should you wash it off with shampoo or without shampoo after the 45 minutes?
Hi, I'm pretty sure he said shampoo b/c it'll remove the oil so you don't sleep with it.
You can not wash oil off without shampoo, because oil is not water soluble, it repels water.
LED 's are about 10 times less powerful per diode. Based on the information you provided it may be OK
After how many days later we have to wash our hairs ? My hairs are falling to much I am 17 should wash daily or 1 day later or 2 days later

DOCTOR PLS HELP ME. I used rosemary oil for 3 months leaving it overnight. I've stopped now, how can I know if I took demodex?
I'm so scared, my hair is thinning with SPEEEED!!! Ive bought 10% Minoxidil, and only using it for 3 days now, twice a day.... but after seeing that I will have to use it forever, I don't know what to expect... and is 10% to strong? Was it a bad decision to start using it and should I rather just stop now while I can? And try something else. I have severe low Iron and are treatise that but dunno if that the cause. I feel like Im going to loose all my hair 🥺🥺
Why did you start with 10% minoxidil?
I started with 2,5% 6 years ago and I have hair growth in my face, 10% is too strong, even 5% is for women. Its not bad having single hair in my face, but with higher doses it could be worse.
You should go to test your blood levels for:
Ferritin(more important than iron), folat, vitamin b12, vitamin d, vitamin E, vitamin b6, Magnesium, zinc, copper, selenium, iodine.
All of them are important and should be high.
Many Amino acids are very important too.
Take lysin, ornithin, arginine, methionine, cysteine, cystin, glycin.
Maybe don't start with minoxidil, it is only for androgenetic alopecia.

Is the iRestore pro too strong? It has 82 laser diodes and 200 LEDs
That is on the edge but ok in my opinion. The irestore people really put thought into their lasers
Let's break down your concerns:

How rosemary oil? Studies have shown leaving it on hair overnight is safe and is even recommended?
No, this causes inflammation and dandruff buildup. I would recommend leaving it on for 1-3 hours.

However, if you’re experiencing **severe side effects** or feel Minoxidil isn’t right for you, definitely stop using it and talk to a healthcare provider. Your safety comes first!
As for the **Finasteride** factor, here's the breakdown:
- If you’re using Minoxidil **with Finasteride**: Finasteride works by blocking DHT (a hormone that causes hair loss), while Minoxidil boosts hair growth.
Each person responds differently, so finding the right balance of treatments (with or without Finasteride) is key.

there are advise and also supporting evidence that some successful hair regrowth individuals apply rosemary oil on their scalp overnight every single day... its getting confuse now becuase of this advise, to just only leave it on for 45minutes only??
You can mix rosemary oil with wattey liquids like water or aloe vera and leave it on even for days. But you shouldn't let fatty oils on your scalp longer than 45 minutes. Like argan or coconut oil. Because this fatty oils could clock the skin. Rosemary oil is not a fatty oil. Its a essential oil, it is chemically different
