I'm a 14 years old teen with depression. I always try to tell myself that I am not depressed and it's all just in my head but deep down I know that I am very depressed. While watching this video I burst into tears as all the 10 signs matched with me perfectly. And I don't know why but I am too scared to admit the fact that I am depressed and ask for help. Maybe I am getting used to being sad and depressed all the time but I don't wanna live with it forever. I just keep telling myself that as I grow up into an adult this depression will go away. But my biggest fear is what if it doesn't go away? What if anything doesn't get better but worse? What if I end up living like this forever?
This depression is killing me from inside, it feels like I am not alive but just stuck inside a living corpse. I find myself scrolling through the phone trying to distract myself from my feelings but that doesn't work. My mom always tells me that I am lazy and addicted to phone because of the fall in my grades but I hardly use my phone for an hour a day. All my teachers, relatives and parents just see me as a girl who used to be an excellent student but now just doesn't study anymore properly, doesn't complete her homework for an unknown reason. Nobody ever guessed till now that this reason is depressed, maybe because I always pretend to be okay while I am actually not. I'm trying my best to fight the inner demon of depression but it just seems to overpower me. I'm pretty sure that I would get the proper help I needed if I told my parents about it but something is stopping me from doing so and I don't know what it is. Maybe the fear that I am overthinking about all this and it's all just in my head but I don't really think so. Whenever I try to figure out why I'm feeling this way or what is the reason for which I'm depressed, I get no answer from myself. The thing that scares me the most is that unlike others I don't think I have any reasons to be depressed. But I am still feeling this way. Maybe I am going insane

    • @lilagobardhan9508
      @lilagobardhan9508 Год назад +5

You are not going insane, it's totally okay to feel like this. But you need to talk to someone, anyone, try with your parents, if you can't express what you're feeling with words, show them the video and tell them it's how you feel. If not your parents speak with someone you trust, ask to go see a shrink, there's nothing shameful in that. What you're going through is hard, what you're feeling might seem like the worst thing in the world but I'm sure you are strong enough to win against your inner demon of depression. It can go away, it can get better and for that you need to expel it out, write it down, say that you don't feel good and that you need help. Plus, thinking that you have no reason to be depressed is normal, you don't need to know why you're feeling like this, but you can figure it out with help (or not, some people figure it out on their own after some time but it's clearly not your fault so don't go that way). Good luck 🙂

I remember that I went through this when I was 15-16 in high school. All my friends had girlfriends/boyfriends but I was still single, and this got me thinking that I was too ugly for anyone to love. As result, my confidence and self-worth got very low. I was barely sleeping in a day and lost all my appetite. As result, I got really skinny but still thinking I was overweight. No, I wasn't having anorexia, I just got very obsessed with my look. And because of my poor sleeping habit, I now had eye bags, which didn't help me with my complex. And of course, my poor self care also effected my academic performance. I used to be the top of my class, but my grades were really bad during this time period. My teachers did not pay much attention, and my classmates thought I was doing this on purpose to get attention to myself. They even started to bullying me for being an "attention seeker". And my home life wasn't any better, I was constantly having huge arguments with my parents. I even started to believe that no one actually loved me, not even my own mother. And who would even love me even when my mother did not? I truly hit my lowest back then. I was crying every day, isolating myself from everyone, staying in my room and sleeping all the time... I healed by time and realized that the more I got obsessed with myself, the more I hated myself. Then I saw that I was projecting my own hate on others, and this was one of the main reason why people distanced themselves from me in the first place. I forced my self to get a routine. I started with my personal hygiene. Being clean and well cared actually made me feel better. I solved my problem with my sleeping and eating schedule. It took me a while but I made it. I'm 19 now and going to college, and that dark time of my life is just a bad memory now. So... Do I think I'm still ugly? No, I like the way I look now. Am I still single? Heck yeah😂 But except this time, I'm fine with being single and it's my own choosing.

