Guess I am lucky, I have never done this. I have been in maybe one site that did not work for us and we were able to move to a different site luckily. But I am also not usually staying for more than a week somewhere.
All depends on the type of campground. Most Thousand Trails you get to choose your site when you arrive. Problem with that is, you never know what’s available. Same with most national and state parks (the ones you don’t need to pre-book).
