My name is Abbie Emmons I teach writers how to make their stories matter by harnessing the power and psychology of storytelling, transforming their ideas into a masterpiece, and creating a lifestyle that makes their author dreams come true.
Story isn’t about “what happens” - it’s about how what happens affects and transforms the characters. I believe that there is an exact science (a recipe, if you will) behind a perfect story. And if you know what ingredients you need, you can create your own perfect story with ease and confidence. That’s what we talk about every week on this channel - and if it’s something you’re into, be sure to subscribe and join this community!
It's 2 am. After a long day of work I am in my bed with a cup of blueberry tea, headphones on, lights off. This feeling is majestic.
i love blueberry tea sm ❤❤❤
Would you mind if I use these words in my book, I'll modify it a little bit?
@@roronoazoro19624 of course you can! I'm glad to help you hehe 🤭
I wanna do that too lol
Oh, this is brilliant! It's 3am, and I have a deadline in 5 hours. Good luck everyone! It feels like we're all writing here together.
I love these sprints because the breaks are such a good reminder for me to take care of myself and step back from my hyperfixation. It also helps me sit down and put pen to paper instead of things just brewing in my head indefinitely. Thank you!
Granted, it would be more helpful if my friends weren't bugging me for attention. But I'm still taking the win. :]
I love how the comment section is filled with positivity and good vibes. Everyone is struggling here but we're all together here, safe. This feels like one well-knit family :))
Good Wishes to all, May you all make it big!
I am currently working on a dark fantasy novel at the moment
Good Luck!!! @unicorntomboy9736
Oh my gosh!! Thank you so much for this, Abbie! My exams are literally ending tomorrow, and I'm planning on starting to write a dark fantasy kinda novel.. Keep inspiring!
Good luck with your exams!
@@princessthyemis Thanks so much!!
@@ojaswita You started writing?
@@just_laugh99 Yes, I have!! The trope kinda goes as friends-enemies-lovers, with a dark academia aesthetic! :DD
How did it go??
I used to listen to the entire thing with no ads. Today I can't go five minutes without an ad. Im going to have to find something else and that makes me sad. I loved this one.
I second this. These really work and it's my go-to for when I'm writing. But it's hard to stay focused in a sprinting session when there are ads popping up every few minutes all of the sudden.
I'm writing Gothic high fantasy, and every day I find ambience and music to set the mood. This one is perfect, thanks!
@@gforce1754 I haven't yet read Gormenghast, but it's on the list. I've heard the prose is just as you say: quite purple. A lot of Gothic isn't too bad, but if it's anything like Maturin's Melmoth the Wanderer, it'd be nigh unreadable. Some Victorian writers seemed like they wanted to be half poet-playwrights, and half novelists.
Nevertheless, I distinguish between the prose and the story elements. Melmoth was very difficult to read, but the plot and worldbuilding buried under the prose has easily been the most inspiring to me of any Gothic writing. Perhaps Gormenghast has a similar dynamic.
Abbie I’m writing the first draft of a witchy story and this has been helping tame my ADHD and keeping me focused. Just handwrote 536 words during one 20 minute sprint 🎉 thank you!!
I’d go insane for a pirate/mermaid themed writing sprint playlist… just saying 😘 love these so much!!!
Same
All of these are so awesome. They really help me get in the creative flow, and keep me there for longer. How it switches from music to just ambient sounds, it just gets me so immersed.
If you see this thank you for being awesome!
I love that this video includes sprints because sprinting has been the only way I've been getting any work done recently! And I love the aesthetic. Thank you so much for uploading!
Two days, and two of these immersive writing sessions later, I have written about 3,600 words. Thank you again, Abbie 😂
I love using this to keep my kids on track during their schoolwork.
reached 10,000 words on my final draft of my fantasy book. This video has been so peaceful to write away to.
I didn't realize how much I needed this. Even with interruptions from my kids, I managed to write seven pages! I just discovered you a few days ago and I've watched so many videos! You are amazing!
I just gave your advice a try with this video. No distractions during the sprints. Perfect music and sounds.
Wow, 400 words it the first sprint and similar results in the second. I'm probably slow compared to others, but this was a milestone maker to me. I calculate that I can finish my first novel in about 3 months at this rate.
Thanks, Abbie.
I get distracted too easily. I only managed 253 words in the first sprint.
Thank you so much for this, Abbie. This puts me in the mood to write.
