I have heard this story from many wrestlers. Most are quite similar. Jacques did what he had to do, Raymond had a reputation as being tougher than he appeared. Dynamite Kid never went down after the shot. All similar from various sources.
Yea that's correct. He hit him side on with a make shift knucledustser while he had a cigarette and a cup of coffee in his hand and he still didn't put him down. So make of that what you will. And his description of dynamite hitting him from behind is incorrect as well that's been confirmed by people there. I don't like dynamite kid but one can't question his toughness.

@Ryan Jessen I hear ya, Lad. Takes a special kind of asshole to wanna do that to someone. Dynamite got his frenemy drunk and defenseless, then pissed on him. I HATE hearing stories of anyone getting hurt, but I don't feel sorry that Jacques knocked his teeth out. Dynamite didn't stop after he jumped Jacques in the locker room. Jacques tells it pretty much almost exactly the same way in another interview. Obviously brothers could corroborate and make sure their side of events was right but you can tell both are genuine decent men and this is how the situation most probably went word for word.
Trigmasterr06 from what I've heard no one in the lockeroom liked dynamite he was a complete asshole he was known for being rough with up and comers in the ring and would give them stiff closelines
Ribs are often couched as mischief to break up the monotony, but with a sense of brotherhood. But that's not always the case. Sometimes, especially with people like Tommy Billington, they are ways to bully and torment others. Jacques was in a very tough spot. Tommy was not only a notorious bully, he also was a legitimate tough guy and a very dangerous fighter. When people say Jacques' attack was cowardly -- and maybe it indeed was -- it was the only way he could have beaten him up. Facing off with him, even with Raymond, wouldn't have worked. Dynamite probably would have hurt them both. Bad. Add to the fact that Dynamite had his entourage with him most times... which included his buddy Bad News Brown, another legitimately dangerous man, things could have really gotten bad. Jacques ambush had like a 100 to 1 shot of succeeding, and lucky for him, that "1" came up.
I think this is the first time I've heard this story from Raymond. I've heard it from Jacques, Lanny Poffo, Bad News Brown, and Bret Hart in other interviews. Bad News is the only one I can remember who's supported Dynamite over this. Even Bret Hart who was really close with Dynamite has said that Dynamite had it coming because he'd bullied so many guys in the past. Bret Hart also was one of the guys who warned Dynamite that the Rougeaus would retaliate. Apparently loads of the wrestlers warned Dynamite Kid that there would be a comeback for hitting Jacques and he ignored all the warnings.
Incredible interview, incredible shoot as always. Angles on stuff nobody on the net has really heard before. Hannibal is starting to do some of the best shoot interviews in the industry because of his connections and stuff. He's got his hand in everything, I think eventually after his career this could be a big thing for him, ya never know
So is Curt Hennig the ultimate mastermind behind this rivalry between The Rougeau's and Dynamite Kid? I think personally the one responsible is Curt Hennig because he caused this feud and he should've been held responsible. I am a fan of Mr. Perfect aka Curt Hennig but what he caused here was just low and horrible. He should've been held accountable and all 4 of them should've gone after Curt Hennig instead of them fighting each other.
@@y2flu dealing with a bully there's no such thing. Jaques got attacked from behind, he responded in kind. It's not the old school challenge to a duel, it's a sneaky thing on both sides, only dynamite didn't use a weapon.
@@sleazyfellow yeah, I'm not sure an open hand slap to the back of the head warrants a sucker punch in the mouth with a roll of quarters. But Dynamite started it so I guess they felt it warranted a more severe retaliation
You know how you can tell that someone genuinely loves to fight? Every time he talks about punching it makes him smile. "Just lay it in, lay it in, lay it in" he starts unknowingly starts smiling and that's how I am too. So I can relate.
amazing story. I've heard this story before but not from his brother. So many lessons here, manhood, courage, redemption, fear, bullies, being watchful. I stood up to a bully back 87, i hit him in the mouth after being beat up and bullied for months, he was shocked. My only mistake was i didn't realize he was going to come back and try to save face, so right after it happened I was somewhere with my back completely turned at my locker and he came back and beat me pretty bad from behind, nobody had taught me how to watch my back and keep my head on a swivel.... But even though I got my butt kicked from his comeback, the bullying did stop
This interview dovetails perfectly with Jacques interview. The sad thing is almost everybody associated with this incident has passed, Dynamite, Davey boy, Bad News, Warrior, Dino Bravo.
