Mad props, ultimately, to Paul, for concocting the non-obvious bass lines....many, if not most bassists have merely echoed or closely mimicked the lead line for their parts, but not Paul! Many times, Paul has composed a completely different song-within-a-song, while uniquely complementing the melody. And, as someone above correctly noted....all while singing!

I'm really embarrassed, I saw the Beatles in concert in '64 and '65, I've been an avid fan for most of my life; to me personally, they were the greatest musicians of the 20th Century, and yet I couldn't guess more than a handful of those base lines, even as well played as they were. When I saw them in Milwaukee in '64, it was so deafeningly loud that the only piece I was certain they had played was You Can't Do That, because I recognized Paul's last three notes. Thanks for including Daytripper. This video was well done, I had a lot of fun. Thanks.

This is a great quiz. It highlights how integral McCartney's Bass lines to the songs. Told an old friend who said "I'm sick of the Beatles" ( he meant the "legendary" status). I said "Man, just listen to them as a Band, pretty young to be coming up with stuff we take for granted now, like Air". With the perspective of age, it's amazing how quickly and instinctively they progressed with all the media stuff going on, while so young, and continued to afterwards, in their own ways. Thank you!

This Proves what great compositions the beatles created especially in the later stages of their Career, the single instruments rarely just play just a melody for themselves, they always serve the greater picture to create iconic melodys in unity with the whole band. I think thats the reason why its so hard to recognize the songs only with a bass line because the bass line rarely just plays a foundation for the guitar or a riff on its own, instead Paul plays always something that creates a deeper layer of melody in the song that works perfectly with the rest of the instruments.

Well if you’re not a musician plus a bass/guitar player you’re gonna find them pretty hard to tell because of Paul’s ingenuity. I play guitar but have probably learnt more about improvising from Paul’s bass parts than from George’s guitar ones. I also like to listen to his isolated bass tracks fairly often, still didn’t get Tell me why and Gently weeps. Think I’ll make a conscious effort to learn to play all of his Beatles basslines and how they interact in each song. This video planted the seed. 👌🏼
