    Hi guys!!
I have been an AMPUTEE since 2004.
In 2000 I had a paragliding accident, after which I struggled with complications of my left leg. Constant infections and acute, chronic pain pushed me to the point where I considered amputation. Ultimately it was the right decision, which opened up a completely different life to me.
Today I am a content, happy amputee. I have good quality of life. In this channel I aim to share what it is that got me to this space. I hope that you find your own happiness, despite, and even because of, the struggles of becoming an amputee :-)

Thank you watching the video's, and for your kind and motivating words.
I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's loss of limb, it is a confronting experience for even the strongest of people. I have so much respect for your support for him, your dedication to research this process, and clearly the love and care you are showing him when he will really need to feel it.
Even though this is a potentially dificult experience, I want to give you something to hold onto. Losing my limb changed my life in many ways, but upon reflecting on this time now it changed my life for the better. I truly believe that this is possible for all of us, and wish this outcome for you and your husband.
There will be dificult days, frustrations, maybe even some anger at times, but I learnt that with knowledge, support and a sound philosophical approach to life and our realities, so much is possible.
It looks like you and your husband have decided to embrace a healthy way forward, and I wish you the best, with a good outcome and quality of life ahead.
Please feel free to join our next live stream, and ask questions if you have any, real time. The subscribers are so helpful and supportive in these chats. Also, the next video will be about how to regain your confidence as an amputee, I hope you find some value in it 🌞
Take care, and regards to your husband please.

He is recovering from GI surgery in the hospital from sepsis but he is on the upwards mend. The doctors will be sending him to Physical Therapy Rehab soon for he can learn how to transfer and use the wheelchair. I’m so thankful he made it through, the doctor told me he was very close to death. I am grateful, no other words to put it.. I love him with all my heart & so do our Sons. Finding your channel has also been a blessing and for sure I will keep watching & sharing! May the Holidays be joyful for you & your family! 😊

BK right leg since 2004, US veteran. They started giving me botox a few years ago due to my near constant infections. Works like a charm. A dermatologist is required to administer, but i swear by it, it has reduced me from getting 1-3 a year to less than 1 per year on avg. instead.

Hi David, first up, thank you for your service.
Your comment is really interesting, i've never heard of botox being used to help with infections. I'm going to look into it, thank you for sharing this info.
I used to struggle with chronic infection, but thanks to a good socket and liner now have not had issues for a few years either.
All the best with everything, I hope the infection has subsided, and your mobility improved.

@@theampedlife My first suggestion, strangely enough, is to get yourself to like, even love, your situation. If you wear shorts, you're a sight to behold. Keep strong, keep walking. Use whatever tools you have, but first and foremost, like yourself, like your new legs. (Hint: Watching someone like Chris, who works hard and enjoys life, will help immensely as you go through life. Chris is really a gift to all of us, unilateral amps and bilateral. He's wise, he's funny (don't forget, Sharon, he's so very handsome), and he knows things that most don't. I've learned a lot.)

Great video, great advice it is most important to take good care. A skin fit socket it is even more important to care for the skin as it takes all of the fiction that a liner does help with and can end up with more heat spots, small bumps or a bit of skin rash a good lotion at bedtime helps with that for me. A band-aid will help with a small blister if I have to wear the leg before it is healed, saved me many times. glad you are back

Using alcohol is really good to treat bacteria infections, but make sure you don't have any fungal condition. Once I had fungal rush on my stump skin, and wrongly used alcohol to treat it. It got so bad I had to go to the doctor. He said treating fungal rush with alcohol was the worst thing to do. Luckily he gave me some creams and rush was gone in a week.

    • @theampedlife

Thank so much for sharing your experience and wisdom! Too much alcohol on the skin can also be harmful as it breaks down the good natural defences of our skin. Thanks for a very helpful tip to us all.

I lost my leg in February due to diabetes. I started physio 6 weeks ago with my prothesis. I can now walk with a walker. I am apprehensive about walking unaided. Do you have any tips Chris to help me walk unaided? Great videos by the way.

Hi PD, thanks for sharing your experiences and loss, and sorry to hear about how things worked out. I hope you find your way back, heal well, and get to walk in comfort soon.
My suggestion is to practice with horizontal bars, first with two hands, then one, then none. Slow, patient going to build confidence and to find a gait which works for you.
Gait training is going to be essential. Also work on core strength to improve balance and from which to power the lower body, as well as to provide balance to the upper body.
You can also walk with upper arm crutches for a while to take some of the weight off the legs till you feel more confident.
All the best, please keep in touch and let us know how you progress. Im sure your shared experience will motivate others.

Good one sir, after a long journey of amputation of 6 years, I finally got an AK prosthetic with a mechanical knee joint. I feel much pressure/pain when using the liner, the pressure is much. Though this prosthetic is not up to a week I got it. Can you advise me on what to do... Thanks

    • @theampedlife
      @theampedlife  3 месяца назад

Hi Ibiang, thank you for the message. I feel so happy for you for getting the leg, it's a big step towards your ability to move freely - awesome stuff!
If you're feeling painful pressure, one of two things are wrong. Either the liner is too thick, or the socket is not a good fit. Either way you need to ask the prosthetist to take a look to help you with a better fit.
If it's the liner, it's an easy fix. If it's the socket it is a bit more complicated, and needs to be adjusted or re-made.
Your socket should feel comfortable, you should feel no pain.
I hope you get it fixed, all the best with everything.

What do you do for the sweating I have a below knee my main issue is the sweating any tips

    • @theampedlife
      @theampedlife  9 месяцев назад

Hi, this is a good question, and something not all amputees struggle with, so dificult to give a definitive answer on.
TOP TIP - get the Iceross Seal-In Liner. it is a huge step towards eliminating sweat and infections. It changed my user experience enormously.
It is important to keep the liner extremely clean. twice a day, where possible. Keep a towel handy, or even better sanitary wipes.
Use a "dry" lubricant on your skin, sparingly, not an oily one. I use Epimax (link in description) as it is water based, and I use very little at a time.
Try all these together, you might be amazed at the improvement.
All the best, let us know things got better please.
