Getting lumber at menards is easier if you order online. Put in your order, then send a note to phone, drive directly to the gate, scan the phone, pick up lumber and leave. Much faster if you just need some stuff from the lumber yard.
It is you, Menards is my #1 store. I am so done with dragging lumber around on a cart, through narrow isles, through a checkout, and across the parking lot to load. Menards has it all just don't take your bride because they have quite the selection for her interests. I'm lucky because Menards has a strong presents in SE Michigan. For my Stihl and Milwaukee needs it is ACE Hardware. I have not been in a HD or Lowes in years.
The key to buying lumber at Menards is to order it online in the app, then just drive around without going into the store at all. Drive in, grab your stuff, show the security guy on the way out, and roll. We got a Menards in my area a few years ago, and now we have 3 or 4, and it's my first stop for just about anything - even though I have a HD and Lowes closer.
Don't they give you all the twisty lumber that everyone else has cast aside? Seems like every time i have bough lumber there is a big pile of junky lumber on top of the bundle that have already been rejected by other customers, seems like the good to bad ratio is about 4 bad for 1 good piece.
@@NorthStar09 Unless you're buying a quantity that is a full pallet (which would stay strapped when shipped in from them until you pick it up), you go pick and load your own lumber when you go in after buying online. Only if you have them deliver do they pick it. Generally Menards seems to do a better job of culling the really awful lumber, and you can always take uncut pieces back and return them if you really wanted to.
Good morning from Kentucky . My wife and I went to Menards yesterday . We bought 6 by 6 . What I liked was the fact we didn't have to load them . They loaded the ten of them for us .
Todays tools are just incredible. I go back to the 50's (actually the 40's but too young to know about tools then) and these new battery tools are marvels. I tried a couple of Black and Decker early lead acid battery tools back when they first came out many years ago, but no cigar lol! Maybe 5 minutes of useful tool life that didn't work that good the first minute much less after 10. But today's are so convenient, and you're right, the batteries if you have 2 or 3, last longer than I do. I don't even get into the battery vs fossil fuel debate because truth is, there's a place for both. But building tools? Battery all the way for me.
I felt like when you talked about purchasing the lumber for the Cabin, and you got it stained, or clear coated, you were going to love that. HUGE time saver, i remember all the videos on the siding you put in back at your house. O my goodness, lots of extra work, wouldn't much matter how much extra for the stained wood, the time. You have about, i think, a 4 hour round trip to the Cabin, and you made up for that in time saved on pre-strained lumber. Great video-love the Cabin so peaceful. ty ❤💯🙏
Mike, I know the feeling of something being stolen. My wife and I bought a brand new 1979 ford F250. Had it for a short time. I parked it at work by the side door. When I was done with lunch and figured I'd put my lunch container in the truck to my terrible surprise, there was an empty spot. The police found the truck about a month later. With no bed and a few small items missing. We had the truck repaired and had to use an old bed, which killed me. I kept the bed immaculate. About a month later, my wife took it to work and parked it in a fenced-in area that you used a card to enter. I get a call at 2 am. The truck is gone a second time. I never saw it again.
Last October we moved from CT to an unincorporated, unrestricted town in south west VA in the Blue ridge mountains. No one locks their doors here. It’s like we went back in time. I put up a 30x60 building where all of my tools and woodworking machinery are. I’ve got several cameras setup that keep watch but the only thing that triggers them are flying insects. In CT there were break ins all around us and we lived in the woods. Once burned, you never forget the feeling.
Wow Mike, Almost the exact same story. When I was a young man, around forty years ago, I was a building contractor in our small town. Worked all week, and most every Saturday, church on Sunday. I was building a basement house for us in My "free time", lol, and had the upstairs framed and roofed. Came home from a family gathering after church one afternoon, the rear basement door was standing open, and yes, we were very violated. No other word discribes it better. I was so upset and frustrated. Anyway, glad you shared that story, No one can imagine what it feels like unless you experience it. God bless you and your family.!!