We've all had a Dynamite Kid we've had to deal with at some point in our lives. The brothers are heroes as far as I'm concerned. Even if it took a roll of quarters.
Actually I'm not too surprised that Curt Henning was "involved"....he was quite the instigator in "the back" according to many wrestlers who spoke of this on the sheets and in their own biography's....and apparently he got worse as his drug use did too thinking it was funny to others....Proud subscriber...TY for the up load(s)
I think he was 5’8” (still short, especially for the wrestling business) and weighed more like 170-180 before the steroids but he did have a Napoleon complex and may have been a sociopath. He certainly had a temper and anger management problem.
@@naj5338 sociopath is a term used to describe men who have the same emotionless, self absorbed demeanor as women. If you have no feelings for society and only care about yourself and you are a man, you are a sociopath. If you act that way as a female its just typical behavior.
I was at that taping in Fort Wayne. I still live about 3 miles away from the coliseum as I watch this. I remember that night well. The word about what happened traveled to us fans in the crowd that night somehow. I was a kid at the time, and still remember that night well.
12:00 you don’t even need a roll of quarters, a bic lighter works really well too, it just reinforces your hand and gives something sturdy to wrap your fist around. The roll of quarters is obviously preferable, but not many people walk around with a roll of quarters in their pocket in a self defense scenario.
Ray was ALWAYS legit. Class act and can genuinely hold his own when needed. It's funny how the least-suspecting guys can usually go, and the others are just show lol.
Their dad was known as one of the toughest men in Quebec and Raymond was a champion golden gloves boxer. Even Bret in his book said that Raymond's appearance was very deceiving as he looked liked a Ned Flanders type of easy going guy but was extremely tough. To be fair tho, he also said on the Legends of Wrestling roundtable that he'd put his money on Dynamite in a one on one match with Raymond after Pat Patterson and Mean Gene were going on about how tough Raymond was. But when you pit a catch wrestler against a boxer, the shoot wrestler is almost always going to win unless the striker is very good at avoiding take downs. It also kind of lends some credence to Raymonds claim that Dynamite didnt hit very hard since many grapplers and wrestlers tend to be poor strikers. (See Rhonda Rousey vs Holly Holm)
rousey or holm are poor strikers ..having said that women cant strike at all..having said that ... women dont belong in the fight business...bad example
One of the best parts of the story is missing. In Jacques' account, after Hogan says, "I'm outta here," Macho Man walks in, sees all the blood, says "Woooooo" in his distinct voice, turns right back around and leaves the room.

No. The actual "point is that if your are going to be a ribber and instigator" is that you should really know when it's time to do so, and when it's time NOT to do it... Like here, where these 2 (Jacques and DK) already disliked each other.
Always, always stand up for yourself or a bully will do just that. I can remember 2 or 3 fights in my life where I genuinely did not want to fight the other guy based on his reputation and every time whether I won or not I gained respect from the other person and they knew their running over me without a fight was over. More importantly It will make you respect yourself even more.
Worked in Calgary........ Ranchmans & Long Bar working the door in the early 1980's. Met many of the wrestlers, never met the Rougeau's. Having heard this man talk would have never thought he was part of the scene back then. The bulldogs were smaller than me physically, and in no time became specimens. I could see the story shared as being forthright and honest. Truthfully, the consumption of beer back in the day was the regiment.....more body fat and less injuries......lol ..Great Channel..stay safe
@@ceet12 i dont think id call it a makeshift knuckle duster. The roll of quarters added weight to the punch but a duster goes over the knuckles so you hit them with steel/brass
I loved that I heard Marty J.s version first. He totally said that he heard the brother talking to him in French, coaching him like a boxing couch and throwing out demands. Love when stories match up from multi sources because you know.... Hey this story may be more % real than others.
