- AUCKLAND New Zealand November 19, 2020. EmiratesTeam New Zealand launched the long awaited new AC75 yacht Te Rehutai at their Base in Auckland today.
Out of it's element, Te Rehutai, looks beautifully aggressive
auspicious, potentious!
Mike, great comment, thanks, Mike
AirflowNZ Travel, Well done mate, the whole world will most probably be watching your excellent footage of this classy New Zealand boat
Wow, your video of it coming out of the boatshed, made it look like a sleek Ferrari, or a top of the range Lambo'. Great shots keep up the good work
Gib, thanks, I think she looks great also, Mike
Cant wait to be there...
Good Luck 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀💪
Tke care Team NZ

Anthem, thanks for that, Mike
That rudder foil is TINY! Smaller than Patriot and they lost control their first time out. The mail foils look fantastic -best yet revealed. It looks to me like they moved some ballast way up out of the water (the calf muscle) to keep the foil as thin as possible. That gives up some power but lowers drag and raises top speed without cavitation. ETNZ definitely gets the "pushing the limits of material properties" design prize.
Skyak, we will soon see how she sails, Mike
@@airflownztravel And you will be there to capture it. You da man Mike!
This is textbook ETNZ -most aggressive foils, hard to sail but then they sail it without fault. This is what they had in mind when they chose this concept.
I am sure over at AM they are talking about the ETNZ foils and if they should have a crash program to make make a more aggressive set of foils. And I bet someone at the table said "wait and see these guys sail theirs first".
I mentioned this a while ago, I wonder if it has an effect on the spray pattern on the trailing edge of the arm and wondered if other teams would employ something similar.
Relating to my hand brake remark, I was reminded of me younger days when taught “ anyone can drive up a hill, the hard part is getting down the other side intact. Had a few bloody scary moments I must admit, but listening to the old fellas sure saved me.
Thanks for the opportunity to look this one over! Should make the challengers anxious.
SC, You bet! Mike
Great video. let's hope they've got it right. I'll breath a bit easier when I've seen it throw in a few tacks.
Glyn, thanks again. We should see today how she sails, Mike
Mike, Just been listening to Dalts on RUclips. Late here in UK so hope your planning to video todays sail. Can't wait.
Glyn, trust you have caught up with my latest video of first sail! Mike
First impression...Looks very busy...from shape to paint job.
There's something to be said about elegance in simplicity.
Stelios, she will certainly stand out! Mike
I’ll hold my opinion until I see her fully dressed out and hustling at 50 knots. 😊
First impression: Yikes! What have they done? On second look and thought, I am kind of glad it seems one of a kind. Keel concept similar to Ineos, but the wings look different and extreme. Like the flanks of the boat, upright and flat as opposed to the opposition. This boat class really is a blend of aqua- and aerodynamics! Can't wait to see your first shots from on the water. Thanks, Marcel
The "busy" shapes are likely the result of "generative design" in which humans set up design constraints and feed in data from real world experience only to train the machine learning. Then this educated machine learning goes to work designing virtual prototypes and evaluating performance. The result is a design sculpted by machine learning through many generations of simulated evolution.
Marcel, trust you have seen the results already, she will be so hard to beat! Mike
Wow !!!🤩 so amazing New Zealand 🇳🇿 boat 💪💪💪👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏
Kim, nice comment,Mike
Looks aerodynamic. Should be fast.
Rob, should be very fast! Mike
It's far more like the british boat than I anticipated. A little bit Te Kahu, a little bit Patriot, a snif of Luna Rossa, and a large helping of Britannia.
It surprisingly looks nothing like Te Aihe
WD, another interesting comment, thanks, Mike
Well it's different , Hope all those flat sections dont make it to sticky to get up on the foils quick smart ? bugger all drag in that pencil rudder , mind doing 45 - 50 Kts it doesn't need much to turn or lift .
Bill, we should find out today! Mike
That is a good looking sail-plane.
Scott, she sure is, Mike
Great music
Arwyn, thank you, Mike
It looks like the bat boat .wow
Jos, I. think she will be very fast, Mike
"The Red Tie"
Sleek... godspeed
Nice comment, Mike
Now that's a bit Special
Glen, a mighty machine, Mike
Interesting keel nuances.
GO
l, a bussel? Mike
What a beauty! Thank you for showing.
DGM, Glad you enjoyed it! Mike
I really think they should have fitted a hand brake, they may need one looking at this beast.