Good morning from the house of pine up here in Plattsburgh, NY. My first time seeing red pine T&G. Looks great! 3 of My high school summers I apprenticed for Everett Richards. A well known Adirondack great camp finish carpenter. He taught Me to hang T&G from the top down. He hand nailed everything. Yup that's pain. Start a finish nail tap a 1 1/4" hand chisel into the stud and pry upwards so board is tight and hammer nail in not leaving a mark on wood. Then use a hand set to set mail. Rip bottom board for a tight fit. Super slow to install. Any butt fit ends were on a stud. End surfaces were beveled with a small hand plane. I found the softwood interior walls hold the heat once warm and humidity during summer months. It'll be beautiful when finished. I can see another cottage out in new clearing at home.
Mike - you got an EARLY start on Saturday!! Glad your stolen tools story headline doesn't involve current project 👍 Your Comins Woodshoppe T&G info may point me to them for a project I have upcoming. Ship it and put it up. Will look good on my new shop ceiling. THANKS!
Great video mike. The first time i went to Menards i couldn't believe it its huge i love that store. I go to the one in the highlands I've been to that one by bass pro several times too they are all identical in the layout and size. I love the fact that you don't have to put all your lumber on a cart and then onto your truck it saves a step handling it by going in and telling them what you want and then driving up too it. there prices are generaly lower than other stores too and most of the year they do the 11% rebate on everything which you mail in for store credit.
I’m also a big fan of the Bosch laser. I use that thing at work regularly in the crane industry. I can use it to take accurate measurements where it would be almost impossible to use a tape up in the air. I can use it to point at stuff for the customer with the laser. Can’t believe how much I use that thing.
Mike I like Dewalt and Milwaukee tools too, but what struck my interest was those clamps that you can turn around and use for spreading. I really like that T&G that you’re putting up. It looks great. Cool video 👍❤️
Hello, Mike a long-time fan of your channel. I purchased the same lumber from Woodworkers Shop in Michigan for my family cabin. There will be a few pieces that will not fit as tight as intended. One of the easiest and fastest ways I found to tighten the board up was to take a wood chisel and pound it in right above the nailing flange pry it down to tighten the joint then nail away. I also used all the scrapes for kindling for my wood burner. Keep up the great content!
Loved to show you our cabin in Bedford Co. One thing about the trim we used on the T&G is we used 2x4’s for some trim. First they were roughed up with a Chain and hammer with some knife cuts on the edges. Then stained and once in place a two inch counter sink hole was cut for the large square head antique bolts I found and painted black. Turned out great!
I know the feeling back in 97 had all my tools stolen from my attached garage . its definitely a feeling of violation, and then always thinking every car that drove by my house was suspect.. for years i had that feeling
Good morning Morgan's from the Gulf Coast . I guess you could say we all have break in , stolen stories. My younger daughter had her place broken into twice ! This is a residential neighborhood. The first time the door off the carport was kicked in ! The second time was through a small bathroom window that only a child could fit through. Once the child was in the house , they unlocked the door. The thieves were the gab and go ,real quick, no ran sacking ! The one thing they took that saddened me was my late wife's jewelry box . There was nothing of great valve , but were things of great sentimental valve like her wedding ring.
I really like that T&G, looks good goes up easy, hardly any waste! Never knew about the sawdust being so flammable, of course it's dry wood tiny flecks, why wouldn't it be very flammable. Cabin is looking good!
The wall looks great looking forward too finished results. I discovered a Menards in Indiana when I was still driving and while waiting to get loaded I took a walk through the store and your right they have everything. I bought several items from them. I think the closest one to me is in Mansfield Oh, but that's about a 3, 3 1/2 hour drive so a little further than I'd like to drive.
Growing up in a small town there was a Barber shop, cobbler shop, lumberyard, hardware store, and grocery store. I feel that was the reason we felt like that was the way to have a good solid community. The basis for our economy was the Coal Mine. We were our own little world and we didn't have a need for law enforcement. If a person was doing something they weren't suppose to do someone will tell you to stop. When I got home dad or mom would talk to me. That was why I feel I grew up in the best environment possible.
Definitely YOU!!! Menards is the best place there is. Lived in Iowa and love those places. Now in Arizona and god all we have is HD and Lowe’s. Like driving the Tahoe Denali and the Subaru
Good morning from Upstate South Carolina. Midnight post? Started to watch but feel asleep. Saw my first autonomous floor sweeper at our local Sam's Club about 3 years ago. Have another productive day.