I definitely can relate to some of these. I thought my depression started to hit around 20 years old, but I might’ve been suffering from it much sooner. I had a rocky childhood and dealt with grief and abandonment at a young age. I had to readjust and adapt to many environments before being settled at 13. I was bitter, sad, and very withdrawn. I had the toughest time in high school academically, I was too shy and scared to engage in activities I really liked, couldn’t make close friends at all, definitely no relationships and I stayed to myself for the most part. My mom kept wondering why I didn’t have friends or did a lot in school. I felt embarrassed that I didn’t have the cool high school experience like others had, I was just relieved I graduated. Ppl in school misunderstood me as stuck up and had an attitude but really I was quiet and awkward and didn’t know how to express myself. This deeply affected me moving forward.

Ooof! I didn't expect these many likes..... *sigh*
Everyone has their difficulties. Some people don't have anyone to open up while others cannot open up even though there are people around them. I don't know how to react. Just remember you are aware. Aware of your depression, and the fact that all of your negative perception is caused by depression. It might not be very clear but like a background voice deep inside you. As long as you've that clarity, you can get through it. If not now, then in the future, you will get a chance for treatment. Till then, be aware. And don't forget you are alive because you chose it. So, you will continue to live till you choose so. There must be a reason behind it. There must be still some meaning left in your life. Only you know that. You might not be aware of it. Nothing can force your life nor you, even yourself. Everything happens for a reason and no matter what, you've more than enough strength to embrace and overcome everything (aren't you already doing that?). You just need a right moment.
Hope these words don't trigger anyone.....and I would be glad if they help someone. I can't do more than this.

I had these signs for years and they went unrecognized. Depression set in for me when I was very young, and is still plaguing me even now as an adult. The worst part about having depression like this, especially for a young person, is that they miss out on a lot of helpful, interesting things that help them enjoy life. They don't play sports, they don't volunteer or go to extracurricular clubs often. If they're anything like I was, they barely get any experience developing relationships, and they close themselves off. There's huge chunks of my life that just feel like gaping holes I never was able to fill

I suffered from a depressive episode as a teenager because of bullying and being a deviant and also as an adult because of difficult job situation and bullying, too.
As you said, as an adult you might isolate yourself more from everyone. I can relate to that. As a teenager I threw myself into social interactions with my friends.
On the other side, my grades never slipped and I never felt unfocused. As an adult I did. Work quality became bad, focussing was became difficult.
It's quite interesting to see the differences.
But what is scary (for me), that these warning signs were so subtile, that I didn't notice and interfered with each other. So, being a workaholic gave you good grades but let your brain feel overwhelmed and focussing got hard. Studying this much isolates you from the rest, but you don't even want to spend time with them because of the lack of energy. So you keep staying in your room. Have a change of energy and neglect your needs. Hello, psychosomatic pain! :(

I'm also suffering as a 5th grader of elementary school (in Poland, so I'm 12 y.o.), (also) because of bullying in school and suicide toxicity to me from my colleagues. I was laughtered, irritated and triggered by my colleagues from the earliest days in pre-school to now (and maybe even to 8th class that is ending elementary school). I was autistic, and I am, and some time ago I was thinking I also had:
      Schizophrenia with no hallucinations: nope.
ADHD: not really (cuz of the TD).
      BPD: something clicking, but no.
NPD: because I was kind of selfish and aggresive for 1 week like 2 weeks ago: yes, but no.
And Teenager Depression - fits the best and clicks the loudest from these five now.

I am currently 12 and has been diagnosed with depression and was told to go to therapy for help, so having someone explain depression and how it affects people is really thoughtful. I am truly happy that there are some people in this world that actually have the heart to learn about depression and how to help a person out of it, because my experience with people finding out about my depression has just led to being bullied for being “emotional” and isolated. Hiiiii I was once a 13 yr old in your place. I know what it feels like to be in your place. I know what it feels like to be drowning in your own thoughts and slowly begin to lose yourself. Someone very close to me told me this advice. You have to wake up every day and tell yourself you're going to be happy. You have to verbally say it until you believe it. It's possible to get out of this. You just have to want it like REALLY WANT IT. Every problem you're ever going to have is going to be from your mind. I've seen people in the shittiest situations living their best lives and putting a smile on every day. Why? Cuz it's all mental. I still struggle a lot but having one person, just one to be there along for the ride helps tremendously. You're going to get through this. You just need to take the first step no matter how tiny it may be. I hope you get better just know I believe in you. If you ever need to I'm here to talk in this comment section❤️

