So, regarding the thing said at 15:00 and now that Xenoblade 3 is officially a thing now, all I can say is this: For one thing, it looks like there's no voice direction issues this time, which is great. The other question is which characters could also return, especially with the two heavily implied returning characters and how the game is gonna be a sequel to both 1 and 2. For now, we can just wait and see on that front. There could always be flashbacks or other lore related things.
Now that I watched this, I completely understand some people’s disappointment with how Rex was implemented into the game. Even if it may not happen, I hope that if the Aegis made it into a future Smash game, Rex could be implemented like Pokémon Trainer where Rex moves around the stage’s background to follow Pyra/Mythra like the Trainer does with their Pokémon.
Good points on Al Weaver’s voice! He had several appearances in several REALLY good mystery shows. (TV Sherlock. And the ARG/ choose your own adventure game The Complex! Where Al shows his BEST voice acting as the best friend/love interest of the main character.) He’s not a bad actor, I said many times that the voice direction was shit. Al however isn’t a bad actor, most of the cast of Xenoblade 2 are really fucking good! And most of them went on to do other REALLY good works. Skye went on reprise her role as Mythra in Torna and damn the difference in voice direction on her part was amazing. Most newer anime studios/ games have experience in translation, so with Xenoblade going off a Japanese script. It’s REALLY hard to translate right without any mistakes/ bad input. That’s why English Subbed anime sometimes has mistakes. Same thing with Tokusatsu and any media that comes from a different country into the states or the UK really.
I haven't watched all of the other things Al Weaver was in, but one I did see a snippet of was in that one DOOM movie from the early 2000's, where he actually hid his accent for his character, which I thought was really cool, even if that movie was very unfaithful to the game from what I've heard. 😅 Anyways, thanks for telling me more about the other stuff that he was in, and I'm glad you concur with the things about the voice direction and whatnot.
Just as good as the main video. I have an anecdote to share, before playing Xenoblade 2, I thought it was going to be great, because it was going to be fun. I told myself that the dubbing was going to be nanardesque that I was going to be laughing at each cutscene. But when I finally played Xenoblade 2, I never laughed because of the voice acting, I laughed yes but because there is a lot of comic scene in Xenoblade 2, the voice acting never made me to laugh. Yes, I'm French-speaking so it's harder for me to see when an English text is badly dubbed, but sincerely apart from 2-3 scenes where Rex shouts, and the "join me" from chapter 7 at no time did I thought it was badly dubbed. Besides, I showed several friends to make them want to play Xenoblade 2 the wonderful video "Tell me, do you love this world?" from Quantitative Fun (I invite you to see it) and each time I warn my friends by telling them "absolute prohibition to criticize the dubbing". I will even say for me as a French speaker, what bothers me the most about the most beautiful cinematic in the game is not the "join me", but the fact that they translated Pyra's magnificent declaration of love "I love this world because you're in it" by "I love this world thanks to you" (in French of course) You as an English speaker might not understand, but I can assure you that this translation is HORRIBLE, and takes away a lot from the message and importance of this scene. Today I want to apologize to Al Weaver, sorry for thinking like many that all your dubbing was bad and nanardesque, really from the bottom of my sorry heart. Today I find your performance really very good, you made this character alive and iconic for me, if I got so attached to this character and his story it is very largely thanks to you, thank you Al. Yea I know better than to blame actors for bad directing myself. I heard a chunk of the Power Rangers fandom got on the case of a pair of actors who played the comic relief duo in Ninja Steel because of all the fart jokes which anyone with half a brain would know wasn't even their faults. I personally think they did a great job with what they had to work with, even if the writing sucked. Also PSO2 Global had a lot of people complaining about the voice acting when I think it was the fault of both miscasting and bad direction. Why the hell did Kamiz get cast as a hammy scumbag like Luther? He can't do hammy scumbags, he's not overt enough. Also Buckland clearly only got cast as Risa because of 2B in spite of Risa being a brain-in-a-jar cyborg and not an android. Not to mention that Risa is ax crazy while 2B seems to have a far more subdued personality. It's not that Buckland probably couldn't do a good Risa but I don't think she brought the right energy to the role.
And thank you for your mod, it is very good. I don't know if you know, but there is a very successful mod, and very worked which replaces Shulk by Rex. The announcer say "Rex", the 3D model has been shrunk to match the size of Rex, all dialogue lines have been replaced, even Shulk's nickname in the boxing ring was changed to "the driver of the Aegis" , is safe online, there is also a second mod that changes the effect of Shulk's sword to Pyra's sword. It's not as good as having real Rex in Smash, But honestly it's cool. I never played so much Shulk, finally, Rex I mean in my life.
