Bit of a different style of video this time, let me know what you think! Are there any tools you can't live without that I didn't have on the list? If you'd like to help me make more videos like this, consider becoming a member :) www.youtube.com/@Barnso/join
Thanks so much! I've always been a bit of a tinkerer so this is just the way it makes sense to me haha Definitely more to come! Thanks for the lovely comment!
It's fantastic what one can do with so little, just in the literal sense that everything literally fits into a box (except for the sewing table with your ancient immortal Singer, which, honestly what a lucky thing to have). I have the opposite problem, I've spent years tossing my disposable income at all these gadgets and power tools. As time kept on going I just kept dragging it all with me wherever I'd go. For a long time, I had it all packed into a storage unit I paid for on top of my rent because I lived in an apartment with no room for it. When I moved in to my current place, I finally had a garage, so the tools and accessories just took over the place. But now that I'm trying to find a job in Norway and move overseas, it's made me reconsider everything (that and my budgeting skills having grown into their prime finally). At some point the stuff became in charge instead of me. It all demands space, it leaves me less flexible. What's the point of hoarding a million things if not using each one frequently? Now it makes my moving plans a million times worse. I must spend all of this time with this faff of digging through piles of boxes filled to the brim with all kinds of crap, and then figure out how I'm going to get rid of it. And even if Norway had the same 120V electricity as the US, would I move all this stuff it would need insane amounts of shipping space to send. It just doesn't make sense. I think what I've been learning, both on my own and from great role models like yourself, is that maybe one _doesn't_ need the latest Problem Fixatron with a hefty price tag, just to accomplish some task. Not every project has to be "perfect" as if it were CNC'd by a professional. All these companies that manufacture this tosh with heft price tags slapped on it, they want to sell this idea of ease and convenience and perfection. And a bunch of that is with products designed not to last or just meant to be single-use, and that is precisely the drivel that leads to us filling our only home in the universe, our planet, with so much trash we're collapsing innumerable natural phenomena, even the kinds of we are not yet aware of. All in all, impressed your go-to tool collection is a box. And that might possibly be me soon as I navigate figuring out this move. Though I will say, using the orbital sander I just used to take the old ancient coat off of my kitchen tabletop was already a _lot_ of elbow grease, and I cannot imagine having done it entirely with sandpaper ye olde fashioned way. (If you only could see the finish, it came out beautifully.) This is also why more towns and cities need to have tool libraries! My city of Seattle has one, you can go in and rent (for free!) any number of power tools, clamps, saws, you name it. Much better than owning a tool only to use it once every few years. Nice stuff, man! Looking forward to your next video, whenever it arrives!
I totally get the temptation! I think, luckily for me, not having space (and, I'm not going to lie, being stingy) has stopped me from accumulating too much. There is definitely a level of convenience to be had from power tools, they're much faster and less taxing to use than hand tools, which makes making accessible in different ways. Even just from a time perspective, it's not always feasible to dedicate huge amounts of time to a project and fancier tools can definitely speed things up! I'm sure I'll expand the collection over time and it'll include some power tools. I don't even want to think about sanding a full bench top by hand 😂 (Btw I'm thinking of starting up a discord server so that we'll all be able to share the cool stuff we've been working on, I'd love to see how the bench top turned out!) A tool library is such a wonderful idea! There are a couple of maker spaces in my city but they're all pretty expensive. Hopefully the idea catches on some more and we can share the world of making with even more people! Thanks so much for sharing and for all the support! I wish you all the best with your potential move to Norway! That sounds super exciting!
I would only add a pair of vice grips to the list. combination tool of plier and clamp. also maybe a chisel or another cutting tool like scissors or a knife.

A ruler - something to measure and create straight lines.
I knew I would forget something hahaha! Great shout!
I really like your videos, no 3d design, just building from mind. Really appreciate that, keep going 💪🏻

This is a nice wee channel to stumble across. Gives me a little more inspiration to finally start making videos myself. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much! It's a lot of fun to make videos, you should go for it!
