I’ve read many of Richard Dawkins books. Beginning with Selfish Gene to God Delusion - fascinating stuff. Javed Akhtar is also a poet of high calibre. I heard him recite his poem on irrepressibility of freedom in response to political repression in his neighbourhood during a military dictatorship. It was truly aspiring - a man of many talents.
Am now 70. At 14, I developed a feeling that GOD doesn't exist. At 18, I firmly believed that man created god and not vice-versa. Thanks to Betrand Russell whose collection of essays was in my English text book that made me a rational. Now, I read all these great guys and easyly identify with them. Javed excels in his thought process and was more impressive. Clear & Precise. Great.
A scientist might give you technical sophisticated answers but an eye of a poet is a marvel to behold too. I wish these two had a live audience and get together more often.

To that, I would like you to focus on the fact that he not only doesn't endorse that anymore but also speaks against it. I don't know if this comment is intended to imply that Javed is a hypocrite but I'm cautiously assuming that is the case. To that, I would like you to focus on the fact that he not only doesn't endorse that anymore but also speaks against it. I would much rather think of this as a positive because he has changed his mind about something for the better. Don't we all make mistakes and as we grow old correct them only to make new ones.. ? And this is goes on all our life. The problem in this day and age, especially with the onset of social media, is that we tend to vilify a person for each mistake they make. I'd like to give reasonable people another chance. And your comment, in fact, proves that given a chance, people will make better choices.
At least disagreement should not be considered as blasphemy by the state!

Dawkins from the safe, cocoon of a British liberal upbringing and status asks how Akhtar, who lives daily within the fire of fundamental, communal bigotry and violence that the hyper-religious subcontinent offers its citizens, can bring himself to be called a 'muslim' atheist!
Dear Professor, we Indians (Subcontinentals... generally) might escape the imaginary clutches of an unearthly god but it is not easy to break free of the very real grasp of the culture that is hijacked in the name of religion by this imaginary god's very real, torch-bearing, sharp-weapon brandishing earthly minions!