Hey Mike do you watch RUclipsr “Lumnah Acres”? Anyway Al is using the same containers for his fire wood and has used the inner tub to make a drop in roof for the container by cutting it at an angle across the tub. Thought it was a good idea and helps shed rain, snow and still allow the wood to vent moisture.
Mike, just a suggestion, when you make your door & window trim allow the trim to overlap the wall wood. Rip the backside to accommodate 2-7/8" + 1" overlap. Maybe a 1/4" thick. Good luck!
Wall siding looks great .!! I have had two instances were I come out of Home Depot and my entire van was gone. Once as a water proofing specialist the other was my Air conditioning van, that one had 25,000 in tools. Needless to say I still haven’t rebuilt my tool collection.
good morning Mike I will says yes that fitted tongue and groove is the stuff the only time I used some of that was when I did a demo and kept the flooring and reuse it that was nice to not have to cut on beam and the one you got pre finish is even better you will go through that cabin in no time compared to the place at home have a great
Hey Mike, How you doing? Great video, thanks for sharing, and for the education, it’s very much appreciated. Take care, have a great day, all the best, and God bless. Sincerely, ✝️🇺🇸🗽🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊⛴️🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊⚓️🙋🏻♂️
One suggestion for when you're not sure if you need to bring your tablesaw. Get a track saw. When ever I go someplace to do some kind of wood work for someone, I just throw my tracksaw and a long track in. They are light, don't take up a lot of room, and I can do about everything a tablesaw can do. If you have to do a lot of rip cuts, it will take longer but it will get you through in a pinch.
Mike, another excellent video and so far the tongue and groove is looking 👀 amazing 🤩 not bad for not being a carpenter I’m sure 👍 that Melissa will probably won’t want to leave the cabin when it’s finished ✅ 😮😊❤
Save big money save big money save big money at Menards! Definitely my go to home improvement store and the outdoor lumber yard is the only way to go if you are buying anything more than a few 2 x 4's.
I have bought alot of building materials from the Morgantown Menards, I like the Lumber yard there better than the other box stores and the rebates are nice too. The cabin is looking good 👍 👌
Mike, I live in Minnesota and there is a Menards within 20 miles of anywhere in the state. Most of their products are great however the lumber is So-So. Electrical and plumbing are very good. The place is a gauntlet until you get used to it. Staff can be hard to find and help loading can be a challenge but I have had the same experience at Home Depot and Lowes where the hired help are busy doing other things. Menards is based out of Eau Claire Wisconsin. They used to have a guy named Ray that did the commercials. I worked in Eau Claire from time to time and Ray would be doing commercials for Christmas items in July. That store was always 4 to 5 months ahead of time. Ray was great and he had glasses with no lenses !!! I believe he taught at the college there. Ray passed away a few years ago but his likeness is still on a lot of advertising. Also when Menards remodels.... They just build a new store right next to the old one... That way they are still selling product Ray used to say "Save Big Money at Menards" My son would say to me "Dad !!! if you don't stop at Menards you save really "Big Money" I think he was 8 years old. Gotta love your kids
Menards is my closest box store but now I find myself using Home Depot more. They have my red tools and free next day delivery on most things. I like router work. You could rabbet your trim boards to go over the tongue and groove. I can relate to the break in story.
Here in Morgantown I use Menards a lot more than Lowes. Using the rebates I have made several purchases. Close to $500. dollars purchasing all with rebates. The lumber may be slightly more than Lowes but there is always someone in the lumberyard to help sort out the best wood and the fact thkat they will help with the loading.
You might reconsider using dark brown trim around the windows because it has a surprisingly large effect on the amount of outside light getting into the building when compared to light/white trim.
