For the western audience, this is a Melody that was stolen by a very famous former British subject from British India named Rabindranath Tagore. He was very close to the Royal Court back in the early 1900s and also won a Nobel prize. However, when I went through his contemporaneous records, books, and published notations of his songs, there is NO mention of the fact that several of his most popular songs, including this specific one, are plagiarized direct melodic/lyrical copies of timeless Scotish/Irish/British tunes like this one. Tagore in later stages of his life in some of his memoires dropped a line or two here and there where he stated that he took European tunes to embellish his Music. However, he rarely provided specific references regarding exactly which music from which European composer. That makes his work intellectually disingenuous and thus plagiarized, even in that era's context, since copy right protection was part of the British life since the early 19th century. After spending considerable time reviewing Tagore's contemporaneous records and materials, I am of the view that the guy's majority of the popular songs, most of which now enjoy something akin to religious Hymn status in Bengali culture , are shameless plagiarism of European content, most of the time, if not all of the time, without specific attribution of credit. This is a much overlooked topic and should be known by the world.
Shafquat Rabee: Get some education on Tagore, and education on his music ...it is clear you know nothing about this " guy" .nor about his music and work ..good luck on studying!!!
Education is what Bangladesh is lacking of course.. practice less fundamentalism. And also stop killing religious minorities in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is now a country of religious blinds, terrorists and looters..
Heartfelt presentation. Really loved this piece of musical work. Thanks for uploading.
Thanks for sharing. It's ironic that this charming melody is seldom heard in Ireland now but is popular in India.
