Didn't expect it to be so straightforward. The principles of Kanban and Agile have been around for decades, originating in Japanese manufacturing. It's honestly mind blowing that 'Agile' is sometimes considered this new revolutionary way of delivering a project when it's derived from Lean methodology. Only difference is Agile caters to streamlining a software development process rather than a manufacturing process. JIRA just visualizes a methodology and practice that has existed since Toyota first implemented these concepts in the 40's. Surprised no one thought of this before.
1:43 (ish) "It's on the team to make kanban work for you" i.e. it's not a magical lantern you rub to make magical things happen. It's a tool that can be used effectively by certain-minded people. Good stuff right there.
This is the best video I found on Kanban. I have worked in scrum team and was looking to learn what is Kanban. I went through lot of videos with similar information but this video explained it the best. Thank you
Ohh my god...Amazing, useful video...Very well presented 👍... What I understood about kanban from this video 1.Kanban is a really simple and useful system. But 2.No one in this world is capable of explaining it properly. Whenever they try to describe it they make it unnecessarily complex (exact opposite of the intent of kanban system 😂) 3.I looked about kanban in Google, Google images, other youtube videos etc...But the part that confused the most is about the words such as backlogs, WIP, etc...But after watching this video I am very clear about them and their purpose seems to be so revolutionary and its unbelievable usefulness... 4.Kanban is not just about manufacturing or production. It can be used in our daily life also.It increases productivity so effortlessly. 🎉 Kudos to the team ...Great work... 🎉❤️👍
Studied in Quality Control the concept of kanbans and did not understand it fully , looked to youtube and did not find any better explanation than this video. Thank you
A very simple so easy to understand that you immediately relate it to tasks that you have initiated and completed and you didnt realise you did implement Kanban. Ofcourse the scale of this will differ from task to task. Thank you Max
just to clarify lead time is not when you start working on a card to done. It is when the ticket arrives in your backlog to done... in Jira its the control chart and by choosing the right states you can either get lead time or cycle time....
Just started using Trello and your video series was a great refresher for understanding Kanban. I'd read about it before, but never put it into action. Off to a running start now. Thanks!
Love the video. Very clear and well-paced. I do think you should adjust or add onto the concept of lead time and compare and contrast it to cycle time. Maybe that's in the future installments.
How is prioritization conducted in Kanban? Does it use similar techniques to Scrum i.e. Planning Poker, MOSCOW, numbering based on team-based perspectives?
@@Atlassian Thanks for your response. My question was more general to understand what prioritization techniques are used for Kanban, and if they are the same as Scrum or different.
With Jira there is a WIP limit per column, other than aligning column WIP limit to the number of people on your team is there a way to apply a WIP limit based on a users in a Role like say Developer?
If you want to skip the fluffy bla bla bla intro, go directly to 1:52 for an overview of the Kanban concept and 3:15 for the beginning of the more detailed run-through.
it appears to me that it is very efficient method for a lengthy or complex process, so if an individual is involved in any such process, it would help to use this.
Dear film editor who added the wiggle function to the camera that was already on the tripod. PLEASE DON'T. It's annoying and illness inducing. If you really want the organic hand held look, you can make it much more subtle by increasing your wiggle cycle by 400%.
Great video! thanx. Just a notice - take care of your health - you seem to have issue with your neck and spine. Take care of yourself to give us more such videos :) Cheers.
Agile scrum and Kanban are not project management tools, they are work management tools. They have several misleading assumptions, and can lead to disaster on even a moderately complex project involving complex tasks with dependencies, vendor management, workflows etc.
How can anyone focus on what you are saying when the camera is bouncing like we are going over rt 16 in West Newton??? Oh, my achen head! Seriously, you people do not own a tripod? Want to borrow mine?
Completely agree with you! It's annoying as heck! Unfortunately, I think it is 100% intentional: this is actually a style of cinematography that is supposed to make things look "hip" and "authentic". Actually, it's just ****ing annoying right?
No, Kanban is not a Japanese word for visual signal.... Also saying Kanban board is like saying ramen noodle or ATM machine... the last word is redundant.
Clear and concise. But, you mean that you have time or opportunity to discuss the next topic. Not bandwidth, that's just pretentious, plus you can't explain more than one concept at a time anyway.

Honestly, I watched a lot of videos and this is the best and most classy explanation of Kanban. You did really well! Thank you.
This! Excellent explanation of a concept I’d never heard of one hour ago. It may be the solution to my organization woes
my man knows his stuff!

The Kanban video series are truly amazing. The way the videos are directed, produced and also the main speaker are just superb!
For an absolute novice this was a brilliant explanation. Thank you
totally agree!
This is the best video I found on Kanban.

As a salesforce trainee, I found your video very descriptive and understandable. Thank you
why is the camera so shaky all the time?
It's a real shame. I had to abort watching due to minor motion sickness. Ruins an otherwise great video.