I knew that I am going through depression, thank you so much! This video helped me to understand that I am really experiencing depression. I can relate to all the things discussed in the video. As a child who is experiencing the stress of school life and also going through some family issues, last 2/3 years have been really hard for me as a teen. I get angry at my parents quite quick and tbh they don't deserve it. They have done a lot of things for me and buy me everything that I want. I feel quite depressed all the time but as soon as I enter school and I am surrounded with my friends I always feel happy, so I used to doubt if I am depressed or if I'm just overthinking.
At the start of my first term I had set unrealistic expectations of scoring full marks in each subject, and due to which I barely took a good sleep and it affected my health a lot. I've been complaint to my mother that I feel that my body aches all the day, and I felt quite lazy and sleepy all day, it affected my studies and also my grades.
My term exams are going on rn. I'm done with 5 subjects and next week I've to give tests on more 5. I realised my mental health is going to affect my grades this year, but none of my family members or relatives would care. They would simply say "everyone goes through this" but they don't know teens who go through depression have a tough time managing their mental health and their studies.
I am feeling relieved after sharing my thoughts 💗

Oof yeah, you should never set a goal for having perfect marks in every subject at the beginning of the year, it’s unrealistic and you’ll only be disappointed when you inevitably fail. Anyways, don’t sacrifice your mental health for studies. Nothing is worth the price. Once your mental health gets better it will be easier for your grades to as well, so focus on that first. I know it’s easier said that done, but it’s true. Much easier to study when your mind is at peace. Also, don’t underestimate the importance of sleep. It’s actually very important to have good sleep as it’s a key factor in how you retain and remember information. How well you do in school and the amount of sleep you get is related. There’s a Ted Ed video on this, this is the link ruclips.net/video/gedoSfZvBgE/видео.html. Good luck, I hope you get through this soon!

I honestly did NOT think I was depressed, but when I saw signs 1, 2 7, 8 and even a little bit 10, I was like, "Dang, this is so me"; especially #2. As a 14 year old with autism and ADHD, I've been struggling with low confidence. It's been hard to appreciate my differences and love myself since I have many challenges with my executive functioning (things like communication/speech, coordination, etc.), so I struggle with feeling defective or unreliable. I've especially feared criticism from others, and because of that, I have a really cruel inner critic, plus I've been bullied a good bit at school (it's a lot to dig into). I'm trying hard to think higher of myself, even with all my flaws and struggles (perfectionism is one of them). I've really been studying up on self acceptance/appreciation and raising my confidence (on RUclips, go figure). I definitely know I need to stop trying so hard to improve myself and my flaws for now and just embrace all of myself and be content with who I am right now: I know that I'm awesome just as I am, and that I have more skills and strengths than I probably realize; I just need to truly start believing that on a spiritual level. Been considering going to a therapist though.

Nice in all cases but in some, it is possible to re-experience depression again at other stages throughout your life
The advantage of this time round is that you are aware of the triggers that will start it off, and therefore these triggers need to be avoided!
You will also be aware as to how depression will affect you. Avoiding stressful situations, and insuring you get good quality sleep is a good start!

My first episode was at around 15. I ignored it, because i didn't know what it was at the time and thought it would pass..got a lot worse over time. After some years it got to a point, where i had to seek help. it didn't get to suicide idealization, but i was at that point, where i didn't care if i got run over and would even appreciate not waking up in the morning. This and hard stress from studying caused immense anxiety. And i broke..got my first panic attack and landed in the ER (which happens to most that have their first attack). I developed a panic disorder, which coupled with what i already had. I got into therapy and luckily have some friends i trust to talk about it. I wont lie, it never will go away in most cases. But it can get so little, that you can actually live life and even enjoy things and you may even be able to prevent a full on episode. Meaning you will have bad days or a week or so, but not necessarily longer. Heck, some are even symptom free for years.
Also i have no "reason" to have this btw. i have an alright life, even at the time it wasn't bad. But i still got this anyway. Depression may have correlation with invironment, but anyone can get it.
If you see symptoms, please do something about it and don't ignore it. Chances are, it won't go away on its own or even get worse.

