Glad I'm not the only one crying to this song. ;)
Kai Hansen may not be the most schooled singer for Helloween to sing this song, but he's the first, and he's got passion.

How Tears is like a picture to me. Full of colors that match perfectly with each other. May be a other Helloween singer will have more bautyful colors htan Kai, but they doesn't fit to the rest of this picture. A good metal song has not to be beautiyful, it has to be like a picture with a good / perfect contain. Than there is no matter if there are nice colors on the picture. Than the song is able to touch you deep inside.

Together with "Victim of Fate" from their debut EP (which later on was also included on the CD-version of "Walls of Jericho"), "Ride the Sky" and "Phantoms of Death", "How Many Tears" is one of my four favourite songs by Helloween and I also consider all four of them the best of their kind. I absolutely love the guitar work, especially the guitar solos, the energy and the audible bass-playing! "Walls of Jericho" was one of three metal albums I got on Christmas 1985 and I still remember how blown away I was when "Ride the Sky" (my overall favourite song by Helloween) kicked in after the intro - one of the best beginnings of an album ever! I had gotten into metal only 1 1/2 years before (Lita Ford's "Dancin' on the Edge" being the first metal album I bought) and had had some kind of musical revelation when I heard Metallica's "Fight Fire With Fire" on BFBS in autumn 1984 and got "Ride the Lightning" on Christmas 1984, which might explain why Thrash Metal is my favourite metal subgenre, though most of my overall most-played metal albums don't fall into this genre. While not being a Thrash Metal album, "Walls of Jericho" definitely has - as also pointed out in your reaction - a thrashy sound, which might explain why it is my favourite album by Helloween. Since I mentioned Metallica's RTL, the beginning of Helloween's song "Gorgar" (also on their debut album) actually sounds very similar to the beginning of Metallica's song "Ride the Lightning", but I consider the latter far superior to the former. I might not listen to "Walls of Jericho" very often anymore, but when I do, I enjoy it as much as way back then. I also did enjoy the follow-up (though less than "Walls of Jericho"), whereas already their third full-length KOTSK Part II wasn't my cup of tea anymore.
I also have got to say that I liked many of the lyrics on "Walls of Jericho" as well as their debut EP (which I first heard after "Walls of Jericho") very much. While lyrics are not as important to me as the music, they can make me like a song even more, and the lyrics of "How Many Tears" are my favourite ones on "Walls of Jericho". They reflect a lot of what I felt way back then e.g. when thinking about the confrontation between NATO and the Eastern Block - while living in West Germany, I had a pen-friend in East Germany who also was a metal fan and whom I visited once each year (it wouldn't have been possible the other way round, since this was before the fall of the wall) - and all the injustice going on in the world, especially all those bloody military regimes, many of them in Central and South America, but also in Africa and parts of Asia. There were a lot of things to be angry about - probably another reason why I liked Thrash Metal so much. Well, there still are lots of things to be angry about nowadays, so it's not as if the lyrics of "How Many Tears" have lost any of their meaning over all those years. Talking about lyrics in songs by Helloween, while I'd put "How Many Tears" at the top, "Phantoms of Death", "Guardians" (both on "Walls of Jericho"), "Judas" (originally released on a maxi-single, but then also included on the CD-version of "Walls of Jericho") as well as "Warrior" and "Cry For Freedom" (both from their debut EP) follow close behind.
Edit: I'm sorry to say this, but the lyrics are in absolutely no way related to the situation in Germany after WWII! Immediately after WWII, times might have been hard for many Germans, but it's not like this had been going on for years or even decades, especially not in West Germany. Already a few years after WWII, economy in West Germany was growing rapidly. The time from the early 50ies until the early 60ies is also refered to as the time of the "Wirtschaftswunder" (which means "economic miracle"). The members of Helloween were born in the first half of the sixties, thus in no way had they experienced anything of what had happened close to the end of WWII or in the time immediately after it. The lyrics are about things going wrong all around the world in the middle of the eighties when the album was realeased. When the lyrics say "In other worlds the children die, lacking food, ill from a fly", it's obvious that this isn't about Germany, but about the countries of the so-called Third World, especially the situation in Africa, where millions of people were suffering from starvation. "Ill from a fly" obviously refers to people infected with malaria which is transfered by the tsetse fly (also mostly in African countries). Just remember the all-star projects Band Aid and the American counterpart USA for Africa, both of which happened in 1984/1985!
"Oppressed by troops to tame their land" refers to people being oppressed my military regimes which there were still quite a lot of in the eighties, but definitely not in Germany. Germans were not "oppressed" by allied troops.
"And the Russians won't be so late, Uncle Sam don't wanna wait" also refers to the situation in the middle of the eighties. There was the so-called "arms race" between the United States and the former Soviet Union. After the latter had stationed SS-20-missiles in Eastern Block-countries, Nato had decided (in response to this) to station intermediate-range missiles and cruise missiles in Western Europe, and in 1983, the government in West Germany decided that these missiles could be stationed in West Germany.
BTW, when the Beatles first played in Hamburg, the members of Helloween weren't even born. I don't know if I misunderstood you, but I don't see that the Beatles directly or indirectly influenced Helloween. At least as far as their music is concerned, they were influenced by different metal bands from the late 70ies/early 80ies. E.g. in an interview in a German fanzine from 1985, Kai Hansen mentioned that they were - among others - influenced by Judas Priest and Accept.

