    I will say that I feel like Kiritsugu is misunderstood in a positive way while Shirou is misunderstood in a negative way. Kiritsugu's actions are supposed to be displayed as something that won't get him anywhere yet people glorify him for the path he took (I'm not saying it's wrong to like Kiritsugu's journey. I love it's journey for the fact that it shows that sacrificing everything around you for the greater good will leave you in shambles.) Shirou's ideals are often seen as childish and naive at the start of every route but since he doesn't let go of his ideals in Fate and UBW (instead he reforms them) those particular interpretations of the character are looked down upon because either the audience doesn't understand why he would choose to uphold them in spite of the consequences or they just didn't like him regardless.

    • @alfredhigglestein2828
      @alfredhigglestein2828 2 года назад +42

      Legit, instead shirous views should be the ones that are glorified for its mature and understanding outlook on his ideals, since he has come full circle. Kiritsugu should the one to instead be admonished for his pursuit of those ideals, and in the end, both should be praised for being fascinating characters

    Kiritsugu is above all the biggest representation of the point of Fate. No matter how hard a person tries, one cannot save the world with selfless intentions, and it's foolhardy to even try. All you'll end up is broken.
    Kiritsugu killed everything he cared about and could save nothing. Only when he selfishly sought something to save, Shirou, did he finally save anything at all.
    Likewise with Shirou, who only saved Fuyuki because of an inherently selfish love, whether of Rin, of Sakura, or of Saber.
    Even Ritsuka Fujimaru, the protagonist of FGO is only capable of saving the earth for one selfish reason. "I want to live".
    I think it's a fascinating commentary on heroism, one usually lost in the tide of all the horniness. Not often is selfishness praised as a virtue.

      Wouldn't ubw shirou go against this though, he doesn't continue chasing that ideal for any person or selfish reason, but purely because he believes the pursuit of trying to save everyone is beautiful.
      By having these two characters (Kiritsugu and Shirou) compared against each other, I think the fate series, even fgo, that although humans might not be able to achieve much, their constant struggles against this fact, against fate, is something beautiful

    I firmly believe 99% of Shirou haters are Anime onlies who somewhat understandably missed his entire character completely. The anime adaptations as good as they are do a lot of the characters pretty dirty (him and Illya especially).

    Kirisuga feels like a extreme side of battle, he in embark on a never ending battle of evil, like batman never ending war with crime.
    Where Kirisuga is willing to kill to save that world, basically becoming evil for the act of taking a lives. It broke him to a point where the outside exterior can be perceived as him being a cold heartless man who cares about nothing. Which is partial wrong as he cares deeply for his daughter and his adopted son and his family.
    (Hell he cares for that his dreams since he wants to save the world)
    The end with Batman is that Bruce doesn't want to kill, to him it keeps him being like the criminal he fights, He mentality not well and the moral rules he place on himself. Gets more people kill due the fact his enemies won't stop killing and Batman won't kill them. Even from an outside perspective He looks cold and heartless but Bruce cares deeply and is emotionally invested in his crusade as Batman and connection to his sons.

    • @thirdplanet4471
      @thirdplanet4471 Год назад +1

      Interestingly, og Batman used to kill and sometimes depending on the version some of his enemies get redeemed eg Two face and Clay face. I also think it should be noted that though Batman is a vigilante he still works with police officers and doesnt go full terrorist like kiritsugu. Additionally, I heard one reason Batman doesn't kill is that he is an example to the robins and if he became like kiritsugu the police and justice league would be after him. Now putting criminals in prison for then to break out is dumb but I think batman did his job by capturing joker and gothams government is to blame for not having capiital punishment and relying more on arkham asylum. Also, from a business standpoint dc relies heavily on legacy characters and won't permanently kill them off.

    • @solidmoon8266
      @solidmoon8266 10 месяцев назад

      The mainstay reason for Batman to adamantly deny killing villians is because he knows that if he ever resorts to it, he might never stop. He's the most crazy thing in Gotham, riding on the knifes edge between heroism, and villiany, through insanity held in check by his near unbreakable willpower.
      The few times Batman ever killed, he was pushed to the point where it was deemed the only answer, for which he immediately turned himself in (like the time he snapped Jokers neck in the Batmobile on the way to the police station).
      That's why Batman doesn't kill when it would save many lives from these villains. So Batman wouldn't resort to killing every criminal he crosses regardless of the crime commited.

