  • Venturing into the mountains north of Azusa, California, you'll encounter California State Route 39, known as "California's Abandoned Highway." The intrigue arises from the fact that the last four and a half miles of this road have remained sealed off since 1978, effectively isolating it from State Route 2. Despite its proximity to the second-largest city in the United States, this road sees scarce traffic due to its disconnected status.
In a captivating video, we embark on a journey along this highway as it winds through the Angeles National Forest. Notably, this very route played a role in the filming of "Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift." The video offers a visual exploration of the road and its surroundings. Additionally, it delves into the section of road that has been inaccessible for over 40 years-an expanse that was once celebrated as one of California's most picturesque drives.

Actually for Tokyo Drift, they used a section further south near the San Gabriel Dam (which you can see in the background). That section was never closed.

It’s not worth it, that money can be put to better use. If they open it for recreational use and a rock slide happens and someone is killed. It will be nothing but regret, leave it alone!
