    I can not watch that music video without crying. Shia LaBeouf is so brilliant and he portrays such a broken person in that video. It's a phenomenal performance.

      JD Sutherland omg me too the last bit got me because it's about a disease spreading and the cage is the disease and Shia and Maddie are it's next victims. Through the video Maddie and Shia both want to escape and end up fighting each other to escape from the disease. Maddie gets out ok but Shia doesn't in the end. Maddie is pulling him and tugging him so much trying to save him but... when his face has no expression and his hand falls, he died, Maddie still trying to save him. Sad.

      TheYTChronicles And if You can't read a comment and realize when someone is just using the statement to explain that it touches them deeply, not actually crying, then YOU need to get a fucking grip! What a tool you are. A bit afraid of your emotions are you? Kind of a strong and over dramatic response to someone simply expressing feelings isn't it? I mean what was the point of the rude comment? Does it make you feel better to get on the internet and randomly attack someone because You yourself are afraid of expressing any emotion besides hate? Makes no sense, and again, it very much sounds like you're the one who needs to get a grip. Smh

An inner child that we still have living inside of us all although there are many people who will try to not give in to what they know is true. The inner child is trying to bring them back and this video is so inspirational for doing that. [ 12 ] year old Maddie Ziegler contains everything you need to bring a person back to the joy of being a studious actress full of what preteen passion is all about. AND [ SIA ] IS DRESSED IN HER BEST PURPLE RUNNING SHOES! ;) :) ;) [September/19/2022] The Story behind Sia's Elastic Heart Music Video! l The Edge @ 5,814,011 views! ;) Does anybody realize that Maddie Ziegler has a birthday coming up in just [ 11 ] day's from today???? I absolutely got the video as metaphor between the younger, wilder, less restrained self and the self that is older, jaded, unable to break free from all the heartbreak and disappointments endured but still wanting to reconnect with the inner child. It's one of the things that struck me first time watching it, and it just floored me. Well done!

    I honestly felt the whole Father-Daughter vibe. I thought it was a story about a father and daughter trying to reestablish or "rekindle" their relationship sort to speak, but when they do try, there's a lot of problems and obstacles from one another that they can't reform that bond and they both get stuck with trying. I don't know if I explained myself well, but that's a jist of what I felt.

His existential crisis lasted too long and i hope he found healing and focus in being part of this amazing project. The entire point of the music video is to arouse curiosity, wonder or even outrage. Basically to poke and rattle some skulls. So it is little wonder why she would cover her face; the best guess would be that she is still provoking thought and wonder. People see her face being covered and they start to wonder why, once the "why" enters the mind your own psyche will begin the natural process of seeking to make sense out of the unknown.
      This process in and of itself often reveals who you are inside because the place where most people start is usually themselves. People will start to project themselves unto the unknown to see how it relates to them. If one is critical enough and clever enough they will actually begin to "discover themselves" by such cleverly crafted art. This whole form of art is very akin to Zen Buddhism.

      there are several reasons. One being she is shy, and wants to live a normal life. If she showed her face in recent interviews then people would have a constant reminder of what she looks like, and would be able to recognize her in public.. but because she keeps her life so private, she doesn't get recognized in public like she used to. Its an experiment for her, and she said herself that it seems to be working. I love the idea, it makes everything feel artistic on another level.

    I really hope 'Dressed in Black' would conclude the trilogy. 'Chandelier' is about "holding on for dear life"-saving oneself, despite having to be always on edge and having to do all of it alone.
    'Elastic Heart' is about ending a civil war, an inner battle, from which the protagonist is able to victoriously save herself, only to find out that there's a part of her that's forever lost and could never be rescued.
    'Dressed in Black' is about salvation. Sia eliminates the element of solitude and unreliability, but keeps the brokenness of the protagonist. This time, she gives up "holding on for dear life" and dresses in black to mourn the death of her own "self-state", but she won't have to be alone-someone comes to rescue her, and she regains hope and purpose.
    If Sia could add just one last piece though, I think 'Burn the Pages' would be a perfect ending to the storyline I have in mind. A happy ending, that is, to finally live with love and hope, to burn the pages and let them cook.

    When I watch this
    I think of the cage as the guy's mind
    And the girl as his younger self from what he remembers in his mind
    And it shows how he was reckless and made many regrets when he was younger
    And he's looking back on it annoyed and frustrated so he fights with his past, he wants to change his past
    But the past is out of his reach- his past and memories can pass through his mind (the cage) but he is stuck and can't follow as his mind is in the present only
    Then the past climbs onto his back like an extra weight dragging him down
    But this forms into a hug, which signifies him beginning to accept the loss of his youth and his regrets
    He realises that he wants to relive his memories by the end
    So when his younger self leaves his mind (his memory is fading)
    He doesn't want to forget it
    So he can't let go (of her hand)
    His heart tries to stretch to her like a rubber band (but an elastic is easily broken- he can't bring back what's been done)

    It's weird how Sia doesn't want her face shown, and they do that in this video by covering her face but they don't keep it consistent? They cover it some times, and other times it's not? They might want to fix the editing a bit here

      Sia has been around for years . There are videos of her singing showing her face because of her reputation she never made it , so she wrote for other singers . But they were making the money and the fame. Gimmick time;;;;;( tell everyone she don't want to be seen, recognized or be famous . Sing facing the wall put a little girl to dance like she is having seizures doing demonic facials Illuminati eye gestures looking like she's naked and just escaped from a mental hospital. Appeal to pedophiles create controversy according to Abby ; controversy bad or good ; people are talking that's success .