Mike, I too have a lot of DeWalt battery powered tools, some exactly like yours. If i may suggest, the DeWalt FlexVolt batteries will work on all those 20V tools you had on your tailgate. I use the 6 and 9 Ah FlexVolt, but they do have a 12 Ah version too. Now the FlexVolt batteries are larger in size than those you have, but they power those tools with no issue. Their 20V Max Powerstack batteries are another option. Keep up the great work 👍👍
There's a reason people put spark arrestors on their dust evacuation systems in their shops. You just demonstrated it perfectly. And I understand what you mean about feeling violated after a theft. I was a traveling musician until I retired at 65. I was on the road on one of my trips for about a month. Came back and as I walked up the steps I noticed the door was open. My heart sank. On that tour I was playing bass and was using my Rickenbacker bass because it was a beautiful showy bass. But at home I had a Fender precision that was a collectible that was one of 700 and just sounded and played great so I used it to record with and play on local engagements. I also had a Gibson 335 that had some custom work done on it along with a 50 watt Marshall that had also been customized. Money was not so easy to come by in those days so these were hard earned treasures that I would never have sold for any amount of money. They were gone. I sat on the bed and cried. Literally. They were never recovered.
Ohh my gosh...sadly, you almost can't let anyone know you play if you're ever going out on tour. Unless someone is always there. I guess why so many Nashville guys keep stuff in storage. None of my stuff is ever out in the public spaces of the house, except around family. Have you seen Vince Gill's basement studio? Stuffed full of vintage Martins/Fenders/Gibson's...he's GOT to have some amazing security...lol.
@@Guitaural. True. I bet Vince's place is amazing. Life was pretty touch and go back when my break in occurred, but that was many years ago and I've been greatly blessed since then and also have a wonderful collection of gear and an incredible 48 track studio. It's an unbelievable time now with the technology we have. I'm 80 now and don't do much other than my youtube channel, but it's been a good life so I can't complain. Much better than when the break in occurred. Thank you Lord!!
@@BirdYoumans He is ALWAYS good, that's for sure. Same here, He has blessed me immensely. Funny how back in the 70's/80s I wanted a studio _so_ bad, but the cost on everything was astronomical. People can be setup much cheaper these days, but a lot of the music is pretty terrible...lol. God bless!
Hi Mike. Beautiful wood & installation. Just magical. You'll probably won't go back to the " other" T&G. 🙂🙂🙂🙂 Your stolen tool story: It happened to my late nieghbor in Upstate N.Y. But. It was plywood. 15 sheets of 3/4 CDX! He was the only one of that dirt road. No very close nieghbors. For me. They stole my 10 speed bike. Agree. You do feel violated. My late nieghbor did too. Say Hi to Melissa, Melissa's dad, Eva, Hunter, Levi, Tyler, & Hannah. Have a good Saturday everyone. 🥰😉👍❤️💜🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Instead of ripping a 2x down to 2 7/8 maybe leave it 3 1/2” and put a 3/4”rabbet along the edge. The trim won’t look so narrow plus it would overlap the T&G a bit in case anything were to ever shrink or move. Looking good though, seems like a relaxing project.
Thanks, works best if you’re doing miter cuts at the corners but not impossible if you’re doing square cuts to match the window trim, just a little more work to put the rabbet on the end of the board as well as the edge. I agree with the rest, stick with Menards. And definitely get the app so you can buy items in the yard before you even leave the house and not have to put on 2000 steps walking through the store.
I Love Menards, had one where I used to live but we don't have them down here in South Carolina. Way better for lumber than the orange and blue stores! And Mike I hate nothing more than thieves and lairs. That wall looked real good, can't wait to see the finished product.
We have a Menards here in Ohio where I live I absolutely love the store . They do have everything and if you can find it they have it online. It's the only store I will go to over home Depot or Lowe's we have all three in a my area. The more you go to Menards you love it more I'm Shure.
Hey Mike, Menards is a Wisconsin home base company. They have two types of layouts Electric on the right or Electric on the left otherwise their stores are setup pretty much the same. Their wood products are decent usually a better selection than Home Depot. Save your receipts and get the 11% rebate. A lot of their tools and such are of Chinese origin so kind of like harbor freight in that regards.
Run the pine about 1-1/2” off the door jamb, then take your pine material, rip it to the dimension of the pine and put it on the door jamb with a 1/4” reveal. Then you can put casing on if you like.