Kai's vocals are definitely grittier than Kiske's. Kiske has a much cleaner and pristine tone. And maybe it's just me, but I came to discover that Andi Deris seems to possess the best of both worlds - that gritty raspy element that Kai had, but he could also deliver a cleaner sound like Kiske.

I know I'm a couple of months too late on this one Sistah, but I just wanna say I love that you have reacted to this song! It's my favorite by Helloween, and has been ever since I heard it. I think the bets version is on the "Live In The UK" album from 1989. That live version with Kiske on vocals is something truly extraordinary! And if you didn't know, Michael Weikath, who was one of the two main composers for Helloween at this time (and still is) wrote this song as a ballad names "Sea of Fears" for his school band SAS, way back in his middle school days?! He brought that song with him to Helloween, and presented it to Kai Hansen, the other main songwriter in the band. They discussed how the ballad might not be a great fit for Helloween, and so Weikath re-wrote it as a power metal song. I don't know if I prefer one or the other, but I think the ballad is definitely worth listening to as well: ruclips.net/video/YzrcVp-zmQU/видео.html

Like everyone has been doing Helloween reactions for the last week. Those guys chose the band name well.
Also, in case anyone still wondering why Metal is so popular in Germany: Cause a big bunch of all the subgenres were born, raised or pefectionised here, by german bands and musicians. And germans are meticulous to the T, when they create something they will twist it until it works (I could or could not be hinting towards the US, where Symphonic Metal pretty much originated, but within less than 3 years was completely taken over by Finland, Netherlands and Scandinavia, to be shaped into something very different and glorious).
PS: The Beattles are the origin of everything Good and Bad in nearly all genres of music for the last 40 years. That's what I learnt during music theory lessons in Germany at least.

This is what power metal was about...taking the energy and tempo from the thrash and put it toghether with the melodic and good singer from the 80's heavy metal. World War II still is an important part of German education and the German mindset.
But I believe the song was more about the political situation in the 80s. The Cold War was at its peak, jets were flying close to the ground (warfare in the sky). On public buildings there were Wanted posters of RAF terrorists, even in small villages where terrorists wouldn't go voluntarily.
I was too young to realize everything what was going on then, but in hindsight I'd say it was an interesting time.

You are "suprised how thrashy it was"...That's the perfect point...
Please check out Venoms official lyric video of "Long Haired Punks", pause it at 1:45, and the most exiting discussion you can think about (as a metalhead) will start...
You will never ever use words "definitivly" and "powermetal" in the same sentence...(I once heard you saying it.)

on my end, I can't get into Kiske singing this song. as I grew up listening to this sung by Kai. But...I can never get into Kiske singing Deris songs or vice versa. and as for the "corny" and "cheesy" stuff, depends how you grew up. I grew up listening to power metal, punk, underground metal, thrash. and the corniest I have ever seen is the whole "core" and "emo" explosion in the 2000's. Also, I'm new to this channel so excuse me for not knowing her name, but she is super adorable. her reaction was great. She really felt the music and appreciates how Kai's voice carries the message.

It isn't Thrash neither "Thrashy". It is called Speed Metal.
Back then, when the only genres we had were Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal, and Hairspray Metal, we got really confused when Helloween came out. There wasn't any genre that we could fit them to... It was fast, but it wasn't Thrash Metal. We used to call Helloween "Iron Maiden on speed". The terms power metal and symphonic metal came many years later.

To deflect and reject things like "cheesy" silliness, one must put up walls against it.
To accept it, the walls come down (or never go up to begin with).
It's much easier and takes far less energy to just be free from the walls (of Jericho? lol) and let loose than to try and keep those walls up.
I was the same way - in fact, I dropped Helloween in 1990 cos "Pink Bubbles Go Ape" was just too goofy for me. Not "metal enough", lol. I disparagingly called the band "Melloween".
But fast forward many years, and when a Judas Priest tribute album gave me the opportunity to hear Helloween again, I really enjoyed their cover of Electric Eye, and felt the new vocalist, Andi Deris, may have "redeemed" the band in my eyes (and ears). Sure enough, I missed out on A LOT. But now my Helloween collection is caught up. Pink Bubbles is still goofy as hell (as was the follow-up, Chameleon), but there are some good tunes indicating the band was getting back to "real metal".

