Scotty Kilmer i have a 2008 mitsubishi outlander SE and the RADIATOR blew and i replaced it and its been good until yesterday now my car starts to overheat when at a stop i dont see any leaks and both of my fans work when the AC is on but i dont think the fan turns on to cool the engine what would you recommend
I like your videos Scotty. I was wondering if this test is only bypassing the switch, versus bringing the sensor over the activation temp, and testing the sensors two terminals for continuity with a multimeter. thanks
Scotty Kilmer I need help on my car. The cooling fans works fine when the a/c is on, but they don't turn on when the car turns on, in which they are suppose to. Due to this issue, the car tends to overheat at times. By any chance would you know what the problem might be? Thank you Scotty.

depends on the car, but if you have a car with regular ignition switch that uses 12 Volts and not a computer driven one, you can wire the fan off power on the ignition switch, put a relay in line with fuse, and send the power wire from the relay directly to fan positive wire.
Hey Scotty, thanks for the great DIY vids. As a novice, I've been working on my own cars for 42+ years. Right now I'm trying to resolve an intermittent hard shift condition in my 2000 Chevy Impala 3.4; the old girl has close to 218, 500 mi on her. I've been researching the issue, and subsequently replaced the transmission filter (fluid was changed only a few months ago [2,000 mi)), Replaced the coolant temperature sensor, and the radiator cap. Radiator, and cooling fans are o.k. I bled the cooling system (it's not using any significant amount of coolant), and cleaned the MAF sensor real good. The engine runs like new; I take care of my stuff; you know, regular oil changes, adding fuel injection/combustion chamber cleaner to the fuel regularly ("Chemtool B-12"), clean air filter etc. But the problem with the hard shifts persists; she goes into the hard shift mode at operating temperatures Monday I plan on taking the old girl into a local transmission shop for a diagnosis. At this point, my guess is either a bad PCS, or bad 1,2-3-4 shift solenoid. Any guesses from a pro like yourself?
This has got to be the best video I've seen. Right to the point. I've seen other videos where the guys talks too much and not saying anything. This video is awesome, right to the point. Very good. Golden.

Fantastic! I followed the instructions as described. The fan was not working. Replaced the motor and now I'm back in business. Thanks for saving me a lot of money!
you just get the one wire on the connector once plugged off the switch and connect it to any metal part of the engine to ground it. Fan should come on then
if it doesn't overheat, live with it. Often a bad computer circuit does that and they cost a tonl You could guess with a new temp sending unit for the fans though if you want an educated guess
Scotty you are a lifesaver not to mention how much money I’ve saved following your excellent advice. Your channel is the first place to go for guidance on car troubleshooting.
have the battery and alternator load tested first, places like auto zone do it free. Often a weak alternator does that, but if not, fan motors are probably worn and using too much power and need replacing
Scotty, my fan isn't doing its job, but if I bang on the fan motor it starts to go but it eventually stops and won't start again. Any idea what could it be
Carbon brushes wear out, taping might bridge the contacts briefly enough to get going but the contact is lost after the vibration is over from bangin on the fan. Get a new motor.

Thanks Scotty!!! You saved me a lot of time and money possibly!!! My fan stopped working, I pulled over and found your video, and was able to fix the problem easy! Worked perfectly! Thank you!!
The fan is new and replaced also the module. I put direct current and turn on. I connected everything then the fan didn't turn on. Changed the fuse and same problem the fan doesn't turn on while it's all connected
Scotty, I'm lost at 1:48. "You ground the wire here....then take the other end of the ground wire and put it on the negative terminal of the battery". So I just clip a wire somewhere on the white sensor square and clip the other end to the negative battery terminal? nothing is happening when I do that. What does that mean? (Maybe I'm just not connecting the wire correctly, wish you would have shown that better.)
Just wanted to add one very important tip: ALWAYS use INSULATED alligator clips when connecting directly to the battery! The fan connectors are so close to each other that they may touch, and if they do, the connecting cable will heat up like an oven element and could turn into a fire hazard.
God bless you Scotty, I went to a repair shop in Dubai. They told me that they need to replace the aux fan on my. Toyota Prado 2005, but the fan motor when I sprayed some water came back on. I also think it is the sensor or most probably the relay.
Thanks, Scotty! Just checked out a Honda Fit today and the fans weren't working. Going to go through the list with the owner and see if we get that up and running!