I think you make good points in both videos, especially defending Mr Weaver, but the rest of your points come off as you not taking random internet jokes well, like random people on the internet making easy jokes aren't coming for or attacking you personally or the property you like, there was barely any thought put into most posts. A lot of the posts you brought up as examples especially highlighted that they were just shitposts with no thought. You screenshotting them and getting upset by them gives them way too much credit and gives them exactly what those throw away comments are trying to get. Being upset by the reveal and how the character was handled and treated by the people who actually play the game is absolutely valid and interesting to talk about. Being upset by the internet being toxic is not as interesting and comes across as a kind of immaturity or a lack of understanding, like even though you are on the internet and are using the medium to communicate, you still took the negative comments to heart and scrolled through Twitter acknowledging the toxicity and letting it get to you. You even mentioned people bringing up Fire Emblem characters and advised to stay away since there are so many arguments, which like yeah, it's a tired joke that always comes up when talking about Smash, but no one should be looking at all the throw away comments or jokes with no meaning, they should look at actual opinion pieces or posts that obviously have thought put into them which highlight that the Fire Emblem characters actually rub intelligent fans the wrong way too, especially fans of Fire Emblem. You with these two videos have perfectly exemplified an intelligent fan with a good, thought out argument. You don't need to hold a 5-or-less-word Tweet to the same level as these videos, especially personally.
It'd be a nice nod to how things work in their home game. Maybe he'd just flinch before leaving. Considering the Pokemon trainer has reactions to buries and KOs, they could probably expand on this if how he's added is similar to what I talked about the in the first video.

Well I do think Rex's hate is a bit much, I VASTLY prefer having Pyra/Mythra over him. The only reason people said Rex was because that was the only option without knowing they had options. Not to mention trying to replicate base Xenoblade 2 gameplay just wouldn't work,even your video about that is flawed.(you essentially have a second hitbox that doesn't really do anything let alone defend itself becoming a liability more then anything. Not to mention the complex downsides of if Rex or Pyra/Mythra dies but not the other.) It was also a better idea on a media standpoint since the Aegis girls are more popular then him(Pyra being #1 by general community) and thier just as important to the story if not MORE really then Rex is. I guess there's also the whole "assist trophies and Mii costumes deconfirm characters" stuff which has been seen to be an accurate statement so that could also be a reason. Another thing is that.....you're taking all this hate a bit TOO seriously, especially since it's on.....y'know.....the INTERNET! Where nothing truly matters in terms of personal opinions. I much prefer Pyra and Mythra over Rex being playable in Smash as a surprise I didn't know I wanted until I received it, and I also think they gave Rex a fair treatment(and kinda made him better too)

But since I ended up writing a lot more than expected TLDR: Fans probably weren't pulling a 180, they just were hedging their bets to get Xenoblade 2 into smash at all, and I still don't like Al Weaver's original performance. To start with the less opinionated one, something you, and many people I see not considering, is people who want someone else from that game, but don't see them as a realistic option. For example, someone who would've wanted Zeke, or Morag in smash, wouldn't think that a side character had much chance, but still wanted Xenoblade 2 as a whole in the game, and as such, would more or less shift to voting for the most likely option, the protagonist. So while I understand that people asking for Rex, and then suddenly seeming to be glad he wasn't actually the one picked, seems like a 180, it could easily be more along that, for many fans. And, as for Al Weaver's performance, As someone who tried to get into the game itself years ago, found the gameplay unfun, and dropped it, before experiencing it through Chuggaconroy's playthrough, I really don't find myself agreeing that Al's performance is good outside of certain instances. While certainly better than expected under the circumstances, and I don't blame the actor for this, I still found myself being taken out of the story by many of his deliveries, and just wanting Rex to shut the hell up, finding him annoying and jarring. While he does have many great deliveries even one of the scenes you showed, "Do you want a kidney too?" I find to be a pretty poor delivery, not getting across how Rex is surprised, exasperated, or anything really. It just sounds like he's stating it.
It definitely would've been interesting to use Rex and the Driver system (or an equivalent of it) in the game, like how you use Hero and his spells the only issue I had was they didn't include the swimsuits UGH, if Shulk and Zero Suit Samus can wear swimsuits then surely they can as well. Sure you would have to censor Mythra's swimsuit a bit more (since Pyra's swimsuit is a one piece) but sadly no we got some colors that are meh at best Pilot outfits for some reason more saturated colors of their usual (honestly those should've just been their stock begin with) and the Bronze and Silver outfits which were nothing special
Have there ever been any female one piece swimsuits in an E10+ rated game? If not, I feel like that might have been a factor, but yeah, I do feel like the swimsuits would have been funny to go with Shulk. ZSS' isn't a swimsuit per se, but I think the bottoms cover more, even if it is showing more skin.
I just never liked Rex, so really the only reason I'd ever want him in smash is out of lack of any other options being likely. So I'd say most were "settling" for Rex if they had to. But when we skipped past him and went right to the source of his relevance, the Aegis, we were good. I personally am not too pleased with the implementation of Pyra/Mythra in many ways, but skipping the middle man was one of the best choices made.
I didn't want Rex in just because I liked him as a character but because I loved drivers and blades concept and combat. Including that and more Rex already was much more than necessity as without him you wouldn't really be representing xenoblade 2 fully and a lot of people agree with that including Sakurai as he did initially want to do that but couldn't because of hardware limitations. I really wanted Rex to do a lot more cool things as a driver in gameplay like he does in cutscene. I'm just a little sad that the Pyra and Mythra don't make me feel like I'm playing Xenoblade 2 in smash.