I’ve put up T&G like in your building at home. We stained, finished, cut had waste. Wow that stuff you’re using at the cabin looks like the cats meow. Keep trying Menard’s it’s great! Looks great can’t wait for the transformation. 🤙🏼🇺🇸
I have two Menards near me. You are right, they have everything. The system for just getting a few pieces of lumber is cumbersome. At 77 YOA, I don’t walk that well, and having to go all the way to the back, getting a ticket, then back to the front to pay, then out to the truck. It’s easy from there. I try to get a list of everything I’m going to need, before I make the trip. I do wish that they had a guy up front, just for those of us that need just lumber to get the ticket, pay and be on our way. I know they just want us to see something on sale, or whatever, on the way back and forth.
You are lucky you have not had no problems at your cabin these days people will steal anything and mess up anything just I hope you do not never have any problems up there at the cabin but you never know have a great weekend and a great week coming up help the whole family is doing good
GOOOOOOOD SATURDAY MAAAAAAWNIN EVERYONE!!!!….frim a beautiful and breezy morning here in VaBch…..nice video again Mike. I’ve never been to a menards either so thanks for the mini tour. Don forget to pick up some more precious metals on you way home. Tongue & groove looks fantastic Have a day! HELLOOOO HUNTER 😊
Tool selection looked good. Only thing I might have brought is my oscillating tool but you had your jig saw which worked just as good. Menards was the first big box store I went to so am very used to it. I think Lowes and HD are weird. Its what you are use to right? They do have some lumber inside, the basic stuff and the expensive stuff. That way if you only need a couple basic boards you can put it on a cart and go out the door. On your next visit you need to give yourself some extra time (2hr) to just look around and get used to there layout. The only thing they don't really have is quality tools although they do have some Bosch. But everything else is pretty good. I have been to one of there 2 story stores and it has everything including groceries excluding fresh produce. I always associate them to being the offspring of HD and Walmart with everything they carry.
I work for a manufacturer and we sell to HD, Lowes, Menards and every other Hardware and contractor supply store across the country. I may be biased because Menards is one of my accounts, but I was a Menards customer long before I was managing the account sales. Menards is by far the best stocking retailer of building supplies. They have the best quality dimensional lumber and the best inventory. I am an hobbyist woodworker and they have a good selection of milled hardwood. And as you mentioned, they have a very wide selection of products as their stores are much larger than any other home improvement type retailer.
Curtis Lumber in Washington County, NY (where my cabin is) has the same drive through system. My early hesitation was "wait a minute, are they going to pick through and give me good lumber?" The answer is yes, they do.
Even in that light, that T&G looks great. Much much better than drywall. I’m m excited to see the finished product. Have a great weekend and stay safe everybody
Looks great and simple to install. May consider figuring where wood stove is going and document the stud location. It’s hard to locate and avoid studs with wood walls and concealed fasteners.
Omg, what a shopping area. You'll have to make a day of it and bring Melissa. Love that tongue and groove wall. Very nice. I can't wait to see the walls finished. I love your story time. I have two related; the sawdust burned 2 feet above the fire!! At my work, true name, Ray Smart, was an avid sportsman and bullet reloader. As he was leaving for work, he loaded up his wood stove for his wife, as it was very cold. To save time, he poured gun powder into his hand and took it to his stove. He bent over to see inside and tossed the powder into the stove. Laughter erupted when he walked into work w no mustache or eyebrows. Theives. My houses have been broken into 4 times. The first time, they knew I was working out of state, only home for the weekend. Took everything. I mean everything. The deputy and I went to middle school together. What a fumbling idiot. They even took my file cabinet. It wasn't locked. Full of sentimental things that I know they just dumped out somewhere. Nothing of value to them in it. That hurt so bad. 2nd time I rented a duplex next to the high school we were building. Came home, saw the door cracked open, that same sick to my stomach feeling overcame me. Neighbor was a city cop that worked nights. Absolutely no help whatsoever. It happened two more times. Needless to say, I have 8 cameras outside, two inside. My EDC goes on my pants in the morning and beside my pillow when I change into my pj's. Even when I know I'm not leaving my house. So help me, true. I put a shelf up beside my toilet to lay my pistol on. NC has 500k illegals. I will not hesitate so help me, I will NOT HESITATE!!!. I have a permit, and am a gold member of USCCA. I'm 69 and handicap. There's my story. Thanks for the late video.👍🚜❤️🙏🇺🇲🇺🇲
Tough story but glad you’re past it. Keep in mind it’s not only illegals that steal things. Thieves, troublemakers, and other malcontents are throughout our society - it’s not just one group of people.