Never had Martys version but I would like to. Do you have a link?
Marty jannetty is a compulsive liar.
Probably the best version of the story I've heard. Bien joué, mon Raymond!
Raymond is a brilliant man. i really enjoyed hearing about this.Great story teller---nice job
Big fan of wrestling and on the Rougeau family from 1967 .. Great storytelling Raymond you are a great athlete and wish you well ... big thank you of your work in your business 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I have watched the several times, due to Raymond telling a good story, great interview.
Thank God he gave us the short version
I bet Vince respected the rougeau's from that point.
Raymon is a stand up guy
Ray seems like the type of guy who should be working on the board of directors of wwe.
He still works for them as a French announcer. He was hired back a few months after he did this interview.
@@TheHannibalTV Do you speak French?
A really great story. Mr. Perfect’s prank starts a damn war.
Dynamite got a taste of his own medecine
According to Killer Bee Jim Brunzell, Dynamite pissed in Outback Jack's face and got Outback in the mouth. Outback was drunk and spitting the urine away. I also heard one of the Bulldogs squirted crazy glue in his hat.
Im sure you heard of the flight attendant story. He kept picking on Jacques and also asking Ray how his injured knee was. He was more or less asking Raymond if he's ready to fight. Bret Hart and Dino Bravo tried to warn Dynamite of his future and boy did he get it. His career faded to shit from there.
@@JoeDMurphy spot on!, Dynamite Kid went WAY to far, to much nasty shit going on with him, heard Bill Anderson telling a story of how he drugged a lad, with of the guys who sets the ring up,takes it down, Dynamite spiked his drink, could of killed him,he did this to get his Jollies, not sure if this story is true, Dynamite broke a young girls leg,so her parents could claim some insurance money or something like that?,and he agreed to break it,like I say, nasty bloke, deserved a good slap.
@@tommytaylor5195 true it was his niece he broke her legs for the insurance money, he also set fire to another wrestler while he was sleeping he was a total pos and karma got him good.
I know there are always 2 sides to a story but if this is the real version of what happened then Raymond Rougeau is a badass who quite rightly dont take shit off anybody.
@@Ac3Saint I listened to a version by Jacques where the involvement of Kurt Henning wasn't mentioned it's possible he learned of it at a later time.
I always respect interviewers who only speak when they need to, and they let the guest speak fully.
Jacques ambush had like a 100 to 1 shot of succeeding, and lucky for him, that "1" came up.
maybe
Didn't even drop him though 😱
@@r3d3y3si - Nature did though!
This is not the first time i have heard the kid punched like a little girl.
Mike Brannon Yeah, but Tommy hit Jacques from behind. So turnabout fairplay.
Such a great story. Ray is a true gentleman. Much respect
+MrMetalover666 Bad News and Dynamite were good friends since Stampede.
Fanik10 So I gather. Bad News was probably the one guy there that Dynamite Kid knew better than to fuck with so he buddied up to him instead.
MrMetalover666
pretty much, yeah.
MrMetalover666 they were Beer Belly Share Croppers
@@Fanik10 Brian Pillman also stated once that he didnt particularly give a shit about dynamite and that he was a prick.
Incredible interview, incredible shoot as always. Angles on stuff nobody on the net has really heard before. Hannibal is starting to do some of the best shoot interviews in the industry because of his connections and stuff. He's got his hand in everything, I think eventually after his career this could be a big thing for him, ya never know
Thanks for the upload, great stuff as usual...I've heard a lot of other wrestlers in shoot interviews say that Raymond was/is a legitimate tough guy
But is not a legit badass
So is Curt Hennig the ultimate mastermind behind this rivalry between The Rougeau's and Dynamite Kid? I think personally the one responsible is Curt Hennig because he caused this feud and he should've been held responsible. I am a fan of Mr. Perfect aka Curt Hennig but what he caused here was just low and horrible. He should've been held accountable and all 4 of them should've gone after Curt Hennig instead of them fighting each other.
