I saw Steely Dan’s 1993 tour in San Bernardino. Ca, and Drew blew me away! The show began with an instrumental, featuring Drew, I was way up on lawn seating, the Video Screens were not running yet, and I couldn’t see who was playing guitar, I said “Holy crap! Walter Becker is BURNING!!! 😮
A bit late to the party...but Drew Zingg is by far the best kept secret in the guitar community. And this under the radar recording is a testament to his remarkable playing. Thank You Mr Ringo for sharing this with the world. The dynamic / organic tone, feel, unpredictability and vocabulary is unmatched. Todays guitar shredders can only marvel at his playing. I still dont understand why He did not establish himself as the Steely Dan guitarist after the 93-94 tours...this is steely dans loss in my book.
It is my belief that Drew knew how high expectations were for the guitar chair in 1993. He set out to blow us away. When he did, the focus became Donald, Walter and Drew. But D&W wanted it to be like the Ellington orchestra where the band was the focus and not a particular soloist. Drew was getting too much of the spotlight.and since then they have chosen excellent players who fit the bill but don't command headlines of their own.
I was at this gig in Nyc.... unreal. I think of it all the time, Drew blew me away with his taste, tone, phrasing....Priceless to have this recording! He is one of the very best.
Thanks Ringo. Absolutely love Zingg's playing. I am looking for as many audio/video recordings of the 1993 Steele Dan Tour with Zingg playing with them. They are the best stuff in my opinion. Do you have any material you can share? Thanks

Drew was one of my favorite guitarists we ever had in Tout Le Monde
whenever I hear Drew playing, I pick up my 6 stringer an practice. Ten minutes later, I quit. Just ain't gonna happen:) Thanks for posting!!
Zingg needs be exposed to a larger public. He is excellent. Nice band!
So many different styles he covers, all at once I think of Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, Robben Ford, and Al di Meola
TRY BUZZY FIETEN!!!