It's sad we have to live like this. I'm in podunk IA and started to EDC, there have been a couple times when I forgot and I'm like crap forgot it, if the bride is with me she's always, like do you think you really need it? I always say or think, every victim didn't think so either. Times and liberal policies have dictated the need.
Not many things worse than a thief. My car being broke into was one of e worst feelings of paranoia I ever had to go thru. I waited up like you did for weeks and weeks. Love the tongue and groove look in the cabin. Going to look super when the trim is in and it’s all complete.
Wow. That siding is great especially with the joints on the ends. It will really make nice finished wall. And not having to sand and finish it is a win win.
Great progress for the limited time... Inside is really going to POP when finished... here lawn service trucks are targets for thieves. I hate when someone causes anguish and financial problems for those trying to earn a living.. looking forward to when you return to cabin..
Look into getting a “bed slide” for the pickup. I think I want one but would like to see a few real world videos on it. Cabin looking good. Weather has been great here lately, great fall so far.
Hi Mike! Check out the Milwaukee track saw. Leave your table saw at home. Would be ideal for those long rips you have to do with the jigsaw. Wish you well.
Living in Eau Claire WI, the home of Menards it is our only option. No Home Depot or Lowes. John Menard has done a good job of keeping them at bay. love the store and it’s great to go for one stop shopping.
We have Menards here in Michigan they have a few things I like they have a good selection of hardwoods and a big selection of trim especially Oak… 🇺🇸👊🏼👊🏼✌🏼
Mike, when you demonstrated how flammable sawdust was it reminded me of how we used coffee creamer powder out of our military rations to do the same thing. It was a great fire starter. 😂
Mike, I am with you 100%. Practically everywhere I go, and wherever I may be, my antenna is up, and the radar is turned on. If you have anything of value, someone will want to take it. This may seem a little fanatical, but it has paid off for me. Prevention is worth its weight in gold. You are doing very well, and I hope the very best for you and yours. Say hi to Melissa and the canine friends.
Not use to ur videos coming out later in the night it’s usually early morning but thanks for sharing keep on keeping on with that being said god bless and hope to see you on the next one
Texas dove hunt. Stopped at a restaurant afterward. Took my (expensive) shotgun (in its breakdown case) in with me and my buddies all laughed. Nine other guys lost one to three shotguns plus ammunition. I never assume any place is “safe”. I worry about your lumber. BTW, I always take all portable tools. You know, belt and suspenders. Looks really good. Great job.
Menard's is the best! Always cheaper than HD & Lowes, plus 11% rebate plus 2% contractor rebate. You can return anything without receipt, even many years after purchase. I recently went to Lowes for the first time in a decade. Three months later, they wouldn't return a new in package item with receipt because it was past 90 days. Most of my jobs take a few months to finish. I now drive 90 minutes to Menards over 5 miles to the other options.
When I was building my house in NH I would haul all my tools back to RI in an enclosed trailer when I wasn't working there, because I was afraid of them getting stolen. One day while I was there working with my electrician two dudes showed up in a van asking if we wanted to buy some tools out of their van, I'm convinced those were all stolen tools and I'm sure if I hadn't been there that day they were probably on the hunt for more tools to steal!
My husband is soon to be 82. We live 1 mile from Menards. He goes to Menards almost daily. Need I say, he loves that store. I always check online cheaper prices, and place a Menards order for pick-up. At times there is also 11% rebate). There is a small shopping charge, but really saves time. You do not go inside for this, just directly to the gate and the attendant directs you where to go.
Rebates are actually marketing 101. They get you into the store with the knowledge a significant number of people will not file the necessary paper work to collect the rebate. And as a bonus to the store you have to buy more product to actually get the rebate. Rebates are a win win for the store.