One of my favorite shoots. A classic story of a bully getting put in his place. Not to talk trash about Dynamite but well told too by Mr. Raymond.
I got nothing but respect for the Rougeau brothers. The way I see it, if you play asshole games you win asshole prizes. Dynamite kid has it coming.
The guys in the locker room were in on the attack of Jacques. It was planned. However, they didn't count on the roll of quarters.
got his money's worth.
bitch move, imo.
Best interview ever
What a receipt! Beautiful
I've watched this interview many times, but I've just realised it paints Vince in a *very* good light
but Mancho Man..."ooooh yeah!" ***slams door shut
Wow, what a horrible culture to have to work in.
Agreed

You could tell Ray's a legit tough guy with his laid back attitude of not backing down.
very underrated, the rougeaus never got the credit they deserved,..
well they did'nt connected enough with the fans
Thank you to the Rougeau Brothers
But even though I got my butt kicked from his comeback, the bullying did stop
epic story. Curt Hennig the 'perfect' shit stirrer
I think Curt went kinda far with this tbh
He performed the perfect OD
Why couldn't Vince just get them in a room together so they can found out that they were all being played by Mr. Prefect lol.
how do you know that is mr perfect ?

Because by that point it didn't matter. Things had already gone too far.
You know Ray would have made a great Maffia Godfather lol.
with the puppy on his lap earlier in the interview, I thought that too!
Great clip! I've seen shoots with alot of people telling this story But never herd ray Rougeau's side if it. Thanks for posting
Any time you search "Bullies getting dealt with" This should be the first result that comes up
One of the best interviews
Dynamite deserved two separate receipts since he hit both of them. He got off easy.
Actually I'm not too surprised that Curt Henning was "involved"....he was quite the instigator in "the back" according to many wrestlers who spoke of this on the sheets and in their own biography's....and apparently he got worse as his drug use did too thinking it was funny to others....Proud subscriber...TY for the up load(s)
mr perfect had nothing to do with it, is he the cause that the bulldogs were leaving

Curt Hennig is lucky he had all his f****** teeth
Raymond is a man of his word. I believe him
Ray was tougher than Jacques, Davey or dynamite. it's always the quiet, peaceful guys that you don't mess with..
Great story on demolishing captain napolean!! All 5'6" of him!! Without steroids he would be 140lbs!! Good job Jacques and Raymond!
I think he was 5’8” (still short, especially for the wrestling business) and weighed more like 170-180 before the steroids but he did have a Napoleon complex and may have been a sociopath. He certainly had a temper and anger management problem.
@@naj5338 I dont think he couldve been much over 200 even with the roids.
@@naj5338 sociopath is a term used to describe men who have the same emotionless, self absorbed demeanor as women. If you have no feelings for society and only care about yourself and you are a man, you are a sociopath. If you act that way as a female its just typical behavior.
Raymond is very articulate and intelligent . Great story !!
RAYMOND and JACQUES tell the same story, very good, thank you.
(See Rhonda Rousey vs Holly Holm)
what does ronda rousey and holly holm had to do with it?
rousey or holm are poor strikers ..having said that women cant strike at all..having said that ...
women dont belong in the fight business...bad example
Mr Perfect and the Bulldogs, in the end, got what they deserved. Good move on WWE's part kept Dynamite out of the HoF.
Great interviews you do thank you . Bring me back to being a kid i apreciate what you do thanks again
One of the best parts of the story is missing. In Jacques' account, after Hogan says, "I'm outta here," Macho Man walks in, sees all the blood, says "Woooooo" in his distinct voice, turns right back around and leaves the room.