It's 5 pm on a Saturday after a heck of along run through errands and work. But here we are. Coffee in one hand and my mystery, thriller in the other. This playlist is so amazing and it helps me focus a lot better.
I've never used one of these sorts of videos when writing before, but I really enjoyed this one and found it super helpful. I've been stuck in my Magical Realism novella recently, hit with some hard writer's block and not sure how to get out of it, but I've been pushing through it as best I can, because I know I need to create a habit of writing frequently and getting past my 'Scrap all of it! It's garbage!' mentality. This video definitely got me in the right headspace for working on my story, so thanks.
I'm glad I found this! It fits both of my MCs. I was swapping playlists for the two of them, but this works for both. And bonus sprint timer!
Sprint one: 425 words
Sprint two: Nothing, I mostly did some world building ^^
Sprint three: 239 words
Sprint four: 359 words
Total: 1023 words
I'm quite proud of myself!!
So I'm not really sure if that was intended use, but I listened relentlessly this part, over and over, while translating the most heartbreaking and shattering experiences for the characters, the death of one of the very-very main ones and the recoil and shock and grief of others. And now I'm listening to it while they're going through the pain and loneliness and hollowness and the idea that this person is no longer there and won't ever be again. It hurts so much, but this writing session is helping me tremendously - not only to pace myself, but also as an anchor, so I my own emotions wouldn't get that much in the way. Thank you.
I love these writing sessions. I recently discovered them and I'm using them every day to plot my novel. It really helps me to focus, it's amazing.
How about a writing session on a ship? With maybe one in the ship's cabin, one on the deck, one in the crow's nest… I picture the sound of waves, maybe a little rain, maybe creaking wood, howling wood and crackling candles. I'd absolutely love it!
just in the middle of writing and this video was uploaded. Not had much time to write because of my exams they’ve consumed most of my time. Abbie, thank you so much

I’ve been experiencing some writers block lately, and this has really helped to give me inspiration.
@@whitinggraham4459 I would rather not pay someone to do my work for me.

these work like a charm!!!!!!!!!!
I have read the entire Wheel of Time saga, the fourteen books, with this video as a background music. I can't thank you enough for creating this. I loved the story and I will cherish it forever. For me this will be its unofficial soundtrack and I will comeback to listen it whenever I feel like going back into the pattern to evoke all these memories that now I hold dear to my heart 💖
It took me a minute to figure out I was supposed to be doing the writing. I thought I'd be watching someone write in a dark fantasy castle on a stormy night. I've never seen anything like this before I love it.
25:46 Thank you, truly!! I have been stuck for a while, and this Writing Session have been inspiring. I have now finished the rough premise of my story.
Must sleep now. I will come back later, thank you.
Thanks Abbie, this is just the playlist I was looking for to go with a scene I'm writing. Helps me out a lot. Love your videos!
This is so well made, love the music choice, the rain, crows. Everything cleverly organized. Thanks Abbie!
The best writing music I've ever found! Movie-like immersion with no ads or distractions
So bummed there are ads now, really pulls me out of my flow
I love the concept of this. It's so much more helpful than the complete silence during the writing sessions you regulary do.
Please do that more often, with other 'settings'! I'd really appreciate that.
This is seducing me into wanting to write my vampire novel instead of working on my technical writing homework. I'm gonna finish this and listen to this music
QUEEN IM SO OBSESSED WITH THESE!! I’m finishing my book called IntuWitchin out next January and these immersive sessions are the best medicine thank you so much!!
Beautiful. Historical, Olden Times, Architecture, High Design.
757 words during the first sprint, this helps me write and gets me out of my writers block, keep up the good work:) 10/10
I got the email about your new video, and as soon as I saw the title I clicked faster than ever! These immersive writing sessions are so useful and keep me on track like nothing before. Thanks for the video!
I am writing a dark fantasy that I have struggled to start. However, with this immersive excersise I am getting a start and going in a completely new direction than what I expected. Thank you for sharing this
This is so great. I love the mood and the fact that there is no ads. Thank you so much. Been listening everyday while editing my project.
These playlists have really been inspiring. My brain is overfull of ideas that, for once, I feel I can get down on paper! I self-published my first novel in 2018 and I'm working on a different book (series?) now that I want to actually get an editor and an agent for, to publish through a publishing house, but I'm so, so scared. But these playlists at least make it easier for me to get my ideas out so that I have something to bring to the world!
These are literally amazing! I cant count how many times Ive listened to this.