    "Elastic Heart" is an amazing video. The controversy surrounding it is unfortunate, and it could have been avoided - and the intent and meaning made much clearer - if Shia had simply been wearing a Sia wig, too.

    • @hiddentalent8039
      @hiddentalent8039 9 лет назад +57

      Shia was making it personal as well as Sia. So it's really about both of them. Anyway if he wore a wig it wouldn't be taken seriously. People would just laugh at it

    • @DanceOn
      @DanceOn  9 лет назад +17

      Joe Smith Super interesting thought! You're probably right that people would just laugh at Shia in a wig.

    • @violetxoxox
      @violetxoxox 9 лет назад +10

      Joe Smith It's likely some people would laugh, sure. But the subject matter and presentation is serious enough that I think they'd stop laughing pretty quickly and I think it would have been even more powerful. If the point behind the wig is to 1) represent a variety of Sia's self-states and 2) allow anyone to take on the Sia role, then IMO the wig should be worn by any artist, female or male. Personally, I think men wearing the wig worked beautifully in the "Sia performs Chandelier with NYC Gay Men's Chorus" video. Bust the gender boundaries, I say, and go the full distance. To have two people playing aspects of the same person without any indication that's what's going on is confusing. To have to explain the premise to people waters the message down.

    • @hiddentalent8039
      @hiddentalent8039 9 лет назад +5

      violetxoxox I personally wouldn't find it funny if he wore a wig but I think the main reason behind Shia not wearing it was to let the video be relatable to both genders. If he wore the wig it would seem like he was playing the role of a woman IMO.

    This music video is pure art. I love that there still is content like that out there, that is not shallow and only includes women dancing at a pool in bikinis. That's what we have seen a million times and it does not give me any deeper thoughts or emotions. I am just kind of sick of these music videos that reduce people to their bodies and are all the same. Sias music videos truly are art and different. You have to really think to understand them and it is emotionally touching.

    For those who ask why does Sia cover her face is so that we can focus on her art and emotions of her work. When I look at another artist I like their song but in my mind its just another celeb but with Sia its like you have to talk about her and her face been cover that leads to pulling your attention into her Art...Maybe its not just for us but for future generations to understand that a pretty or famous face or even been rich is not the only thing there is to life that there is something more and something you can enjoy and create...I love Sia and I was a Hardcore Hip Hop song listener mad love and respect to Sia

      I think Shia chooses not to get out. He tells himself that he can't get out that he is stuck in the cage but the viewer knows otherwise. At one point of the video he reaches at the girl and both shoulders are through the bars. Also, we know that he is strong enough to get out of the top. He probably does really want to leave the cage and have freedom but he tells himself he can't to cover up the fact that he doesn't want to face his fears.

    Shia nailed it when he said listening to her music is like reading a diary. If you listen to songs like "Breath Me" & "I'm In Here", there's alot of hurt and loneliness there. The same with "Chandalier". Casting Maddie back as a young Sia was great. The girl is an amazing dancer. But I'm still confused on why Shia was cast. Why not an older adult woman?

      My best interpretation is that maybe she liked the idea of his clearly masculine and adult image representing her raw 'maturity'. The image meshed in an interesting way while fighting with her child self. It makes it that much more powerful during the parts where Maddie is the one actually scaring/taunting him- seeming to represent how emotional and complicated battles of the mind are.

    I may have projected a little... I thought it was two people in the throes of some kind of dysfunction (like addiction) and in the end one escapes and tried to take the other with them but can't. But that's the beauty of art, it is what it is to the observer. Also I did not like Shia before this and I REALLY do after seeing him in this video. He's able to portray so many emotions and feelings without saying a word. Very impressive. They need vehicles like this for his kind of talent.

To me it was a very innocent and beautiful performance. it meant a lot of different things to a lot of different people. some people saw father daughter (me too) but others like Shia saw the girl as an extension of himself. Sia may see it the opposite way as the girl being a childlike version of her and Shia being an extension of herself or someone in her life. That's the thing about art, it knows no true boundary.