    Just my opinion:
    I think in his quest to kill evil Kiritsugu became evil himself and set out on a never-ending battle as he had only one method to solve a complex ever increasing over expanding problem. Even if Kerry kills all evil people then he still needs to start doing good and fix other issues that push people to do evil acts like poverty, political corruption, economic problems, and other societal woes. Evil is not just one thing and it can take multiple forms. In Batman begins Ras al ghul says, "Create enough hunger and everyone becomes a criminal". If true, then there are some problems that can't be solved with guns and bullets alone. I mean no one just wakes up and does evil unless maybe they're -Kirei- crazy but the things that caused evil must be sorted out otherwise nothing will change and history will forever repeat itself. Sometimes, l think Archer Emiya hated being a counter guardian because he's literally stuck killing people for all eternity and can't do or try anything else not even finding better methods if there are any (almost like a dead end job but worse). Moving on, it also makes me wonder what exactly Kerry's utopia would be because even if the grail could grant such a wish if it is not maintained then it would devolve into chaos once more like the rat utopia experiment, and in a way, Kerry would force his vision of peace onto everyone and how would he go about judging who is evil and who is good because there are varying levels.
    Either Kerry would have to:
    Kill everyone
    Kill all the bad people and leave the good people (don't know how you would go about judging that)
    Become God and take away free will then force everyone to act as he wishes them to act.
    His wish for a utopia may create a lostbelt situation.
    Anyway, there is also the problem of protecting the innocent and rebuilding since Kerry is an unaccountable executioner/terrorist who acts above the law and may sometimes kill innocent people who get caught in the crossfire (probably even kills the people he once saved if the situation calls for it) or destroys property to get to the guilty then who would repair that damage or help the people hurt by Kerry's method or would they be left to rebuild themselves? Also, what would Kerry do if met with someone who wanted revenge because he killed their loved one? And when he isn't killing or hunting would Kerry help the less fortunate? That being said he did evacuate the hotel before blowing it up but he did say that Iri and Ilya made him soft so if it weren't for them he may have killed those people too. In the case of the Fuyuki fire the survivors had their lives destroyed and were fed to Gilgamesh by Kirei but Kerry, to my knowledge, only helped Shiro. Changing into a better person is also possible sometimes but Kerry probably never considered that and it's also possible Kerry can change into a worse person with even more destructive methods. Heck, l think it was prisma Ilya manga Kerry continued his methods because he didn't experience the fuyuki fire and in grand order he's a counter guardian. So l guess unless something crazy happens he's only loyal to his ideals.
    Basically, in his quest to become a hero Kerry became the very thing he sought to destroy, he became arrogant in thinking that only he alone could save the world, no sacrifice was too high regardless of who, what, whether or not they asked to be sacrificed and only his methods were correct. Seriously, l want to know who made Kerry judge, jury, and executioner? And if a normal person did what Kerry did they would be a criminal. Also, it's ironic that those who preach about the needs of the many want to go about enforcing what they believe to be the needs of the many when it's actually their own personal individual beliefs of what they think the majority wants. Also, it was dumb for Kerry to directly or indirectly condemn Shiro to a life of superheroism because he's seen how bad it can be and has lived through that hell so why he wants Shiro to experience the same thing he went through is crazy. Perhaps I'm looking too deeply but Kerry and his father have a few parallels like their final acts resulting in the destruction of an area and condemning a child to a certain mindset/way of life. Lastly, perhaps the holy grail and fuyuki fire opened Kerry's mind and made him realize that his methods would result in the death of everyone because no one would be safe from him whether guilty, innocent, minority, or even majority. I also think the grail wish was a reflection because it gave Kiritsugu exactly what he had been doing his entire life and nothing more. It could not offer a miracle because Kiritsugu didn't have any other method beyond killing.

