I got one for a friend. works great. Now on FM you can turn up drive to 4 watt or so but watch SWR and key down time. I had a few KL203P with 4 fet's come in blown .keep drive down and watch temp and SWR . 73''s
Do you do repair work on the 503 HD's? I believe it needs Mofsets replaced. I might have got over driven but I'm not sure. Any which way I set it up...it won't get over 175 watts...Thx
Also 20/25w is plenty, no need to lax them out at 35w, imo 30w is too much. Also an SWR of 1.5 or lower is required, or the amplifier will die a sad death.
@@Rooster_Radio I've been looking again today at them with a 75a psu. Running them at 13.8v (Uk) and not 14.5v makes a difference does it not? You know more than me brother, I just use Fm/Ssb oppose to Am, appreciate the reply though 👍
Rooster, how much do you sell this unit for? I'm hoping they are still available in a few months from now as I plan on maybe getting possibly 2 of them. One for the house and one for my truck with dual batteries and hi output alternator.
I just bought the kl 300 p . Man it’s a good amp but the pre amp sucks because if the amp is on the pre amp stays on. You just get too much white noise . I constantly have 9 lbs of noise the whole time I have the amp on. I might buy this 703 but it’s pretty big size wise for my Freightliner. I want a Texas Star but finding one converted for 11 meters seems impossible
@@Rooster_Radio thanks I was thinking the 503. I might pick one up after Xmas . I think the Grant xl would be screaming with that next to it and the pre amp can be shut off
Been waiting for months for these to make a return on the market. The whole amperage thing has been my big concern, especially after watching a customer review where his PSU peaked at 55 amps 13.8v driving it to 500 watts output. I fear this might be too much for my radio mobile setup that uses a separate marine deep cycle not connected to the car's battery (expedient for field use outside a vehicle, and not putting the car's battery at risk of drain), and the CB home unit I try to reach with my mobile for local contact is currently set up with a 25/30 amp switcher, which sure ain't enough. I know my monster Astron 57/70M won't break a sweat. But I fear this might even let the smoke out of my cheapo beater Pyramid 52KX. Might have to move some PSU's around, or buy another one.... Thanks for the video.
I use 8 awg on mine with a 30 watt input on fm using my superstar 6900n, 8awg will carry around 180 amps so is plenty to carry the voltage from the psu.. the amp spins out a straight 400 watts on a fifty amp supply, been running it for over a year with no problems and im a rachet jaw.
Iam putting a 5 watt dead key in two my kl503 is this two mucht only have it few months and it's not Ben putting out it's correct power when iam talking but on a dead key it worcks on all settings fom on two six worcking 30amp power supply any feed back would be grateful
So that one is about twice the juice the 503 outputs. Makes sense since they doubled the MOSFETS. I just bought one!

What's dead key should I run into this?
@@jacoblloyd8851 on AM about 1 watt with swing 12 watts PEP around.
Hey mr rooster nice amp hillbilly in the bam waving your way
Power is one thing but how clean is it? I’m more interested seeing these amps tested on a spectrum analyzer.
Not bad at all , actually impressive 👍
And they keep getting better
Good video Rooster

Rm's are made in Italy, hence the Fm added with the Am, and psu required is 60amp

@@EdzashedFudwinkle 25 watts won't produce 500 watts PEP which is what they're rated at

Noob question.. Is this amp designed for CB radio or Amateur radio..? I was thinking that CB had a limit of 12 watts PEP ssb..
The switch am fm then ssb can you run it without the relay if your on ssb but have it switched to am will it damage it
What is the max dead key
5 w
2 swinging 30. Is perfect in my opinion. I run one
I like it..I like it!!

What size wire should you use with the 703
I think they recommend 8ga.

Has anyone ran the RM 7505? I believe its a 4 pill, Just curious what they are doing.
What's the difference between a 503 and a 503 HD?
503 is recommended to only take 25 watts peak. 503 hd will take 35/40
@@Rooster_Radio 25 watts peak? I never put more than 4 into mine
@@zukispur5493 you're either referring to deadkey/carrier or average power because there isnt a radio made today that only "swings" 4 watts peak.
@@Rooster_Radio sorry I meant on AM & FM. Sidebands between 10 to 15 probably
What's size power supply two drive this
If on AM a 50 amp, ssb better go 75+

Oops I only went off the manual they sed don't exceed 6w max 4 two 5 will be where its save more than likely I've damaged the amp so
mine never gets hot even at 500 watts.