    Dang. I was way off.
    I looked at this and though that Shia represented the Heart, and Maddie the Brain.
    I thought of it as something like being in a very bad relationship.
    The Brain is telling you to leave, to fight against the Heart that wishes to continue to love, that wants to stay.
    There are moments when they almost agree, though the Brain once again disagrees and fights back.
    At the end, the heart is finally ready to let go, until the pain is to much, that the actually person dies of a broken heart ..
    Though that's just what I thought. Of course, taking into consideration of the lyrics. 😭😂✌🏻️

      I love to see everyone own way of interpreting the song, like yours the brain and the heart fighting the feels of love; others like fighting your inner demons; a father daughter relationship; I love every interpretation and it makes you see it in many different ways. why do people not like it? cause they have no taste. it's weird because, if it were the other way around, a grown women and a boy there wouldn't be nothing wrong. sometimes it's not a single mother sometimes it could be a single father and his daughter. who knows what life can throw at you.

    The video WRECKED my dang heart that I cant even listen to the song anymore without getting that feeling...like u know how your chest swells and u feel deep sadness and pity for someone? Thats the feeling I get. Not only that but Im one of those people whos trying to make peace with their inner child. I feel like most ppl dont care but for some reason I do. I wasnt happy and lost myself growing up. My parents divorced and then i just became so freaking angry, withdrawn and even worse DEPRESSED. I battled depression for years but now im getting better. I let my inner child come back and shes like the sun in my skull. I hope everyone else can find healing too.
    One question tho...is Shia crying near the end or was that sweat? I like that he and Sia are friends!

    everyone that’s saying it’s about pediphilia read this. sia and her father had a mental illness when sia was younger. The cage represents the illness, they couldn’t get out. the illness caused them not to get along, and sia finally escaped the illness but she left her father behind because he couldn’t escape, he wasn’t mentally stable enough.

    I think this fantastic video says something to each person who views it. As a "survivor" of sorts of multiple familial suicides, the video speaks to me of mental illness. Mental illness can be hereditary, so I feel this is particularly, the relationship between a father and his daughter. Both are always struggling with mental illness, and it makes a "typical" father/daughter relationship challenging, if not nearly impossible. Him nervously touching her face with velvet gloves, them fighting for each other, trying not to give up on one another. ..... him disappearing into his own dark depression in the end. Even though she's fighting tooth and nail to save him, with all her might, but she is still unable. We need help...... The dancing is exceptional! Go Maddie & Shia!! It's absolutely beautiful!! BELLA BRAVA!!!!!!

    I still think this is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. I relate to the struggle between the many versions of ourselves we all possess. Everybody has a monster inside. Most people are lucky and never see theirs. It stays silent and asleep and they are blissfully unaware they have one. For the rest of us, that monster is something we'll battle for the rest of our lives. We know our monster all too well. Some days, the monster wins but there's no joy in it's victory. The monster isn't happy, it's broken and it hurts and even the monster wants it to stop.

      +Kat Hutton I agree... I think Our perception of adult/child interactions are so overshadowed by paedophilia that we see it in every interaction that is not rigid in nature or between parent and child... Just because, in a moment of portraying a scene, an adults hand grazes a child's back or they are supporting them in a position that requires their hands are to be placed on the upper legs/buttocks/chest area, does not mean it is with sexual intention or that any sexual thoughts passed through their heads. The same goes for nudity... you get nudist communities where children and adults are in each others company without clothing. There is nothing disgusting or sordid about this... it is societies over-sexualising of nudity that makes it appear sordid

    Oh no, I badly miss read this 'Elastic Heart' video... When I first saw this I was blown away by it but I thought it was about a couple going through alcoholism or some kind of drug addiction and one of them managing to get out, then coming back to save the other, failing, and witnessing other sadly dying. Wow, I read into thing way too deeply.

    • @pauletteleroy
      @pauletteleroy 9 лет назад +8

      wow that was a great interpretation! I also think its not far off at all. Sia has fought many demons (i.e alcoholism,drugs, and her mental state-depression) these could be the very things that her warring sides are fighting. (inside her head). with that being said, I think its so beautiful and touching.

    • @rai4119
      @rai4119 9 лет назад +2

      Woah...
      Okay, wow. I kinda saw it as a couple thing too, but not that deep.
      They love each other to an extent, but Shia is the sane one and Maddie is the feral one who may be bipolar or some form of mental. And she wants to drag him along in this game, but near the end I thought that it was Shia that realized he couldn't fit through the bar and was trying to pull Maddie back, while she was thrashing to get away.
      Misread it too.
      But no matter how you interpreted it, that ending was so sad.

    Loved Shia after Holes
    Hated Shia after Transformers 2
    Love Shia again after his breakdown/comeback.
    He has put so much passion in all the things he's done lately it's baffles me how he ended up like he did, Bay really did a number on him. I didn't know much about him until Holes and after that I knew there was something special about him, at least to me, I knew I would be following his body of work ever since that film.
    I hope he continues doing serious roles and continues to rise again and I hope he comes back for the final music video...the last part in the music video with him dying was heartbreaking.
