Indeed, it's a faithful port, but the horizontal resolution in the arcade original is higher and it has three scroll layers while the Genesis port has only two.

Very nice comparison video! I haven't played any Strider yet, but it's always getting recommended to me.

The arcade, Genesis, and NES ports are all pretty good entries. I'd just stay away from the Master System version, that is close to if not the worst SMS game in the library sadly.

@@retrogamingknight But what if I'm a fool that owns it already? Oh no!

@@hungrygoriya I also sadly own that game, and paid paid quite a large amount it since it's a rare title. I guess that makes me a fool too. I was considering including it in this review, but I'm not that interested in doing the bad review/AVGN kind of thing. Basically, Sega outsourced it to Tiertex and the game is full of empty levels missing most enemies, power ups, backgrounds, and sections of levels. It feel incomplete. There's 3 songs including the title screen music. Your character is missing attack animation, the sword just appears next to him, no swinging animation. Also, it runs really slow and choppy. FPS is usually around 20, and in boss fights it can drop to single digits.

I loved seeing these both. The first one had fantastic clouds and I loved the angle of your character's body when running down slopes. The second game looked really cool as well and Zi enjoy the different ways to traverse (walls and este surface). All in all I could see the wall jump section being pretty brutal - reminds me of a spot in Tiny Barbarian DX where you need to jump up into a ledge with some sort of special timing or maneuver even though it was not a significant part of the stage. For whatever, it took an insanely long time to pull it off.

Thanks for stopping by. That triangle jump in NES Strider isn't just timing, but the collision detection on walls is kind of broken as well and you'll sometimes make contact with the wall when there's a gap between your character sprite, and sometimes it right up against the wall. There were even times where the game thought I was making contact when standing next to it, and not allowing me to fully jump vertically.

I remember being destroyed by this in arcade, yet I loved it!

The music isn’t very good?? I thought this game had the one of the most remarkable soundtracks of any arcade game all time. What the..

Cool! But you should have reviewed the Sega Master System version too :)
I know people hate it, but I like it!

I'm glad that you enjoy that version, I've tried it but didn't have the patience to play it all the way through. I was considering mentioning it, but I'm in the majority of people that don't really like that game.

      @@retrogamingknight I can see why.
It's just a different game. Slower and not so many enemies, but still it's challenging and cool to explore the different locations.
I played this version first, propably that's why it holds a special place in my heart 😊

Maybe I'm crazy, but I've played all three versions, and the NES one is my favorite. It's not a perfect game (the triangle jump is super finnicky), but the NES game nails the Metroidvania formula.

I wanna see a new strider game that plays similar to dmc or ninja ninja gaiden.

I did not know about that one, but it was on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. It's apparently a remake of the original arcade version. It looks interesting, I'll have to check it out sometime.
