Vermont based songstress Anais Mitchell and fellow singer-songwriter Jefferson Hamer, recently joined us here at The Crypt. Featuring sparse production, the harmonic melding of Mitchell and Hamer's warm vocals and guitar strings is nothing short of sublime.
The duo's recent co-arranged collaboration, 'Child Ballads' was born from a mutual love of British folk cannon, established by American scholar and folklorist Francis James Child in the late 1800s. The whisky collection of folk songs, was released back in February, to critical acclaim.

Anais Mitchell is a great performer with a beautiful voice, but in my opinion Jefferson Hamer lifts her performances even higher. A rarely heard pairing of the male and female voice, redefining the term "joined from the hip".

This is most excellent. They couldn't sound anything but good, but the guitars are picked up so clean and bright it just drives an extra musicality to it that more instruments or fancier production would not. Voices are wonderful together, lyrics convey desperation and strength and Aniais Mitchell is...*ahem*...very appealing.
