Fun to see areas I was also in. I did the RVA-Williamsburg bike trip on Columbus Day weekend, and was on the Norfolk waterfront the last week of October. With some effort I probably could have found a way to say hello. And I agree Richmond is a great museum city. Did you try the Poe museum? There is some great bike riding on the Maryland shore of the lower Potomac.

"Smithfield Foods is owned by the WH Group, a Hong Kong-based company that is China's top meat producer" I don't think they process the meat here, they slaughter and send them overseas I have heard.

What are the bridge height limitations?
Nothing that impacted our 18.5' clearance... but don't recall any short bridges. But we honestly don't pay much attention beyond our own needs.