PLEASE tell me you are planning on making more!
I am in love :3
This is the sort of thing I use. I generally have 3 videos running - ambient music to fit the scene/mood, background weather effects, usually a storm or blizzard, and a ticking grandfather clock on a low volume to put myself into some kind of hypnosis and prime my brain to write.
I would love more videos like this! This helped me so much! I wrote 3000 words in a few days using this video!
I have this session bookmarked to the same folder as my other NaNoWriMo bookmarks, so I can use it whenever I need to just focus on the words instead of getting distracted by endless research. Thank you so much for making these, they've made a huge difference for my writing.
These immersive writing sessions are so cool. Thank you for putting them together and sharing for other writers like me to enjoy.
I use to put some dark ambient video (normally +8 hours) to listen to while I write. It always works! Thanks for that, Abbie!
Thank you. This is absolutely brilliant. I am listening while at work but had to pick up my phone and give praise. Thank you
"It was a dark and stormy night..." is always a great story start! Love this!
Holy crap!! Please make more of these. I'm in love.
omg this is so perfect and it includes breaks!! honestly, the best study/writing session EVER MADE
This is really great Abbie, thank you so much. I got so much writing done with this in the background.
Lmao it’s 12:51AM and I have a story about my trauma due in 5 hours 🤩 wish me luck folks
I'm using this to study for my law exam.. I know that's not what it was meant for, but at least it's making it more interesting ahah
Thank you a bunch! I'll check out your channel when I'm done with this, cause I'll be needing more these days ;-;
42:00 around this part of the video as I read the emotional climax of _The Sword of Kaigen_ is perfect. It wasn't planned at all, just fortunate timing.
Wow, I have progressed so much on my writig with this video. I'll accept more!
I just found this channel. While I am doing a final rewrite, this wonderful video integrated with the writing method is a most welcome part of the day.
I can't believe how much writing I managed to accomplish with this! I will definitely be using this more often.
THANK YOU!!! 💜💻📓📜✒
This really helped me work today. Thank You!
Girl, how did you know I needed this? Lol. I'm working on a dark fantasy for Camp NaNo.
Love this. This works so well for writing, and anything that needs concentration, really. Or just a sense of peace. I feel so relaxed. Thank you.
I love this! Ive never tried something like these sprints before, but it helped so much. My new routine includes these.
Wow so helpful! Using the pomodoro technique is so helpful for me! And to get one from you has just made my day :)
Thank you, Abbie!! As a fantasy writer I appreciate something like this to listen to.
Thank you so much for this, Abbie!! These playlists as well as your other videos have helped me improve my novel immensely! Thanks to you, I've come farther than ever before in my writing journey. I appreciate you so much for that!
i loved this! thank you for helping me write my story with your creative writing session! i look forward to your other videos. i'm trying to become an author to a fantasy novel book series, i'm only on my first book and anyway my brain has felt blocked lately and this video was like draining the blockage. its just what i needed to motivate my writing into action and to immerse ideas from my own creative mind.
Just got an insane brainstorming session while listening to this, thank you so much Abbie!!
I just mentioned the Pomodoro technique in my most recent video as a tip for fighting writer's block and getting unstuck. Love it!
This is such a great playlist, Abbie! Thanks for compiling all of the dark academia vibes I needed for my story right now.🕯🏰🕯
1:18 I would recognise the first note of Ivory Towers anywhere. It was the running theme song for my D&D campaign. Nostalgia.
Since yesterday your playlists have helped me to finally planning my book outline.
I love these immersion sessions. Can't wait until you put up new ones. Thank you!
This is helping with describing otherwise boring underground caverns for half a chapter. Thanks!
I used this tonight to write a tough essay, haha! This format has helped me with all sorts of writing. Thank you!
This is lovely! Such a help for getting me motivated! If you ever get the chance- because I’m sure you’re super busy- I’m writing an Ottoman Turkish themed dark fairytale fantasy novel, and I’d love a themed Pomodoro. But that’s ludicrously specific, and I wouldn’t blame you for not doing one!
dark fantasy writer here. Love this so much. Thanks!
I'm so happy that this appeared on my RUclips homepage! This has helped me a lot! Thank you, Abbie!
Always wondering where you find all this amazing songs. They really help me to work on my stories or to study for my exams so a big thank you to you!!!!
Thank you so much for this! This has been helping me draft out the layouts of webcomic panels.
