I have had the pleasure of spending time with a lot of these drivers when I was covering the Retro Rallycross for Tony Lynch in his MR2, what an AMAZING sport and what great people to spend time with..
i love rallycross and live is unbelievable it s such a shame that all races are done down south, i live in manchester and would be great to have some races here in the north
Great fun to hear my dad Colin Howard commentating - John Welch & he built on the cars that Martin Schanke (a real gentleman and a man I have known since childhood!) developed and in the early 80s 2.4secs to 60 was on the cards. So many great people - Gary Bland, Colin Parry-Williams, Hans Te Pas - go and look these guys up, not just on RUclips!
Ford hold a massive debt of gratitude to to the great Stuart Turner, I only ever bought Fords for the next 50 years because of the lasting influence of the Ford image.
31:45, Alright.! Now we're talking. I was waiting for that. 👏 That's the reality. Which is why I do RC racing. Lots of competitive pleasure, less the mental pain and financial strain.. All the best fellas! 😏 👍
Sadly I can't find anything at all about the 3 litre 4WD Ford Capris which were in Rallycross at the end of the 60s or early 70s. I remember them saying that they did 4 miles to the gallon!
My Dad used to take me to watch Rallycross when it first started, that Lotus Europa that you can see when John Taylor starts to speak was later covered in Velvetex, basically gave the car a velvet ,furry kind of finish, which amazingly (not) didn't catch on,I think the driver was Paul somebody. I still remember John Taylor racing that Volvo, not the most outlandish racing car I've seen,I used to know someone who aurocrossed an Austin Westminster!! I remember seeing Graham Hill ,Roger Clark and Paddy Hopkirk. We used to watch the club events as well, even without the big names it was always entertaining.
@@dave8204 what do you think to today's offerings. Like wrc the cars are quick and hi tech but are completely void of any soul or character and are therefore, to me, boring
@@paulnutter1713 I agree entirely Paul, back then spectators could relate to the cars on the track and there were some very talented clubmen that could take on the big boys and at least give them a very good run for their money..I only really watch the Touring Cars these days, prefer the Bike racing now.

Some great drivers mentioned my personal favourite and possibly the finest exponent of rallycrossing a Mini was "Tom Airey" !
NICE TO WATCH IT
Oh and my favourite rally cross car is the Audi Quattro S1
In the hands of that mad Sweed Olle Arnersson!
just a question, any channel will give rallycross this season?

I seem to recall a Ferguson Formula 4WD Jensen Interceptor also being used in some very early RallyCross TV shows, was I dreaming?
Pretty sure that was the Ford Capri with a Furguson 4WD system driven by Stan Clark..

Barry Lee, the greatest driver in Britain!
did he tell you that by any chance? 😂😂😂
I second that! Best ever
Rallycross as "sponsored by Ford, Uk"! ;)
In live in Herne bay near Canterbury so I live very close to lydden hill circuit
nice one
No finer built for rallycross machine than a xtrac gartrac zakspeed ford Escort
I like it
Such great motorsport history and now they are destroying it with electric crap!
Long live the good old days❤
Someone tell the dude at 7:10 the cars have 600hp not 1400hp or 1000hp lol
Tazjukie Gaming that's Barry Lee I think he s thinking f1 engines of the 80 s 😂😂😂😉
.
Didn’t John Taylor work as an insurance salesman?
Like modern rallying they all look and sound the same, no innovation, luckily I'm old enough to have witnessed proper rallying and rallycross
