I ran a few faucets a bit all night during a 25 degree hard freeze, and I had running water the next day. My well pump is running fine afew days after the freeze by running a bit of water all night for three nights!! It works.
This guy is great. I've watched many and he's only one of 2 so far that I've seen get it right and give the best advice. He didn't mention exterior faucets. Do y'all not need those dripping at a steady stream up north?
If you're house is old like the one I'm in just turn off the water and drain the pipes. Won't have water for a while but it's better then paying hundreds if not thousands in repairs and damages. Make sure all outside pipes are insulated to. And fallow what this video said to.
What about this time? 4-5 days straight of weather below freezing, and some days wind chill below 0°. Should I have my faucets slowly dripping water the entire time?
My water was off I’m not sure why but it’s not frozen. 10:27 pm and woke up at 2:15 am. How hot is your house ? I keep mine exactly on 75. I bumped it up to 77 when I woke up . My kitchen facet was just fine . I make sure my house is nice and warm toasty before I go to sleep to make sure if the water does happen to shut up by any means or if I forget to turn it on then least the house is keeping it warm
very confusing. He advised to let a small running water to prevent freezing but then also suggest to turn off the water supply and drain the pipe by opening the tap. So which one to do?
Pour salt down drain, not too much, but not too less, just enough to decrease the chances of freezing. Try not draining fatty substances down the drain and instead trash the fatty substances down the trash bin for disposal. I am not an experienced expert so do not simply heed my advice. Pay an expert with lab equipments and ask for experimental advice for such expert instead, such as Canadians and blue-collared people (real fellow blue Americans) of Northern states.

When you know a severe cold is coming, the tap furthest to the intake pipe for water you should turn it on as a trickle.
Do not listen to this lady. never run a space heater down in the basement alone unless you like your house burned down
Why not?

Because it could cause a fire.

You can use them but make sure to keep them away from flammables and don't leave them unattended.

If its an overnight freeze, take your shower, have bottle water, shut the water off and drain your pipes. Turn it back on the next day.

Yeah I’ve had mines dripping over here and somehow my pipes still get frozen it’s unbelievable how cold it is out here.
@@FuIfillment The water coming out of my faucet is ice cold. My pipes are so close to freezing.
@@Vaarik1 Aw man, hopefully it doesn’t.

We can turn the main water valve off but how do you drain your pipes?
Open the faucets in the house.

Good advice but he did not explain how leaving a faucet driping can cause scale to form on the faucet washer and may shorten the life.

Antifreeze dump and forget it
That might stop drain pipes from freezing but It will do nothing for supply pipes.