you're a big help... car over heated last night, so i thought i had a head gasket problem. didn't have any of the head gasket symptoms like white smoke, milky oil etc. I have an 89 veto and they do run hot. after hours of searching i saw that there was bubbly coolant seeping from the runners, but more importantly the fan never came on when i ran the car today to see where the issue originates from. ill try these 4 things in your video to see if that helps.
Do all cars have a cooling fan switch? Including a 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T 3.5? I got the main fan (left on drivers side) working but the low hasn't been coming on. I did the 12 volt jumper to the fan and I believe it came on but I need to verify that again. Old age... I enjoy most of your videos. Keep up the great work and thank you for your service!!

Scotty great videos, I am trying to get my VW a/c running and only 1 of 2 fans are working. I have replaced the 2 fans but still the left drivers side is still not working. I have a new FCM, Pressure switch and add freon that made the clutch spin so. As of now I believe I just need the drivers side fan to work and I will possibly have cold air. the car doesn't over heat and the passenger fan works with a/c on just no cold are due to drivers side fan. Thanks for your great videos and military service.
amazing dude !!! i get balls to experiment with my Nissan k10 march after watching your videos !!! my fan worked fine after connecting it to the battery. it was an issue with the wiring i guess !! thanks
thanks for your efforts impala 2012 no blown fuse all relays good fans not work good ect only with scan tool using active test please tell me about the problem
sweet, have this problem with my 04 civic, replaced the thermostat no change, no coolant in the snow in my driveway, a new rad cap seemed to work for a while and the guy I take my car to when I run into head scratchers tested the fans, said they work and figured it was a slow leak in the head gasket and keep an eye on it to be sure, so just to see, last time she started running hot i pulled over, cracked the hood and sure enough fans not running. glad to see it could be a cheap simple fix cause I really didnt want to buy a newer car and a head gasket jobs a bit too pricey for a 14 year old A to B'er (or A to Beer store) clunker
We love you Scotty 🤗💁 I was about to just buy the dang switch and possibly the fan but thanks to this video that was made to accommodate my short attention span, I will now save some money time and trouble 👍

Use 10 guage wires for your jumper wires. Scotty just sent me a video link for my o2 sensor issue which zeroed me in to a simple fix. Thanks Scotty!
Thank you Scotty! You are definitely the online Sinsei for the DIY'ers. Bless you brother 👍!
God video ,
What about if the fan speed is low ?
What's the problem u think & can we figure it out and solve it .
It is aways nice to get back to your old views, freshen up what you showed to me, thanks Scotty
Update? How did you fix it?
Hi Scotty, quick question, what if the fan runs very slow and sometimes doesn’t even turn back on, what would be the issue ? Thank you 🙏🏽
Simple , fast , enough information to get it
Thank you
Saved me a lot of money. Thankyou so much scotty!
I like this man humor. He package knowledge with laughter. What a guy.
amazing dude !!! i get balls to experiment with my Nissan k10 march after watching your videos !!! my fan worked fine after connecting it to the battery. it was an issue with the wiring i guess !! thanks
thanks for your efforts
impala 2012

Scotty is a walking, talking flow chart of car troubleshooting.
sweet, have this problem with my 04 civic, replaced the thermostat no change, no coolant in the snow in my driveway, a new rad cap seemed to work for a while and the guy I take my car to when I run into head scratchers tested the fans, said they work and figured it was a slow leak in the head gasket and keep an eye on it to be sure, so just to see, last time she started running hot i pulled over, cracked the hood and sure enough fans not running. glad to see it could be a cheap simple fix cause I really didnt want to buy a newer car and a head gasket jobs a bit too pricey for a 14 year old A to B'er (or A to Beer store) clunker
We love you Scotty 🤗💁 I was about to just buy the dang switch and possibly the fan but thanks to this video that was made to accommodate my short attention span, I will now save some money time and trouble 👍
Just watched this video and it solved my problem. Excellent !!!! Needed a new temperature sensor.
Seems like probably the best mechanic in the world. Seems like. He's been doing it for so long that it comes natural. Making me look like an idiot. Yeah same thing but just not as easy. Good job though buddy
