    Your video presentation was excellent. I concur with your evaluation of the top schools. I am considering enrolling my 15-year-old son at LUOA due to the unnecessary extra classes his current school is requiring. We recently relocated to Maryland from New York at the beginning of his 10th-grade year. The public school here is not meeting our expectations. My son only needs 4.5 courses/credits, US history, 2 English courses, 0.5 health, 0.5 PE, and 0.5 economics. He completed some high school courses in 8th grade and was a member of the National Junior Honor Society.
    The Maryland public school informed us that they do not allow students to graduate from 11th grade and must take his fourth English class the 12th grade. They also mentioned adding six additional classes to his schedule. According to LUOA requirements, he will need US history, 2 English courses, 1 Boys Health/PE II, 1 Bible course, 0.5 economics, 0.5 Virginia history, and 0.5 Academic & Career Success course, totaling 6.5 credits. This meets the full-time requirement and includes the mandatory Bible course. However, I am unsure if he can register for 2 English courses simultaneously. Do you know how this works?

    • @AmandaMelrose
      @AmandaMelrose  4 месяца назад

      If you go with an online school then the requirements are going to be similar to a traditional school, so I'm not sure if you can take 2 English courses at the same time. It's possible though!

      @@AmandaMelrose i am 3 months behind on english bc it wont let me skip this writing assignment to do other english work and i have no one to help me. ive been thinking about just spamming my keyboard and accepting the F on it. the program would actually be really nice if it let you skip certain assignments to come back to. and if you could skip the videos. i always play them on mute and then read the text next to the assignment. its stupid. most kids cant sit thru a video and maintain that information and would much rather just read the textbook attached to the work. very annoying

      I did grade 5 - grade 7 on Acellus, and I’d say the same. I homeschooled for various of reasons, but then because of Acellus I had no choice but to get back to real school bc my parents were then wary of homeschooling then. Now, I’m starting high school and they’re allowing me to homeschool again but obviously they have doubts and so do I, because I’m kinda scared if the other homeschool program will also turn out like Acellus

      Honestly you just make your own, or download one and personalize it. And if your student is applying to colleges then you might want to find out what they require and then create a transcript that aligns with their requirements. You can find sample transcripts online as well.

    When going online does the child/student still have to take state testing? If so how would that work?

    • @AmandaMelrose
      @AmandaMelrose  12 дней назад

      That is something you usually have to take care of yourself. In most cases you need to follow the homeschool laws for your state even if you are using an online private school. So if your state requires it (or if you just want to have state testing done) you will need to get that done yourself.

    Acellus academy is great. Penn foster is good too. James Madison High School is ok also. Continental Academy used to be really good and the cheapest in the nation for fully online private high school that was accredited. However they withdrew from regional accreditation in 2010 so I dont recommend them anymore. The rest of virtual high schools are rip offs.

    My considering Ignite. My daughter is in 8th grade public right now. I’m from Washington state. Are these private online schools still considered “homeschooling “ and we need to follow our states guidelines? Example, our state in Washington requires testing annually. Would I need to still do this if she’s enrolled with Ignite for example? Thanks

    • @AmandaMelrose
      @AmandaMelrose  9 месяцев назад

      This is a great question! I'm not 100% sure but my guess is that this would be considered a private school and not homeschooling. Just based on the definition of homeschooling and what you'd need to do, if they are doing all their schooling through Ignite then it wouldn't be homeschool. However, I do not know what the private school requirements are for your state, so definitely make sure to check that out.

    So let’s say my daughter is 16 and has 12 credits she brings with her from current high school she only needs 12 credits from Acellus can she power through the 12 credits in a few months and graduate at 16?

    • @AmandaMelrose
      @AmandaMelrose  5 месяцев назад +1

      I think they do have a limit on how fast you can earn the credits. Honestly if you wanted your daughter to graduate and start college early, you could just withdraw her and homeschool for the remaining classes and issue her diploma and transcripts yourself. You could use an online homeschooling program similar to Acellus but one that isn't a school.

      K12 used to be great. We started our son before the pandemic. Once C19 hit, they were inundated with too many kids and their infrastructure wasn't designed for that kind of sudden influx. They went from having 12 kids to a class to 30+. The one-on-one personalization disappeared. The communication with the instructors dropped. The quality of teachers dropped. We are now looking at different options for our son. (thus looking at this video).
