I’m incredibly excited for Soulmate, Ok Tecyeon is a fantastic and high-profile actor who usually plays the lead, so it’s great to have him as lgbt representation. It’s such an interesting project and a cool career move. Also Jaechan with bittersweet is such a huge step for kdramas, I hope this starts momentum for more lgbt representation in kdramas.
I keep seeing posts about Taecyeon’s upcoming BL (following the lingo lol) series & I’m so unbelievably excited. All this hype is making me upset though because I want to watch it now! Luckily I’m currently on my 4th Taecyeon show & I’m sure I will start another before this comes out but I’m trying to pace myself lol. The Untamed is based off of a BL Manhwa Mo Dao Zu Shi. But because of Chinese censorship, they made it into a bromance. Not only is Taecyeon, a wonderful actor taking a bl role, he's doing it with Hayato, who'm i know as Gilbert or Wataru Kun from one of my favourite japanese shows, What did you eat yesterday. Which by the way, is about a middle aged gay couple's daily life showcased through cooking and similar concepts. Although it technically isn't bl, hayato played a gay man with a fully established couple (they were practically married but law ig) I also loved him in Alice in borderland. Im extremely excited to see how this turns out.

Tbh, if you think of it as a BL without kisses, you can still kinda see it as one. That's because like you said, the chemistry helped a lot to portray the love they have for each other despite removing the BL element. As a taecyeon & jaechan fan, i'm so proud of them to see their next big project. They prove that they are good actors and singers that's why i'm huge fan of them. Taecyeon never disappointed me on his acting from being antagonist villain from vincenzo, or being main protagonist dramatic actor and comedian in horror comedy series bring it on ghost. Jaechan proves that he can be popular after his first debut on his k-pop career. However he never gain a popularity, but thanks to bl series he get a lot of recognition. I liked watching highschool return of the gangster for a few episodes until I tried to search the whole story online and came upon the article that they changed its genre, after that I didn't finish watching it. I lost interest. It was a wasted potential for a great drama if they just didn't change it.
well, I saw it till the end and loved it. Even if they removed the BL parts, to me they were so damn obvious, the chemistry and romance was there (it was like Untamed, a censored BL ) and I didn't even read the manhwa before. If you are used to the Chinese censorship on BL stories, you start to read between the lines 🏳🌈

However Korea is not like china and they have made a lot of bl series already. I think this is where those bl fans are coming from. I watched High school return of Gangster and I loved it. Didn't even have to be gay or queerbaiting. I liked it because of the action, acting and the friendship that was formed and it even had comedy. People are just complaining and whining about everything especially things that have become big, I guess like this drama that came out that I enjoyed watching. Wish there was more but the ending was still good.
I think people only complained because the manhwa it’s based on is a bl. It’s the same way people would complain if they turned “The Notebook” into a show about a gay romance.
I think the issue with that series is more one of straightwashing than queerbaiting, though obviously both play a role. Of course companies are free to remove us from stories about us to reach a broader audience. Indeed many real life queer people have been straightwashed in shows based on their lives for the same reason, so there is no great surprise for the same happening to fictional characters. Nonetheless people like myself have good reason to be annoyed at such behavior, since those actions are clear indications of our status as socially lesser persons and of our stories being considered unacceptable for the broader public by entertainment companies in general and showrunners in particular. This does not mean the show of itself cannot be well made, acted, or any number of other similar things. Merely that the original was considered less viable in large part due to bigotry, and such changes perpetuate the power of bigotry regardless the personal motivations of the creators.
