@@JasonScalici There is not. There’s not much music in the game itself, and music/sound on the NES is something I don’t know all that much about setting up. That’s the main reason I made a setting to disable music, so that you can play your own music but still have the sound effects intact.
The key doors don't seem meaningful. Could they lead to item rooms or shops, kinda like Binding of Issac? Kinda set up like the heart container or the red potion secret rooms?
@@Shirodragoon Keys are simply room skips. You can leave without defeating the enemies. The more keys you have, the more likely a locked door will appear. Useful for nasty enemy encounters!
I will never not get tired of watching Jared play Legend of Zelda romhacks and randomizers. The entertainment value is just too great. Jared and randomizers are the equivalent of peanutbutter and jelly. They just go together.
@@edvance1030 for what I understand I think so yes and it become harder and harder the higher he goes. Those developing this are still in the early phase so it can improve overtime.
"What did that do?" The key is kinda obvious. If you enter a room with a locked door, you can escape that room by unlocking the door and you won't have to kill all the enemies.
room 69 full of balls 💀 I commend the idea, but as Jared mentioned, it's kinda mindless. There're not many decisions to make other than "stay alive, good luck" I remember there is an indie game of a lizard that is closer to this idea. It's a clone of binding of isaac, but I find it more similar to the original zelda
Jared + Zelda is a tried and true combination. Still hoping we might eventually get Majora's Mask Randomized. (I know Jared said he didn't want to do it when he started OOT Randomized, but we need to complete the cycle! And let's face it, we love to see him suffer hehe.)
21:09 Well, I mean, the Zelda Classic team was able to add a bunch, like the Flippers, the Hammer, the spells from OoT, Magic Containers, Heart Pieces, and even the Hookshot
Fascinating. If the different doors don't have different values though, then having different directions is effectively pointless. Overall, looks like a lot of fun.
That's basically my issue with it. It's a nice idea, but sorta lacking in execution. It's just random room after random room with random rewards. Doesn't matter which direction you go into, you can probably just go back through the same door every time. Key doors do seem to have some more value, but other than that it's pretty much just completely random. Needs a few different mechanics to make it more interesting. Like an indication for what kind of room is coming up or being able to pick a reward. Was actually hoping for something inspired by Lufia 2's Ancient Dungeon where you just go downstairs and the floors are randomized. Then you'll have to explore the next floor to find the next staircase. Optionally you can also choose to explore the entire floor or to descend directly (of course giving this kind of choice also only works if searching the rest of the floor also poses some actual risks).
I'm enjoying this! What a fun concept, though I think it could benefit from being made from scratch rather than a direct rom hack. You could include items from later Zelda games, have stronger enemies later on, and make other changes and additions like that. But obviously that'd be a lot more work, so I can understand it being a rom hack. Maybe they'll make a more in-depth version later on. Just a thought.
Really enjoyed this one. That said, it's entirely possible the door you exit from doesn't matter. They may always lead to the same "next" room as determined by the seed. At the very least that's probably true for boss rooms.
Or even better, if you wanna play some randomized Zelda stuff, download "Zelda Classic" and the Quest "Randomizer Omega". It's not about a randomized dungeon layout, but a randomized "1st Quest" mixed with all sorts of quests and overworlds and many MANY weapons and stuff to equip.
This would be way more interesting if A) It had variety in music every palette swap and B) Each door had some kind of reward/difficulty indicator so you had to make an active choice rather than random.
Pretty sure "Zelda dungeons, but roguelike", was the inspiration for Binding of Isaac. Great game btw - good for unwinding, probably not great for streaming though.
I really like the idea of a single massive randomly generated dungeon with all the items, bosses, and even Ganon, but I'd prefer the dungeon be static once generated. Maybe that'd actually be harder to design than this, and I guess it couldn't be potentially infinite. Still, I think it'd be cool.
My guess for the key is that you can use it to open doors without killing everything Might be useful to conserve resources, but you'll risk losing an item
Ain't gonna lie. I've never watched one of your videos, Jared. However, I've heard a lot of good things about you as both an entertainer and a person, and I'm happy to see that you're still out here on the digital wasteland of _RUclips,_ doin' your thing. (:
You might already be aware of this. But Ocarina of Time got a sick romhack recently called Ultimate Trials. you mentioning "zelda but roguelite" reminded me of the romhack, for a good reason.
I love the idea of this, but I feel like the exploration element is necessary for a good roguelike and a good Zelda game. It should be separated into floors with connected rooms and staircase that needs to be found to bring you to the next floor.
interesting. Honestly as long as the game is interesting I'll watch. But hey, would you consider playing final fantasy six, the mod: "brave new world"? Not to say you're reaching for ideas- this is great. But if you had no other title in mind, I think you and the viewers would love to see it.
It is fundamentally impossible for Jared to figure out what the locked doors do without looking it up (or anyone else who's played Zelda 1 before, for that matter).
I'm guessing the keys let you skip rooms? You wouldn't need to get rid of all enemies for the doors to open, you could just open it yourself anytime. Basically, you keep them until you absolutely need to escape a room without beating all the enemies in it.
Gods, the Bubbles in those pink rooms are like what I see when I have a migraine, oooow! O.O *ahem* Other than that, this looks interesting. Know what'd be really interesting to see is a Zelda 2 roguelike; I feel like that has some possibilities. :O
For awhile and not sure if Jared noticed that a "Boss" was appearing every 14th room until said pattern begin to break with N⁰ 4 in Rm. 55, then I sort of lost track as I watched. I like the endless run type of concept, however, after 100 rooms the difficulty was rather easy except for maybe a random room or two. If in the next video tomorrow that doesn't begin to spike upwards like by having some Wizzrobes appearing and whatnot it's gonna get rather stale fairly quickly unfortunately.
This could definitely be improved though randomly generated dungeon maps with bombable walls, pushable blocks, etc. Then you beat the boss and move to the next floor with a new dungeon map.
Hey, thanks for checking out my romhack! Looks like you had fun. Looking forward to watching more! Happy to answer any questions you may have.
Thank you for making it!
Haven't tried it but is there an option for random cycling of music or maybe every 15 or so rooms the music switches?
@@JasonScalici There is not. There’s not much music in the game itself, and music/sound on the NES is something I don’t know all that much about setting up. That’s the main reason I made a setting to disable music, so that you can play your own music but still have the sound effects intact.