Hi guys Thought you where having trouble Mike So glad it’s not what I thought The walls are looking good btw You’ll soon rattle it off if you manage a spell down there at it Take care guys 5 am when this came in Mike ? 👍👍👍
Hi Mike, the cabin is looking nice. Amazing what people will steal. I grew up in Columbus Indiana, I remember my dad and I went to a store named Airways in the early 80’s to buy an oil filter for a 1976 Toyota Corolla. We then stopped at Radio Shack, it was summer and the car didn’t have air conditioning, so we left the windows down. When we came out someone had reached in and stole the bag with the oil filter. My dad was mad, but then laughed saying, who would steal an oil filter for a 1976 Toyota Corolla, bet they will be disappointed when they see what they got! 😂
Funny to hear go “down here” for a relaxation property. In Michigan, we “go up north”. In our case to our wooded off grid acreage on a ridge that we call “Peaceful Ridge”.
Hey Mike. I am in the convenience store/gas station business. Pretty well versed in the video camera stuff and have pretty much seen it all. We had an issue several years ago where I guy comes in and fills up his vehicle with gas. Comes in the store carrying a 2-3 year old kid and a large diaper bag over his shoulder that appeared to have very little in it and walks around the store for a few minutes. Says to the cashier I need to change her diaper, I'll be right back up to pay you. 10 minutes or so goes by and all of a sudden he's gone without paying. No problem. I've got video of the vehicle, license plate, tons of footage of the guy, followed him around the store on cameras and documented everything he stole and put in the diaper bag which was stuffed full. Called the local PD and gave him all the stuff i had. Couple of days later the officer comes back. The license plates on the vehicle are stolen, the vehicle is stolen, and he had put out pictures of the guy through a state deal for police and not a single hit. Moral of the story. Cameras are a great assist but.....
That is what drives me nuts about liberal idiots berating cops for chasing people, the ding bats say "they have his plate number, just go to his house and wait". The only thing the cops can do by going to the registered owner of the license plates, is to let them know their license plates have been stolen.
You should have called the police while you were video taping him stealing your stuff . And never let someone tell you I'll be right back to pay no you pay me now.
@@seancasey2444 you missed the point which is cameras can give you all kinds of info but if it's false info, they are no help so don't rely completely on them. Discovering what he stole was after the fact for a police report but thanks for the advice.
Always good to have gaps for expansion and contraction, when it gets cold that building will shrink lol need that 20v dewalt router to cut out those windows 😀
Menards is a staple in rural farm country. They have to be all things to all people because many rural areas can't support separate hardware stores, appliance stores, farm stores, lumber yards, work boots and clothing, some food products, etc.
Most real good trades guys use vans! Mainly because our tools are safe and kept nice on a shelf! I would use a chain and pad lock on all the rear and side doors! But I still love my Trucks!
Mike, have you considered bring a small generator, a pancake compressor, and a pneumatic nailer? Much lighter than that DeWalt battery operated unit, I understand the convenience of using all battery operated tools but my shoulder would fall off if I used your DeWalt for that many boards plus the pneumatic would be quicker.
Menards is the BEST Wisconsin based company and John Menard built that business from the Ground up! If you really wanted to walk out to the lumber yard and put them on a mbuilding materials cart you could do that and walk out the front door!
The thing about Menards: it's employee owned so the employees have a vested interest in the store doing well AND they have said in the past that they don't want to "overgrow" - in other words, they're not going to build across the street from the Home Depot if they already have a store nearby. Their growth seems to be a very controlled thing. I LOVE Menards as a woman because I can get a lot in one stop.
I've been a carpenter cabinet maker my whole life (74years) if you leave 1 tool home you will always need it
Yeppers nail punch! Nail puller! Pry bar! LoL always something you need!
100% agree. I always live to regret leaving a tool at home that I had in my hand but decided I’d “never” need …lol.
That seems to always be the case
Great job Mike. Menards, you'll get the hang of it, my favorite thing it is family owned.
No Menards in E Texas Lowe’s or Home Depot, poor selection at both and usually poor service especially at Lowes😢😢😢
11% rebates are great
Don't they give you all the twisty lumber that everyone else has cast aside?
Don't forget to use your 11% rebates
Great video-love the Cabin so peaceful. ty ❤💯🙏
Mike,
I know the feeling of something being stolen.
I’d have been mad they took my lunch, too!
@amandar7719 they took my truck not my lunch?
Where do you live? I don't want to go there. Ever
I never leave tools behind on the job site, not even for lunch. I live by "trust is earned not given."
I kinda wish they would just drop their prices 11%.