You're most welcome! Good luck on your upcoming projects!
Absolutely nailed this whole topic of Kanban boards. Your a natural teacher and I feel myself "Flowing" towards Trello 😁
Wow! Thank you so much! You really seem to like Kanban because you explained it so well
One of the better videos about Kanban. I actually felt that i learned something, thanks!
Thank you for this succinct, precise explanation of what Kanban is. 2 Thumbs way up and this ain't a Hollywood picture.
Just started using Trello and your video series was a great refresher for understanding Kanban. I'd read about it before, but never put it into action. Off to a running start now. Thanks!
Great video! Well thought out and easy to grasp.
He deserves to be in atlassian - thankyou
This is a golden textbook example of how an educational video in general and on Kanban specifically, should be made. Nice work! :)
We're glad it was helpful! 💙
Excellent presentation. It was easy to understand and exciting to watch.
Really good explanation, eager to implement this to my day to day activities
You always benefit from the simplicity: kanban itself and the way it's presented
Thank you Jared for the intro
it's uncanny!
This is good intro to Kanban boards, it has detailed explanation and examples! I hope publish one for scrum boards as well.
Funny you should mention that, we have a whole series on Scrum as well. :D ruclips.net/p/PLaD4FvsFdarT0B2yi9byhKWYX1YmrkrpC
This video is very self explanatory. Very straight to the point and easy to understand. Please can you do another video on Scrum?
the best teacher there is
I really loved this video mainly because theory was demonstrated with practical examples..thanks..
I’m getting some solid American Airlines preflight video vibes
Amazing work, guys (also, amazing offices!!!!)
Watched kanban explanation video. Marked as done!
Excellent explanation!! Thank you
Spectacular content! 🙌
Thanks for the detailed explanation !! Appreciated !!
What do you mean by bandwidth? thanks for this video.
Love the video. Very clear and well-paced. I do think you should adjust or add onto the concept of lead time and compare and contrast it to cycle time. Maybe that's in the future installments.
How can you apply Kanban or other Agile methodology in Real Estate Development
great and easy video to understand kanban at first place.
Thank you 😊
Thank you for simplifying this
Super clear! Thanks
What does he mean when he says “now that I have bandwidth I can move on…”
I'm thinking about starting Kanban Records
Great video !clear and concise
VERY VERY WELL DONE 🎉
brilliant explanation. thank you so much!
Is kanban a job title or what job titles mostly use kanban ?
Looks like a building I have been in on 10th Ave in San Diego.
Ok that's just a team to-do list in another more visual format.
Great job!
Indeed very helpful. love you. Thank you Sir.
wow! perfect!!!! loved it!!
How is prioritization conducted in Kanban? Does it use similar techniques to Scrum i.e. Planning Poker, MOSCOW, numbering based on team-based perspectives?
By default Kanban boards sort by Rank. You can learn more about Ranking here: support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/enable-ranking/
@@Atlassian Thanks for your response. My question was more general to understand what prioritization techniques are used for Kanban, and if they are the same as Scrum or different.
Thanks a lot!

Amazing video
Lead time - isnt that cycle-time times the length of the backlog? You just said in the video that cycle-time was the same as lead time...
Microsoft Teams with Power automate works very well.
Is that Atlassian JIRA org ? Nice office :)
Btw very well explained KANBAN
thanks a million..
Just realised I've been doing a scuffed version of this with several columns of jobs in an word table

it appears to me that it is very efficient method for a lengthy or complex process, so if an individual is involved in any such process, it would help to use this.
The visual signal I'm getting motion sickness from the vibration of the whole damn video!
wow! you are good in it.
great explanation really thank you
Perfect!!.
04:00 examples of correct/practical tasks/projects resolution would be helpful
please do more videos on devops
We will pass it on!
This guy is damn good! Either promote him or get him to do a video on Scrum too
We have a whole scrum series. Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/b02ZkndLk1Y/видео.html
1:23 - Starts here
Brillient explanation :)
very nice video
thank you, i've always in German
great video keep it up
Good video.
Link in description delivers a 404, because it has a colon ":" in the url.
Thanks. Corrected.

Cool video, yet I have no idea why a person who was filming this dude has such shaky hands =D Gyro stabilizer mb?
A lot people not at their desks doing work. No wonder Jira is so buggy :P
Thank you!
Nice video. Tripod was missing.
What is bandwidth?
Wondering the same
Why your camera is dancing
Great video! thanx. Just a notice - take care of your health - you seem to have issue with your neck and spine. Take care of yourself to give us more such videos :) Cheers.
the audio is very low
Still didn't get it
@@gl9500 ohhhhh it's literally updating every action you take to get a process complete damn thank you so much
great video
Thanks for watching.
that shaky camera is making me dizzy though
It must be me because after looking at the comments I still don't know what kanban is.

Ok, after the bumpy intro, great video. I using Kanban because it is available but it does look like this is all the issues with Agile and then some.
This. Sweet Geezus the bouncing.
Completely agree with you! It's annoying as heck! Unfortunately, I think it is 100% intentional: this is actually a style of cinematography that is supposed to make things look "hip" and "authentic". Actually, it's just ****ing annoying right?
It made me slightly seasick and definitely took up some bandwidth in my brain trying to figure out why it's so bouncy. hah.
LOL I know that road!

Kanban (看板) does not mean , 'visual signal' in Japanese. It means a billboard or noticeboard etc. I think that's taking it a bit literally.