Jared: How many different ways can I play Zelda 1 on this channel?
Me: Yes.
I will never not get tired of watching Jared play Legend of Zelda romhacks and randomizers. The entertainment value is just too great. Jared and randomizers are the equivalent of peanutbutter and jelly. They just go together.
I will never tire of watching you play roguelites / randomizers of LOZ games.
Can't wait for Jared to struggle in a room for just 10 arrows.
The 10 arrow meme will live on forever! 😂
Is this endless?
@@edvance1030 for what I understand I think so yes and it become harder and harder the higher he goes. Those developing this are still in the early phase so it can improve overtime.
sadly arrows in this game are rupies
@@EscoNitzthen it’s 10 arrowrupies
Oof. This entire game taking place in dungeons means nothing but the dungeon music on loop.
When you begin a run on this, you get the option of having the dungeon music or the overworld music. Jared just didn't get to that lol
We've survived Hydlide, this is cake.
@@Leron... IDK, man... Hydlide's theme at least has some pep to it. The dungeon music seems like it's trying to put me to sleep
It would be neat if they had a way to switch it up every palette swap change, maybe throw in some remixes of the dungeon theme as a bonus.
Well there's always the option of muting the game and putting on some of your own music.
18:00 - You had 70 rupees in room 69. So you could have shot one arrow and then you would have had 69 rupees in room 69, which is double -rainbow- 69!
He didn’t want a copyright strike from ninja sex party for having 6969

Aha I remember that game! It was the 1 of my first games I played when I started streaming! It is called A Wizards Lizard!
Yeah, a roguelike should be about making decisions. This is just a gauntlet. Which is a fun game mode, but it's not the same thing.
Classic Zelda, but roguelike? Yes please!
I second this.
I third this
I forth this!
I fifth this‽
Sixth!
I think the keys might just be room skips. When you see a locked door, you can skip the room if you have a key.
That’s what I was thinking too until the second key got an item
NOOO! The chocolate chip! Why’d you have to kill it? It was just trying to be a chocolate chip!
Are you sure that was a chocolate chip?
The Legend of Zelda is childhood. I love to see my childhood molded into something different keep this series up, you must get all the items!
the key lets you skip a fight every once in a while by the look of it, you can just exit the room rather than fight the enemies
Great if you get a room full of Blue Wizrobes and Blue Darknuts
I can't tell you how many times I have cleared out a room, or just killed the last enemy on a screen, and of COURSE the watch drops...
My man, your channel has been on fire lately! Classic remixes of FF, Castlevania, Zelda II, and now this. Love it!
3:45 if Jared would hurry up and play Symphony of the Night already, he'd know that the proper term for this is "this dungeon is a creature of chaos."
"It may take many incarnations."

"14th room has the boss"
I will not be satisfied until every way to play Zelda one is demonstrated and archived on this channel!
One thing I can say, it's usually in your best interest to never go down. Old men rooms never spawn when entering from the top
So Zelda but with the Ancient Cave of Lufia feel? Awesome.
It really needs new Zelda items to mimic the Iris treasures
@@pharmcat8484 I feel like that would be simple enough to implement with the Triforce pieces.
It's not the Guardian Legend but this is pretty cool.

I wish Jared would play the Guardian Legend.
"All the ways!"