My room was and sometimes still is, my safe space. A place where I wouldn't need to face the real world. Some days, when I had to go to school, I really didn't feel like it. The classes was hard enough, but some of my classmates, they would bully me, making me feel more and more like garbage, and less like a human. There were even those dark days, where I thought of just ending it all☠️. Luckily, both for me and the people that I love and care for, I couldn't do it. I cowered away from that idea. It wasn't gonna solve anything. If it weren't for my friends and family, I'd be gone by now. But as long as I'm alive, and can smile, I will live on. from what I've heard from my sister(who was diagnosed with depression), depression usually also makes you have "mood swings", with the worse the depression the more time there is between switches and the bigger the difference... I also have/feel what I just talked about(in my experience it also lowers the "base point", meaning you don't gain as much from the "up" periods), and seeing as I got 9½/10(not sure about 2 so ½ point for that) I think it's probably true... at least in my family. so yeah.
...I should probably see a therapist or smth.

My mom went through severe postpartum depression so to her depression is only depression if it’s severe. Small things like isolation, irritation, constant exhaustion, and a hard time focusing are all completely minimal and barely enough to be labeled depression. It’s hard knowing that all but throwing myself into work are comparable to me and knowing I will never say I’m struggling with even the smallest amount of depression. On top of that I clearly am showing signs of severe anxiety, but since my brother’s girlfriend had worse symptoms that have been witnessed I can’t ever say I struggle with anxiety even though I’ve had more that five sever anxiety/panic attacks in a single month. I will probably never say I’m depressed or have anxiety because in my home, I was raised knowing other people can struggle with anxiety and other people can be depressed and we must be kind and understanding to them but you yourself never struggle with this. It is always either laziness or a bad habit.

I have been exactly like this since I lost myself in 2020 due to trauma, when I was 13. Every single day since then has felt like the same, nothing changes, my life ain't going any further. It's like my life has stopped functioning since that year. The brain fog never goes away and I'm drowned in a sea of lonliness and depression since then. My brain has rotted away. It's has deteriorated so badly i feel like I have lost a lot of subconscious functions of it since then. I have lost my inner introspection, as if no longer know who I'm anymore. I feel disconnected from my own self, thoughts and feelings, or you can say detached from reality. But I have never shared about these experiences with anyone cuz I don't have the guts to, nor i have money for therapy. I tried to heal myself but now I'm tired beyond limits that I don't even have the energy to analyse the causes of what I have became today.

A few years back i had depression. Stress about getting a job, constent nagging from dad, not beeing treated right, yelld at and tricked, got the blame for things i didn't do from my firt job, my dad calling me lazy and called me a liar when i tried to tell him how i felt. And just before starting my firt stressfull jobb i for the first time lost someone i deeply care about. I wanted to stay at moms full time but didn't wanna make dad sad. Even when i took one week away to visit grandmother dad kept texting me to look for a job and when it got time to go home i almost didn't get on the train.
I even was about to end it one day...
Even in my dreams i couldn't escape the misstreat and failure. I have 2 whole years worth of written down dreams where one could clearly see something wasn't right. However i didn't realize i wasn't well untill i saw the changes in my dreams. Less stress, less failure, "normal dreams" or no dreams at all. Just calm rest. Things started to go back no normal as soon as i got work and dad stopped his constant nagging.
Don't get me wrong. I love my dad and he would stick up for me if something would happend, he's proven that more than a few times. But he might not be the best pedagogical. I wan't to talk to him about this at some point and get him to understand he was hurting me, but i don't know where to start... And i'm afraid i might back out and start crying as soon as he talks back at me. He's a boss and used to not take crap. I love him, but i don't know where to start.