Haha, oh, you know how it is ; YouTurd's "we'll decide what you wanna see" algorithms flitering out my subscription channels and bombarding me with other stuff - some of whcih was actually pretty cool.. and then this Coronapocalypse hit and I've just been driving myself around the bend on an emotional roller-coaster trying to keep tabs on what is really going on as opposed to what MSM tells us. And there's all the US election chaos... Life in 2020 is a real gong show, is it not? LOL
I only recently started remembering all the channels I had not "heard from" in a long time, so I figured I better pop in to them all directly/manually and see who was still making content! Glad to see you guys are still alive & kickin!
I hope you guys are staying sane in light of all the current events, and are not being duped by the elites. and their puppets. It's a sinister time, and scary as hell, but one small beacon of hope I try to cling to is that people are beginning to catch on and refuse the narratives being pushed on us. So maybe we - along wit hlogic and common sense - will all prevail... but it won't just happen on its own. We're all gonna have to take a stand like we never have before. I don't mind telling you I am still a nervous wreck most days knowing what I know now, and worried not enough other people know it yet themselves - but I try to stay focused and take things day by day, doing my part to rouse the still-sleeping. It's a mix of good signs and bad signs.
Anyway, enough of the gloom & doom - unless it's in the form of Type O Negative reactions/reviews! :-D Now that I've interacted with your channel, hopefully YT puts your latest uploads into my daily recommendations and main feed.
Stay safe, stay well, and most of all, stay vigilant!
      :-) Cheers!

Based on everything else you said, I would highly recommend you AVOID the Rainbow Stargazer reaction lol because it's probably going to piss you off. If you choose to watch it, don't just dismiss it because I use clips from outlets you don't like. Focus on the information being said because that's what matters after all. Haha, I did exactly that ; I went to your main videos page and got caught up on the bands and songs that I found interesting, and of course all the Halloween editions! :-)
I'm not sure what "Rainbow Stargazer" is, but I shall proceed with caution if I elect to check it out, lol....
And upon checking for it, I saw the disclaimer, so now I know what you meant and what it likely contains, lol.
All I am gonna say about the situation is that the evidence is now come to light, that it was NEVER about a virus (the pandemic was just another cog in the wheel of a much bigger machine) ; it was and still is about a power grab to destroy the economy, so that people lose their jobs and independent sources of income (and in turn, freedom), then become dependent on the government with the free money and debt forgiveness traps (enslavement), and once they have us all by the balls that way, that's when they roll out the "vaccine" and hold our "welfare" for ransom unless we submit to take whatever they tell us to take (junk t okeep us all sick and stupid and docile, but still productive enough to provide slave labor), believe what they want us to believe (2+2=5), and do as we are told. And before you call me a conspiracy theorist, do a Google search on the "covid isolation facilities" (internment camps) that are actively being built all around Canada (where I live). There are a couple close to the 2 major cities of Alberta (one of which I live in) and other one in Manitoba.
The virus was/is a means to an end ; a weapon to instill fear in people and make them compliant and obedient, and becoem so despondent and despressed (ove rthe lockdowns and decimated economy) in addition to the fear of a "deadly" virus, that everyone is doing just as they did in the wake of 9/11 ; surrender the last of their freedoms & liberties to be "safe".
I aint buying that crap. What was supposed ot be a 2-week quarantine/lockdown has been dragged on for over 6 months and just gets more ridiculous and tyrannical every few days. The jig is up, the cat is out of the crap bag. Crisis OVER. Time for everyone to say eneough is enough and take back their lives, their jobs, their rights & freedoms - cos they sure as hell will not be given back to us. Freedom is one of those things that is never given, it always must be taken.
Time to fight all the unreasonable mandates and rules that make no sense and have already been proven to do more harm than good over a virus that is only mildly more aggressive than the common seasonal flu, and is only a legitimately lethal threat to select age groups (elderly) and high-risk health conditions (compromised immune systems and/or other pre-exisiting conditions). The masks and the lockdowns and quarantines and restricitons are all exercises in grooming us for more sinister shit to come down the pike. And it is coming, the longer we keep acquiescing and "going along to get along", things are gonna get worse and much more bleak.
We already have camps going up over here, and who knows what is being done in other parts of the world that have not been uncovered yet?
Anyway, I'm ranting and saying too much... so I'm gonna take your advice for now, and maybe skip watching the Rainbow video at the moment, but perhaps I'll come back and check it out later when I feel less agiatated, lol.
I'm definitely open to a discussion, some back & forth, weighing/evaluating evidence, sifitng the true science and facts from the quack mad-science that is being thrown at us from all sides - but it's probably not wise to have such discussions here on these comment threads on your channel, lol. Maybe we can arrange something on another platform or means of communication for a more in-depth chat over "hot button" topics like the Coronapocalypse, lol.
I'd like to do my part to keep your channel drama-free, lol.
      Cheers! :-)