The folks that don't rember to, or don't hassle with the rebates, sponsor their race car team.
Pretty common in the midwest but i like to go back and pick out my own lumber which they let you do and i can pick up house cleaning stuff as well
Hey Mike do you watch RUclipsr “Lumnah Acres”?
Needless to say I still haven’t rebuilt my tool collection.
good morning Mike I will says yes that fitted tongue and groove is the stuff the only time I used some of that was when I did a demo and kept the flooring and reuse it that was nice to not have to cut on beam and the one you got pre finish is even better you will go through that cabin in no time compared to the place at home have a great
Hey Mike,
How you doing? Great video, thanks for sharing, and for the education, it’s very much appreciated. Take care, have a great day, all the best, and God bless.
Sincerely,
✝️🇺🇸🗽🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊⛴️🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊⚓️🙋🏻♂️
That way they are still selling product
Ray used to say "Save Big Money at Menards" My son would say to me "Dad !!! if you don't stop at Menards you save really "Big Money" I think he was 8 years old.
That’s a very good idea
Good synopsis. They used to have the name brands but over the years have moved away from the bigger tool brands. Ryobi and Bosch are still there.
Love Menards. We have them all over up here in Minnesota. As you stated, they have EVERYTHING!
Good morning Mike, The wall turned out very nice and I see what you mean by time saving and not much material wasted.
I like the Menards system. It reminds me of the old days where you only have to handle the lumber once to get it in your truck.
You are lucky you have not had no problems at your cabin these days people will steal anything and mess up anything just I hope you do not never have any problems up there at the cabin but you never know have a great weekend and a great week coming up help the whole family is doing good
Mike…you are very resourceful….wish we lived closer to you so I could get to know you and help you out on some of your projects…I am jealous
Tongue & groove looks fantastic
Have a day!
I think you should have put vapor barrier up to keep that paper on the insulation from getting wet from condensation.
I live in Wisconsin. I use Menards all the time. Its a great store.
Lol, you say I forgot my measurements, I say to the TV 29 and 3/8. 😂
i did the very same thing!
Hi guys Thought you where having trouble Mike So glad it’s not what I thought The walls are looking good btw You’ll soon rattle it off if you manage a spell down there at it
Take care guys 5 am when this came in Mike ? 👍👍👍
Same here, you buy a few DeWalt and end up loading up the workshop after a few years. And a HUGE Menards fan. They are the best.
I’m currently working on making an old building into a shop. You have me considering this.
Great video Mike. Nice progress with the T&G. Looks very nice. Look forward to seeing the process continue.
Funny to hear go “down here” for a relaxation property. In Michigan, we “go up north”. In our case to our wooded off grid acreage on a ridge that we call “Peaceful Ridge”.
Hey Mike, install jamb extensions on door jamb to bring pine to doors. Just a thought.😊
Great choice on the pre-finished T&G. Looks fantastic! What a time saver, you nailed it (no pun intended).
Menards is a staple in rural farm country. They have to be all things to all people because many rural areas can't support separate hardware stores, appliance stores, farm stores, lumber yards, work boots and clothing, some food products, etc.
Born in Wisconsin, Menards is the only place we went. Just in the last 5 years have I shopped Lowe's and HD.
Mike if you give Menards a chance you will love it, especially during 11% rebate days. It’s our go to store for most hardware, tools, plumbing, etc
Mike, that's crazy. I never knew sawdust would flame up like that. Good to know!
We love ❤Menards once you get used to there ways it’s faster and better than depot or Lowe’s
Most real good trades guys use vans! Mainly because our tools are safe and kept nice on a shelf! I would use a chain and pad lock on all the rear and side doors! But I still love my Trucks!
Just started watching some of your videos and looking forward to watching more ….. wishing you a wonderful and bless day …… 🤓
Thank you! You too!
Hearing protection?
Menards is the BEST Wisconsin based company and John Menard built that business from the Ground up! If you really wanted to walk out to the lumber yard and put them on a mbuilding materials cart you could do that and walk out the front door!
Holy crap! I wish I was not a carpenter and could do the work that you do. 🇨🇦
The wall looks great. The 3 day stay will definitely make some walls get covered. Hopefully you never have to lose your stuff again.
