Sinead O'Connor's recording is the Prince's "Nothing Compares To You" is the definitive version of that song. Rare as it is for a cover version to eclipse the original artist it is even rare still for another cover to stand up with the artist who made the definitive cover. Chris Stapelton's cover of "Nothing Compare's To You" the night Prince died is one of those rarer covers.

Personally it’s your channel creating quality content. Pause it where you want. I usually watch your analysis then go back and listen on the artists channel. I almost always hear something you’ve pointed out that I hadn’t really heard. It’s hearing it with new ears
Personal note: the instrumental version of this song by Apocaliptica was the prelude at my wedding, followed by my bride walking the aisle on my father's hand (her parents are both passed, and he's known her since she was 12), to Queen's "You Take My Breath Away." And she did. Still does.
As a beer somelier/brewer/musician I have many times thought about music/drink pairings. I would love to hear your pairings, and will definately bring my own music/drink pairings when you do.
I friend/coworker that hates has been teaching me to play guitar, he hates country but likes Christ Stapleton. We were working on one of Chris's songs and this came up after he about paused it I said let it go I think you'll like it. Lets this play he starts messing with his guitar then starts playing and got into it and I just thought no way I can do this yet I'll just watch. He played like the entire length at the end he said thank you said he had not had a chance to play like that in like 3 months. I like country despite he doesn't like it he's shown me a few songs and I think he's found a few other country songs he likes.
As an old guy that went through the 80s as a teen, I notice 4 songs that really define that era that you have not reviewed. Might be for good reasons, but these are mandatory listens if you want to understand any Gen-Xer. In reverse order: Quiet Riot “Cum on feel the noise”, Billy Idol “Rebel Yell”, Frankie Goes to Hollywood “Relax”, and Twisted Sister “We’re not gunna take it”. Top three I strongly suggest the music videos which also helps explain Gen-X. You do a fantastic if job in a very entertaining manner. Thank you.
If you haven’t heard his song Higher yet, I think you’ll find it fun to analyze. He spends a lot more time in his falsetto than usual, and plays around with removing that signature grit from his voice. Of course, he brings it right back again but it’s cool to hear him showing off his control.
I agree with you about this being perfect for Firefly. I can see it being played in a season finale while they're fighting their way out of an Alliance ambush, with flash backs to the Unification War, with no sound but the song playing.
The last part, his singing is free of affect and approaches Metallica. The guitar solo is beyond beauty and heavenly. There are no storms, just revealed joy. Redeemed

Two Firefly references in the first 3 comments has me super interested in the first 20 seconds. But I'm here to say I am not a particular blues fan and really not a country fan, I grew up on 80s & 90s metal. this could easily be a main backing track to either SOA (sons of anarchy) or The Punisher (netflix version w/ jon bernthal). that gritty dirty western blues with a kiss of anger that this song inhibits is masterful. there's so much power & pain in this version......absolutely incredible cover of an already timeless song that never failed to pull at the heartstrings.

This video reminds me of the documentary “Koyaanisqatsi” with music by Philip Glass. This video, as well as the guitar at the end, would fit right in with it! ❤️🎶
Yes, this does fit FIREFLY! Love it!
And yes, there is a guitar solo double standard. It just is.
Love the music/food/drink pairing idea.
Chris’s version of the National Anthem at the Super Bowl and his live performance with Dua Lipa are pretty incredible too.
❤❤❤ Firefly. Pisses me off they cancelled it.
Request - BREAKING BENJAMIN - Breath
(I'm not sure if you'll see this, Elizabeth, but I've always wondered if you listen to the full song after your analysis and before you record your final thoughts. Just curious! 😊)
Definitely one of the best vocal songs for breaking Benjamin, perhaps something on the soft side is forget it. But all phobia is great too!
the live version one?
@@soyjoy5258 For me, I like the studio version or the official music video.
I nearly didnt watch this as i love the original so much, but this is great but what made it worth the watch was you mentioning firefly - shiny!! One of the best shows ever. Nathan Fillion and Alan Tuduk fabulous! We were lucky in the Uk as it was shown in its correct order. What a waste it wasnt given more credit and more seasons, so much great stuff got lost during all the writers strikes, thank goodness us Browncoats got our Serenity, 'im a leaf on the wind.....'
Chris Stapleton is a very humble man he does the only reason he does this music like he does is because that's in his soul that's what he wants to do he cares about nothing else
“It’s beyond me”…when it comes to evaluating Chris Stapleton, what else can one say? Well stated.
Killer cover! Adding to my music mix. Thx TCV!
Redeemed
Goosebumps. Every. Single. Time.
0h my goodness!!! Firefly and SERENITY (same cast) are 2 of my favorites. We have a connection that tome is unexpected. ❤
Wow. That ending solo is truly epic. Like "Comfortably Numb" epic.
17:43 I absolutely love your approach to react videos. It's refreshing to hear someone encourage their viewers to go watch the video you're reacting to. I'm going to make more effort to play any source videos from now on.
I heard Chris Stapletons version a few months ago and it is so awesome!! And the few minutes when he’s just jamming is amazing
You are right about this song fitting in on Firefly.
I always love your reactions and analysis. It gives us laymen some insight into vocal techniques. I do wish you'd do 'Kalandra - Borders' though. It's such a hauntingly beautiful song.
Great video! Would kill to see the first reaction of the Metallica guys listening to it! That was super cool! 🤟✌️👌♥️🇨🇦
Country music (which I never listen) has done some amazing covers - this and Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt are *AMAZING*. More of these please!
Superb cover. I'm going to have to check out more from Chris. I'm only casually familiar with his music.
I loved this analysis. Please do another "getting drunk" video with something like Who let the Dogs Out or Mambo number 5.
Two Firefly references in the first 3 comments has me super interested in the first 20 seconds.
But I'm here to say I am not a particular blues fan and really not a country fan, I grew up on 80s & 90s metal. But I now have a Chris Stapleton Spotify playlist, I'll be paying more attention to styles outside my comfort zone
This is so more emotional than the original.
this could easily be a main backing track to either SOA (sons of anarchy) or The Punisher (netflix version w/ jon bernthal). that gritty dirty western blues with a kiss of anger that this song inhibits is masterful. there's so much power & pain in this version......absolutely incredible cover of an already timeless song that never failed to pull at the heartstrings.
The food and drink pairing would be awesome!