SS, what about a braking Shute? Mike
@@airflownztravel ha ha, yip that may help.
Interesting - boat 1 was supposed to be fast, but now they've changed pretty much everything for boat 2. Seems like a risky approach, a bit like Britannia. Let's see if it works.
TG, we should get an idea of speed today, Mike
The slab sides aft and low bow look similar to Ineos boat 1.
Well they were out today foiling around, along with Prada. INEOS looked liked something stuck in the mud. So in light air the Brits boat is a pig.
FAB, interesting to see how each yacht handle today’s fickle winds, Mike
What was the previous NZ yacht we have sailing around. Is it just a new paint job?
Patrick, this is a new design, Mike
Looks extreme and badass. Not particularly pretty maybe, but it definitely stands out. I wonder if they got it right or if they screw it up, giving that the first boat is totally different but looked very fast. The fact that they can launch their boat so late compared to the others is pretty unfair, cause they clearly took some inspiration from what they have seen on the other boats. Plus, the hydraulic arms have some kind of aileron at the bottom, right above the foils, that makes me wonder if that is even legal. I thought that arms should be the same for all.
The main elements of the design were locked in months ago. Pretty hard to copy other teams second boat. As always, in each iteration of a class the boats become more similar.
Yeah pretty sure they couldn't just whip up boat 2 between the launch of the challengers and now. They all specialise in boat design. Theory and testing would all lead to a similar conclusion.
Then again I'm sure that team NZ have done their homework.
So what if it looks like transformer on steroids, bottom line is, will it beat the opposition?
Stelios, we will have to wait until next month for her first race! Mike
At first, in appearance she looks slippery enough, the weeks ahead should show us just how slippery she is, the tension of competition is on the rise.
Kenneth, we will find out soon, Mike
@@airflownztravel Yes Mike, the next few months will be given over to bringing out the beast.
The extremely low centre deck should allow them more sail area.
Jamie, the boats seem to keep the main sail boom below deck level so wind can’t escape, Mike
Where is the New Zealand Tax Payers Advertising on the hull ?
Lorraine & Ivan, it’s the smile on the faces when they see the new yacht sailing! Cheers, Mike
This is what we've been waiting for... Pleas do 50knots on your first sail...lol.
Are u kidding??
Mike, you may have to wait for her second outing! Mike
@@thehighlander959 obviously..
Idk about this one. It’s very different. The skeg is not so prevalent on the rest (except Britain), the foils are straight, and the gunwales are a strange design. However, I trust that the designers know what they are doing.
Pete, we will find out soon, Mike
Not so impressed with American Magic's bustle forward section any longer. Probably was a design error.
Scott, let’s wait and see, Mike
Now sail that baby
Bruce I hope to see her sailing today, Mike
So have the Brits designed a Kiel that works..... Hmm Team NZ now have the same
Nigel, but which one will be the winner! Mike
That is one “bad” looking boat.
Idk man, the British one is kinda clapped ngl
@@petecowley3481 the Brit boat was partly designed by the Mercedes F1 team at Braxton. The brits may have something very fast.
They could care less how it looks if it wins. Having never won the cup they are very desperate.....
@@108hindu yeah, a bit disappointing that we’ve never won it, considering that we are the most successful sailing nation. Fingers cross for next year, and also fingers crossed for Alex Thompson.
So much for social distancing and masks
Bernd, we only required. to wear masks on public transport, Mike
@@airflownztravel OK good to know. Thanks!
Btec Britannia 2
Unless they have like bicycles or some magic wing it looks pretty much like the others😲👍
Weaponsgrade......
Glen, armed and ready! Mike
Looks too much like the first british ship.
The "keel" has rounded edges though, and no "bustle" so it is slightly less radical. I thought the AM rudder foil was tiny -ETNZ takes it to a new level.
Utter rubbish, its nothing like that
Sarà veloce, vedremo, ma in quanto a design è parecchio bruttina
Marco, yes she will be fast, the jury is still out over her looks! Mike
Tanto in AC importante e' vincere, non e' una gara di bellezza. Ed ETNZ vincera' ancora..go ETNZ ;)
Michele, you are correct, the name of the game is to be a winner! Mike
@@airflownztravel and you are the Top with videos ;) thank you... Loyal TNZ 4ever!!
Michele, many thanks for your kind comment, Mike
Non vale, loro possono fare tutte le barche che vogliono, gli altri si devono attenere ai parametri.
Vito, I am not sure if they actually bent the rules to suit themselves
It looks fast but it's horrible
