One of the best compliments Ive ever received was a college professor telling me I reminded him of Louise Brooks, whom I didnt know of, but he encouraged me to look her up. It must have been the short dark bob I was wearing at the time. And needless to say, I looked up Louise Brooks and fell in love with her. 😊
First time I saw Louise Brooks, I was in awe. Read her biography. Lulu in Hollywood. She had a small part in The Canary murder case. Played a sweet girl but had a hard heart. Enjoyable. Saw her last interview. She was smart , witty and entertaining. Rest in peace, Louise Brooks Stay safe Greetings from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
My grandmother had a radio show in the 1920s and I have a picture of her at her microphone in a hairstyle that looked bobbed up front but was clearly long in back and tucked into a chignon. Later in life she did have short hair, but it's pretty clear to me that in the 20s the bobbed look was "in," whether or not you chose to follow through.
Louise Brooks made bobbed hair look chic and modern. I think she wore it better than most. Bobbed hair was a subject of a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald called Bernice Bobs her Hair. I think it looked great then and looks great now in 2021.
Yes how ever i wish woman would listen and trust there hair stylists more on what kind of bob is the most flattering on them womans face shapes and body types are inportant factors in choice in getting a bob not everyone looks flattering in a blunt cut bob texturing and layers and parting also its also good to factor in the weak side and the heavy side which is the stylist responsibility to know to remove weight and to add it
My grandmother used having one, in 1926. Then, she was quickly framed, by her husband's family, as "an easy lady"... No words about it...! This happened in Milan!...
I have a beautiful pic of my Grannie in 20's with flapper dress & curly hair Bob. Its fabulous. She was a lovely woman who dedicated her life to her family. I have the pic pride of place on my dresser. 💝
Many may not be aware in the 1920's the bob cut was actually called, "The Marcel". My grandmother who passed away at the age of 97 in 2005 told this to me when I commented on her photo which was taken at the age of 16. She clued me in as to the name of the bob cut as it was very fashionable for women and young ladies ...."The Marcel". I also have her wedding photo where she is wearing a 1920's flapper wedding dress quite stylish and cut short, white long gloves with an interesting 1920's wedding cap and veil the year was 1927. A far cry from the sleek long & slender designs of the 1930's with narrow shoulder straps which appeared more like satin evening gowns.
My grandmother had hair down to her feet. She wore it twisted up. She “bobbed” it and my grandfather threw a fit. She let it grow out and never cut it again. She said longer hair was easier to take care of.
Women in the 1920's also liked to wear ties and knickers with a boy's cap. It was the time of liberation, women were now out of the kitchen and out on the dance floor, divorce was more plentiful but it still made front page headlines. More and more women were seen in public smoking either cigarettes or slim cigars. Also some were known to use a few cuss words and have a strong opinion. And, of course make-up was in vogue wearing heavy, dark eye shadow, eye liner, and red lipstick with a powdered white face.
Addressing the part of the article where the woman who said it fils thicker and heavier since she bobbed it.It only appers thick and heavir because the stylist cut it blunt.. By that i mean hair is cut in layers of degress 180 is coming the hair straight up from the natrul groth lign which results wit shorter hair on top and longer hair on the bottom we call this the long layered cutt and cutting it 90 is cutting it staight from where it grows which result is in uniform layers 45 is a little bit under the natral growth line it stacks the hair and builds weight and 0 is bulnt cut no layers just blunt and weight the. Top of the hair is longer then the hair towards the nape are as you non hair stylists call the back of the neck.
Men have their counterpart to the lady's Bob Hair in the Pencil Moustache in rebel fashion to the thic moustaches like Walrus or Chevron. (Edit: You earn my subscribe!!)
Bobbed hair as the gateway-drug to a hirsute army of bald whaminz enacting a hostile takeover of barber shops across the nation, culminating in the death of romance, total anarchy and the complete breakdown of society as we know it, (naturally) ...is just _sending_ me, omg... 🤣
I have a certain predilection for bobbed hair ! A woman with a bob can usually have their way with me! Myrna Loy is a prime example of what's alluring to me. Even thought she's quite slender
Dude to have conversation of Bobbed hair and not even mention Louise Brooks or show a pic of her is sacrilegious. She was, is and will always be the queen of the bobbed hair flappers. I am prejudice but for my money Miss Brooks is the most beautiful actress of all time, when she is on the screen all eyes are on her and her bobbed hair.
@@The1920sChannel I realize she would not be in the article but she still should have be mentioned as the person that would make bobbed famous for years to come
I was pleased to discover Helene Chadwick in the video. Third from the left to right.

That’s awesome. She lived in my city at the end of her life. Rochester, NY. She was called the Girl with the Black Helmet
LuLu was one of the most beautiful women ever. Watch her movie Diary of a lost girl.
I found a photo of my grandmother with bobbed hair, and a fox stole. Wow, my grandmother was a beauty.

I love bobbed hair, been wearing it since the 80's. Lots of us women always in the goth scene loved our bobs, in every form.

@@anthonywyattStylist yes, I know. Not everyone looks good in a bobbed cut, you are totally right, you have to have the face for it.😊
I love short-haired girls/tomboys so this is definitely in my wheelhouse.

Is it possible she meant the 'Marcel'? That's a bob with a marcel wave.
@@yana1955 ...Oh, I'm bad misspelled.
I was just going to add that a Marcel was a Marcel wave on a short cut - very glad to see that someone beat me to it.
It’s fascinating to hear so many opinions on bobbed hair! I used to have mine bobbed but I find you can’t do as much with it.

A sign of liberation.👍❤
Not really. They lined up like sheep to be shorn. Hardly a sign of individualism or liberation.
I enjoyed this video. Thank you so much for posting this!

I've had long hair and very short hair, but a bob is the style I keep the longest.
How can they do a story about the bob without Louise Brooks she wore it better than anyone else.
This was such a delight to listen to, thank you!
The bob and the pixie are my favorite styles. And I have sported them both!
As a hair stylist i appreciate this
I hate it. But love the short styles we do today

FIRST BOB HAIR ICON = LOUISE BROOKS
I would literally pay a guy 1,000,000 dollars if he went to 1930 and found a woman with long hair

I like Bob's with a little length to it and curly!
Thanks😊
Picture it ....having very long hair in the Victorian style and cutting it as short as a man hair. I'm sure it cause alot of issue
Interesting!
I prefer to have my hair bobbed simply because it's convenient for me. It takes longer to wash long hair than short hair.
This is hilarious!

Louise made her film debut in 1925, so that's probably why she was not in this article, since Photoplay was all about Hollywood.

Today, long hair is part of the woman's uniform. So tiring and boring. Glad I'm a man. And I don't wear any damn baseball cap.
I don't wear bobbed hair.