I love this for writing but also revision for exams, its amazing. Thank you
I absolutely love this one! Definitely the vibe that I love writing to.
These are so great for me to become engrossed in my work! And I'm not even writing! I'm drawing :-) thank you, Abbie :-)
oh..thank you thank you. Added to my ever growing playlist for writing
Fantastic ambience. I got a lot of progress done in my current WIP.
Incidentally, I accidentally arranged your writing sessions into something resembling a story on their own. Such as this one following the Enchanted Forest one, stumbling across the castle after wandering the forest.
thank you Abbie - I got my last chapter written and did some tidying up of the rest of my story - the time went really quickly and I love the breaks because I can give the dogs a treat or do some FB scrolling.
this is absolutely amazing, happy i've come across. huuge thank you!
I did such good work today!!! Thank you Abbie! These immersive writing sessions are a god send 🩷
This is absolutely perfect for the dark fantasy story I'm writing. Thank you so much!
Hi, Abbie, I love these writing sessions. And your videos help me so much. This writing session is just what I needed to start writing my first fantasy novel, which is called Tanzafiria. Thank you so much☺️ Also, I read "100 days of sunlight" and I really love it. It's now one of my all time favourite books and I will definitely read it again.
16:50 to 20:50 made me write this, oh and on speed 0,75
I stared at the elegantly carved door, a perfect combination between wood and metal, clashing in with each other, they look like a brutal hurricane that would mercilessly swipe a land off the map, twirling and spinning in it's own world of chaos, inviting everyone to a dance with death.
The door was decorated with lavenders lazily hanging from thick vines that surrounded it on both sides, one of which, was my desire to visit.
Suddenly, I heard something, a voice, muffled yet clear, it came form behind the door, an enchanting voice sang a beautiful melody, one I couldn't ignore, it sprouted further to me, tugging on all my senses.
Whatever was lurking in there was pulling me in, to look for it, to find it.
Purple smoke taking more of the ground I stood on, everything slowly vanishing, leaving my vision, leaving my mind. As I make my way to it, getting closer and closer, breathing in the poisoned air that flew my way, leading me to whatever fate it wished me, to whatever destiny.
I stood there, facing the door, not a care of my past world, not a care if I'll find my way home, or if I'll even return from this.
I raised my hand, trying to touch it, but I was shaking, I was hesitant, I was scared, my body wouldn't listen to my mind and I was only stuck in between, so I pulled back and backed away, I started to breath heavily, gasping for any clean air that would clear my lungs of this poison that I breathed.
I turned around and began to run, I didn't see where I was headed, I didn't care where I was headed, I just wanted to get away from it, to get as far as possible from this trap I was lured in.
Suddenly, my breath hitched, terror ran like blood through my veins as I saw it again, but it was different, it was the same door I saw before but just, different, like a side of it I've never seen, even the purple smoke duplicated, taking more room, making the door itself barely visible.
At once, my breath stopped in my throat, it's back, the voice, the haunting melody, are back, and it sounded different too, this time, louder and clearer, as if the singer's breath was flowing like a cold breeze, on my neck, as if their hands lightly pated my back, as if they were right behind me.
The melody stopped, I closed my eyes, took a breath, and turned.
(I might continue this if I got ideas)
aaa i have so many questions, i would love to see more! very nice writing.
this is amazing - and I'm not even a fantasy writer by any means.
This is awesome, Abbie ^^ I am writing a House of the Dragon fanfic and needed some music to listen to while setting the right ambience for it - I found this and it's helping me get in the right mood for it ^^ Thanks again, sweetie :)
I am a a fantasy and paranormal romance writer. I saw this and it surprised me! Thank you, Abbie! I need this music for my current book titled The Moon Goddess and Her Mate, because the chapter I write is about the wrath of the Goddess Avtexia aka the Sun Goddess to her daughter, Goddess Atvertha.
Thank you for uploaded the great music!
I used this for writing. Great session too, thank you!
im writing the second book in my fantasy-with-a-romantic-subplot series. no the first book has not been published yet (as of today). i'm aiming to get it out around april-june, once i'm nearly completed with book 2. i'll try and keep you updated if you're interested. thanks Abbie, i'm a new subscriber, and i already love your playlists! keep going!
I love this so much. Getting right into things!
I'm not even writing fantasy, but this was the perfect soundtrack to writing my All Is Lost scene. So sad and hopeless.
I have been experiencing writers block of late and am a slow writer but this really helps
