I love this movie. When this movie was in the theaters in The Netherlands I watched it. And I knew a guy who had the car witch is used in the movie. After the movie he circled around the theatre multiple times and honked his horn just like the car in the movies did. The reactions of the people whom had just seen this film was very amazing...

Sounded very similar to a Boss 429 engine, a very deep and throaty exhaust note, and when it begins revving very high in the graveyard scene. The 429 had a hemispherical combustion chamber like the Chrysler Hemi motors, which gave it a very distinct sound.

In the days of practical effects, I have nothing but admiration for the crew for pulling off the stunt where the Car rolls over the two cop cars, and just drives off.

The most infamous muscle car EVER in my book. Not even Christine could match The Car! A car built to destroy; indestructible body with massive steel bumpers, semi truck horn, powerful V8, and cool tires. The closest I could ever get to this in a video game is in GTA SA with the Invincible Car cheat, or doing the indestructible car glitch along with modding in GTA V, both with a black muscle car. Such a mean beast. It also partly inspires me a certain extremely powerful race car for a series of crossover stories I'm planning to create, with it being based on this car and Speed Racer's Mach 5, called the Black Thunder (or Mach 7).
Fun Fact: the actor who played the sheriff that rides the motorcycle is James Brolin and the actor who played deputy Luke is Ronnie Cox Ronnie Cox had a cameo appearance in a direct-to-video sequel, "The Car: Road To Vengeance"
Loved this movie!! Not having an origin of how it came to be just adds to the mystique of the whole show!!! And that horn was terrifying by itself. My favorite part is where it wont go into the cemetery and goes nuts. Terrified me as a 6 year old.
The car was a 1971 Mark III Lincoln with a big block 460. Made by George Barris. It's matte black paint was pearl charcoal. With special one way amber window tint. It's horns at times spell the letter X in morse code. 4 total were made. All but one was destroyed during filming and is now in a private collection.

The 1.18 car is wrong though. It should be a matt/satin finish. For some reason, the model diecast is modelled in glossy black. It's just too shiny and isn't really true to the colour of the car in the film.

Today I got my 1;18 scale car from Auto World. A perfect replica that fits in my collection together with General Lee, KITT, Eleanor, Bullitt, Bandit Pontiac and....... Christine! Every time I look it brings a smile on my face 😁
I loved this movie so much when I was ten. I still think the "Car" looks pretty cool. I would drive it. If you really get a close look at it, it looks like they spent 40 bucks on the paint job with shaker cans.

Then when the credits scrolling at the very end of the movie you see the cars rear tires Traveling through a city it's not a desert... look closely real tires of THE CAR And at last few seconds you'll hear that cars Horn Blair it is still ALIVE !!!! This was one off the scariest films when I was a wee boy in the early 80s , someone up here stored one where the granary building used to be on South Street up here in glasgow and it was parked right at the front , it was a cool but evil looking at same time

I first heard about this awesome B-movie in the late 1990s (1998 to be precise) when I read a book on movie monsters in my high school library. Due to the film not having any VHS release, I had to wait until one night in 2003 the movie came on the graveyard shift on some free-to-air TV station (about a couple years later it hit cable TV movie station rotation. When I learnt that a DVD was being released, I bought it as soon as it appeared... The Car seems a little hokey for a regular horror flick but as an action thriller with horror elements in it, it absolutely rules its subgenre of horror. A great film for its time and still badass today.

I first heard about this awesome B-movie in the late 1990s (1998 to be precise) when I read a book on movie monsters in my high school library.
Due to the film not having any VHS release, I had to wait until one night in 2003 the movie came on the graveyard shift on some free-to-air TV station (about a couple years later it hit cable TV movie station rotation.
When I learnt that a DVD was being released, I bought it as soon as it appeared...
The Car seems a little hokey for a regular horror flick but as an action thriller with horror elements in it, it absolutely rules its subgenre of horror.
A great film for its time and still badass today.
I ran home at night looking behind me after the movie.
