@@thelaughingrouge I don't think it is, but I don't know either. The part 2 game is a 16 bit style version of the same game with faster day night transitions and a better translation and that is about it.
Honestly I'm so happy that save points are soft saves instead of hard saves-- as in rather than losing all your progress since your last save, it saves on death instead, and you keep your progress and just basically transports you.
I can't believe how many of these high quality fan projects there are. What a time to be alive.

There's punishment and there's BS. Stopwatch generally freezes all enemies on the screen, that one is either niche or useless.

@@ClearComplexity Personally I've never liked the stopwatch. It costed too many hearts for not long enough of a payoff and it doesn't work on bosses.
But in revamped there's no point in using it at all. The cross is so busted in comparison.
JARED: "So, I wanna get back to a save point, so I can equip that."
ENCHANTED TRADER: "Hey Jared, a save point is below this room!"
JARED: "But also, I wanna keep looking what's down..."
ENCHANTED TRADER: "You just gonna ignore me, huh?"

well down is where the save point is. the issue was that he ignored that and fought the bone dragon instead
He's not exactly the brightest player. He just outright skipped over the first HP up potion in plain sight without even trying to figure out if it was possible to get it. And then when he learned how to crouch walk 5 minutes later he completely forgot that potion even existed.
@@thenonexistinghero And he was right to do so. You need a slide ability for that one. You can't crouch walk under one tile gaps.
@@FoxNamedLuke He wasn't right to do so. He did of stupidity, not because he knew he couldn't get it. He didn't even try to get it. Any sensible gamer would try to see if you can crouch, crawl, slide, etc the moment he sees it. It's ridiculous how someone who grew up playing NES games does not have that kind of common sense.
The problem isn't that he didn't get it, the problem is that he didn't even try to get it.

Always have to watch anything CastleVania that Jared plays - i absolutely love his AoS and DoS playthroughs. Still hoping for a Portrait of Ruin playthough at some point!

There's also a ReVamped 2 of CV2 Simon's Quest. There are a ton of CV fan games, also mods like Doom 2's Simon's Destiny. The Web Archive (The Wayback Machine) has a big collection of 'em.

Heck YEAH.!! I am here for it!!! I hope this continues for other titles in the series. Being able to explore the entire castle without a time limit is my favorite way to play Castlevania. Plus this looks amazing.
Zelda 2 Remastered was one of my favorite playthroughs on this channel in recent memory, so heck yeah I'm excited for this game, and more in the future if you feel like it!

This isn't a romhack at all. It's a fanmade remake.
I'm so used to Simon being deathly allergic to water that seeing him just walking around underwater is kinda cursed.
5:12 I have yet to play Symphony of the Night as well. In a way, this is almost more appropriate since it's Castlevania 1, so you're starting at the start. :)

There have a been a lot of great fan created Castlevania games but this one is the only one I've been repeatedly playing and plan to continue until I've completed it. I have very few criticisms of the game and just like any good Castlevania game, I can get horribly frustrated and then be compelled to come back and try again. The ethos of Castlevania has been honored here. Just a wonderful game. I hope this same dev attempts other re-imaginings of Castlevania. I'd also love to port this to SNES!
Those bouncing slimes remind me of Jared playing the Zelda 2 Hoverbat game. I should rewatch that.
The flying eyeballs also make an appearance in Zelda II.
Slimes are in a lot of games, I guess - most famously, Dragon Quest. (Though I guess they don't bounce in Dragon Quest.)
Between this and Castlevania Chronicles III, Castlevania fans are eating pretty well so far this year.
Also an entire playthrough would be cool.
The first room inside had a slide under area with life. This is an interesting game. (If you like this, you should try Symphony of the Night at some point, I think you'd enjoy it.)

I actually bought Metroid Prime for my Switch a little over a week ago to play on my vacation, and it's an awesome game. I can't believe I missed out on it so long, but there are so many Metroidvania games I need to play, the list is endless.

This is pretty cool. It definitely seems to do away with most of the issues that I have with the official metroidvania styled Castlevanias.
If this is doing what I think it's doing, based on how the slide turned out the "double jump" is gonna crib Symphony of the Night and use Richter's uppercut kick and I'm totally ok with that. :)
I think the two-hour JupiterClimb video that showed up in my feed last night is of this game, but I didn't watch it yet because it was two hours, so I don't officially know the item progression ahead of time, just guessing based on my SOTN knowledge.

Symphony of the Night is the only Castlevania game I ever actually enjoyed, so yeah, should check that out.

I agree, play through the whole game. Seems short enough to be worth 5-6 good episodes.
I loved this game. I did a basic ending and a 100% ending completion. Took me only a couple days to do so, but man, Simon needed a rebooted adventure and I think this does it justice.
As someone that loves both Symphony of the Night and the OG Castlevania, this looks awesome. 👍
This looks awesome! Never been a big Castlevania guy with the original games but after recently playing Symphony of the Night on my Xbox I’ve been hooked on the Metroidvanias. Definitely gonna try this myself so I can finally say that I beat Castlevania 1. 😂

Don't feel bad, Jared. I've also never played Symphony of the Night. The only Castlevania I've ever really played was Harmony of Despair. I enjoyed it, but it's the only one I played - and it was an arcade game, that I played alone, a lot.

You streamed the original Castlevania? I need to find that. A word of note for the stopwatch, in the Metroidvania titles, stopwatches do not freeze enemies, they only slow enemies down.
Just beat the original yesterday while for some reason Metroid is kicking my butt😂😂😂
except Circle of the Moon. I distinctly remember that one freezing enemies
@@silverlight6074 Never used it that much in that game. I mostly use the cross, it's so powerful. What I do remember is that it still doesn't freeze the bigger, stronger enemies in the game; the ones you'd actually want to use a stopwatch on. It only slowed the bigger ones down at best.

Stopwatch effect is influenced by enemy level in metroidvanias

I've tried this game out before watching the video, reached that thing and I've instantly had enough.
I died the first several attempts too. The early game is much more difficult since you have less health and fewer hearts. 🪱🪓🦇
This would have been a cool Revampe for Super Castlevania but then its hard to improve of perfection
