    Childhood memories for sure.
    Grandfather had 3 Model 6’s. Two configured as cable hoes one for crane use.
    Company had its heyday in the storm drain & sewer pipeline contracting boom of the 50’s & 60’s.
    Los Angeles & Orange County California.
    I admired the skill and toughness to operate these clutch and brake rigs.

    Hard for me to see these as "Historical" since they are the machines I grew up with in rock cuts loading shot rock. The quarries used track loaders mostly unless we were shooting for aggregate then the shovels could load. Rip-rap and derrick stone was too big of course. Wish I had movies of those days. Some are around somewhere but very few. Lots of dams, power plants and grass roots interstate construction.

      I assume a Murphy. They are legendary for starting in any weather.

    That operator thinks that shovel is going to take off like an helicopter 🚁🚁

      Sometimes called "round robin". It saves the swing clutches, you only start and stop the swing once per cycle instead of twice. I've seen old videos of this being used in production.