    • @jeffreyherrera5069
      @jeffreyherrera5069 Год назад

      That's what makes him such a compelling character. He's always had different shades of gray in every situation he's been in. He didn't want to kill his first friend and tried sparing her, only to condemn the village in the process (albeit inadvertently). He kills everyone on a passenger plane, including his surrogate mother, all to ensure that a possible disaster could be contained and mitigated, even if it means killing those who weren't already infected with the bugs by some miracle. Even the hypotheticals he encountered while inside the grail has him trying to save as many people as possible at the cost of others. Yes, he ends up sacrificing the majority regardless once the hypotheticals build upon themselves and branch out, but he never loses that sense of moral ambiguity and joylessness at having to make such taxing decisions.
      As for the Fuyuki fire, he only saved Shirou, but it wasn't for a lack of trying. He tries finding any survivors and quickly loses hope once the few he found and extracted from the ruins burned to ashes in his arms. By the time he found Shirou, he was passed the point of despair, which was why he was so relieved that he found someone who didn't die in his arms within the first 2 seconds of pulling them out of burning debris.

      The Grail is practically omnipotent, but not omniscient. It cannot bring forth a world that the holder cannot imagine. At the end, Kiritsugu believed he sought the Grail to save the world, but the truth was he sought the Grail for it to save it for him.

      Yup! Essentially every Fate series barring the main Zero/Stay Night series is an AU.
      Fate uses AU stories to mix up its formula for fun twists a lot, and it makes for some cool what-ifs like a faction-based 14 servant war in Fate/Apocrypha or a foreign imitation grail war in Fate/Strange Fake. It's fun because it lets ya enjoy a lot of these stories out of order since they're mostly independent, but that's also part of why some people find the series confusing.
      The main series is just Zero, then El Melloi Case Files, followed by whichever Stay Night series you like (there are 3 routes, and all of them have been adapted into anime at this point).

      I don't know, someone with unrealistic ideal about being a hero and actually went about trying doing it when they grown up and only fail and gain nothing but a broken mind and body do exist, I know someone like that before, when I look at kiritsugu I saw that guy too, cold, calculating, fucked up, brutal but still have good intentions of bringing salvation and ends all suffering which obviously isn't realistic of an ideal for anyone to have if anything they should grow up already but that's kinda the point of fate zero in general, cling to an unrealistic ideal and be blinded by it and only suffering will await at the end. The same thing can be said about the guy I was talking about, he abandoned , hurt and broke so many heart just to "save as many as he can" in fact the last thing he told me before he die is that "to save one you must hurt one, to save million you must hurt millions, that's what I learned after what happened and I want you to remember it too so i don't gotta see you up there way too early for your age"
      Kiritsugu is literally what a guy with a Shounen character motivation of saving the world would end up as irl if they took that shit too literally and if the guy I was talking about is anything to go by its that kiritsugu is pretty realistic for a fictional nonexistent individual, he's not flawless, he have his mental warfare with himself and he damn sure is what would happen if one were too blinded by their ideals and belief to the point they disregard everything to seek for a miracle that doesn't exist while insisting that they are right.
      The same thing can be said about you probably, you would and probably will deny everything I said here but that's just human nature to drown ourselves in our own beliefs to the point where we think we are right and they are wrong which kinda speaks for most character in fate zero, even saber if anything
      Idk if it's ironic or not but you're pretty much the type of people these type of shows are telling to grow up because at the truth of every heroic fairytale is that if it was real then it won't be so pretty , epic, noble and wholesome.
      I can tell you don't like him because of the shit he do and I'll tell ya what, that's some shit actual person with heroic morals of a generic protagonist inspiration of being a hero would turn out into in real life, hell I'm damn sure Spiderman wouldn't be so much of a smartass after few years of being a superhero due to the inevitable PTSD if he was real. You see that shit with kiritsugu if anything, at first he's literally just shirou but overtime he grew up and have a more realistic idea of how the world works so he doesn't think too unrealistically like he did before but it's the same regardless, he's blinded by ideal and belief like anyone in real life fucking would with anything in general.

    Ppl shouldn't be allowed to criticize and judge a characters nature unless they themselves have been in a similar situation. Most ppl who watch fate are children on the inside... How could they grasp the reality. We live in a society of pets and vegans too bothered by the loss of life to stomach death. Kiritsugu is literally Thomas Wayne batman... The point is there's no perfect solution and someone has to take out the trash.