During grade 7- half way in grade 10 I had very intense depression. I’m usually a very carefree and chill person but those years I was someone else. I was always aggressive. Always empty. I felt meh and had no opinions. I hated leaving my home. I hated myself. Voices haunted me. I hurt myself. But I couldn’t say anything. I remember breaking down in my room on the floor listening to ‘Paralysed’ by NF because it described how I was. I was so scared I lost myself.
Here I am, boutta start grade 12, I feel like myself again. Ngl tho the end of year 10 I was at my peak of happiness but still, that’s prolly just cuz senior studies stress. My advice? GET SOMEONE TO TALK TO. PLEASE. Suffering alone stretches it out. If it’s a friend do it. Anyone. Please. I could have healed quicker if I reached out, but I decided to hide from my problems. I hope everyone is trying their best and is keeping themselves safe.

The WORST F$#^## thing to add on top of that is school work and exams 90% of which content I have NEVER used in the 'real world' out there!
Like, wouldn't it be better to let school just teach us the basics as a kid (e.g. numbers, letters, reading and writing) and then when the teenage years come provide support and guidance through those massive changing years? But no, they literally think it helps society to add up stress onto an already stressful period in a human's natural development.

honestly, the extremity of the above behaviors is what is important. I and many of my friends do the above things but non of my friends would be "depressed". I don't really talk to people but that doesn't mean im depressed i just enjoy my own company. My friend throws herself into studies but that's because she is goal oriented. My other friend stays inside all day long but she have one of the best social life (better than mine). They are the most lively, outgoing person. Ive noticed depressed teens never really hide what they are going through. If they feel like shit they will show that and it is very clear. During my dark times i always felt horrible about everying and i really acted out. I was a teen but once i leaned in on my people, helped others and focused on my goals i did much better. I am suspecting it might have been depression but who knows and who cares. My point is, how extreme is the behavior. It's ok to go through hard things, having someone to talk to is really beneficial. Lean in on your community, take up activities, make your life worth something. and most importantly, don't stare at the god-damn screen all day, take time to read books, walk ENJOY LIFE! you only live once.

There are many stages of life. Baby, toddler, child, tween, teenager, young adult, adult, middle aged, elderly. Many say you can only be depressed when you become an adult, others say when you are a teen and so on. The reality is you can become depressed at any age, cry at any age, be sad at any age. It is different but still difficult for everyone. Sometimes it’s harder to hide, other times the mask puts itself on. Teenage depression is, like any other, different. This is because, in the teenage, or even tween years, there is more criticism. More bullying, school stresses you out but you have to try hard otherwise you feel like a disgrace to your family, your friends become more and more criticising than when you first met them, everything is changing. You are trapped in a dark coffin, buried alive but wishing you could fit in, and be dead inside the coffin. No one understands. Your parents say it’s hormones, your friends leave you because they think you want attention. Your friends go on and on about their self diagnosed disorders, but you sit there knowing what it’s truly like, and when you even mention your feelings, people turn against you. When you say you have depression, people don’t believe you because your parents are nice, you have good friends and you have plenty reason to be happy, but one does not need a reason. It just comes. Everyone around you is great, but a scary monster at the same time. What is happening? What am I? What are they? What is this? What is life?

6:34 And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.
6:35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
6:36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
    Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
    2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
    Matthew 5:2-12
    King James Version
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
    Matthew 24:4-14
And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
24:8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
24:9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
24:10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
    Exodus 20
    King James Version
20 And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
    5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
    13 Thou shalt not kill.
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
    15 Thou shalt not steal.
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

As a 25 years old, all of the things you mentioned on this video brings me back memories of the old times, especially during my college years, thank you for making me going down the trip down memory lane.

This video really helps us!!! I'm a teenager and I'm still trying to figure out if I'm depressed or not. All i know is that i don't have close friends and feel that some people don't like me so much because I'm quiet and introvert. I feel alone and try to figure out why I don't have friends. But i keep trying to struggle with this thought and to focus on my future development. I try to recognize who i am, love myself and not compare myself with others. I know my worth and don't try to change myself, just improve it. And my grades are great. It's hard for me to talk to somebody about what i face, but i know my mom understands what's going on and will be with me.
I don't know if this is a teenager's thing or if I'm depressed.
I know that things will get better. At least, I hope so.
