Troyanos died on August 21, 1993, in New York, at the age of 54, of cancer. Nine years after her death, Opera News identified this as breast cancer, initially diagnosed in the mid-1980s and later in remission, which was found only in July 1993 to have metastasized to her liver. Her earlier cancer diagnosis had been undisclosed at the time; the Opera News article, by Eric Myers, now reported that "through all her treatments, she valiantly, strenuously battled illness and nerves and kept most of her singing engagements."[39] Troyanos is buried in Pinelawn Memorial Park on Long Island. The year after her death, the Metropolitan Opera performed a concert in her memory; Music Director James Levine wrote, "The idea that we are gathered here ... to pay memorial tribute to Tatiana Troyanos is incomprehensible. What it means, of course, is that our Metropolitan Opera family has lost one of the most important, beloved artists and friends in its entire history." www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=pv&GRid=32515905&PIpi=17953269
Her voice is SUBLIME in this role. True mozartean voice.. clean line.. almost no vibrato.. amazing breath control... this sounds simple but is extremely difficult to sing... how beautiful
I think it has more to do with the special chemistry of Eric Tappy and Tatiana Troyanos; Tito and Sesto embody a strong, virile friendship indeed but I think Ponnelle wanted a hint of sensuality - Troyanos and Tappy did L'Incoronazione di Poppea in San Francisco and Tappy himself said how the chemistry was extremely sensual. It's all adaptation from Ponnelle; notice how the costumes are not exactly Roman.

Цей неповторний голос завжди торкається найпотаємніших струн душі!
This is superb as only a few others such as Maria von Ilosvay and Brigitte Fassbaender could make sense out of this aria.

Great singing and acting reduced to one word: not art but sensuality. Ok!
Hello, Daraena. I think it has to do more with friendship and (at least in this film) father-son affection, than with eroticism.
