Drew's playing in the 1993 Steely Dan tour was off the charts. He covered every classic solo with expertise and soul. Saw twice with Boz and once with David Sanborn. The Sanborn show, he literally stole the show.
@@neldinsky My point is that just because he played w/ this or that guy doesn't mean he's a 'household name', as far as instrumental Rock/Jazz Rock audiences go.
its a shame he could not get anyone famous for this recording.. :) Drews era with the Dan is my favorite so this is a huge treat. I read Fagen told him just please dont play anything off the records meaning the solos no problem. said the soon to be Director.. GREAT MIX GIANT TONE
If it was never recorded I submit it's not a cover; it's the song itself. edit: Hm. After listening to "Talkin' Bout My Home", an "unreleased Gaucho track"(thanks John Tabacco, et al), I'll amend my tune: I agree, nmtman, Awesome cover!)
The CD is a masterpiece. Top flight musicians, 12 great tunes. A tasteful blend of jazz, rock, and blues. In Drew's playing we hear Clapton, Hendrix, Buzz Feiten, Hiram Bullock, Robben Ford, etc.. Get the CD on amazon or dzdap.com.
I just asked him to upload it on the Tutu song live with Marcus Miller .............. OK, OK I know it's worth it so will purchase it straight away, he's totally worth minimal cost
Whole band and Drew absolutely slaying this great Fagen and Becker tune. I met Drew at a small gig he played in San Leandro CA. He was totally down to earth and said he gives lessons when I asked... still need to get my shit together a little more before I waste the guys time though, you know? Love Buzz Feiten as well... his stuff on the Neil Larsen album High Gear is particularly great. Any other great Buzz stuff anyone recommends? I do hear the Buzz influence in Drew’s style... also hear a fair amount of Robben Ford going on too.
In 'Reelin' In The Years', the 1994 Steely Dan biography, author Brian Sweet contends that in 1972, during their initial run, and once Becker and Fagen had decide to bring in David Palmer as lead vocalist for the band, these early Steely Dan live set lists included 'certain songs, like 'Megashine City' 'Take My Money' and 'Hellbound Train', which had been written specifically as vehicles for David Palmer...'. Is it possible that 'Talking 'Bout My Home', was a re-write of the earlier, aforementioned 'David Palmer vehicle song' , and Drew somehow learned that fact from Becker and Fagen themselves, and decided to name his instrumental version with its previous moniker?
tiluriso, turns out your theory was correct. A newly discovered early Steely Dan demo reel was posted recently on The Traders Den, and one of the songs is "Megashine City." It was an early version of what would later be called "Talkin' 'Bout My Home" with some different lyrics and a different, bouncy, southern feel.
That's a rhythm section that digs deep. Vinnie really has a Jeff Porcaro thing going on with the fills. Sooooooo good. Will, Vinnie, Will Lee together are masters of space together - like a great jazz trio...but with a righteous groove and altered blues licks.

ha ha, I hate you ............. just kidding, I would love to see him
Drew Zingg is a great player, incredibly underrated IMO.
Judging from the Bio above he is VERY rated. NB
incredibly unknown, hell I just ran into him by accident about 8 months ago. He is brilliant, like a Larry Carlton on steroids

many thanks Daniel ................. subscribed
Wish this album was on Spotify....
I for one am going to finally buy it drewzingg.bandcamp.com/
His tone is spectacular. This is a superb guitar album.
Drew is amazing! This Fagen & Becker composition is a great groove in which to showcase his mastery!
Oh my goodness how come I have not heard this before? This song is awesome
You can surely hear the Dan influence. Fantastic.
This song was WRITTEN by Donald and Walter.... they just never released it
Thanks for sharing! Love this song!
What an amazing guitarist, love his style, sound and choice of notes, wow!
its a shame he could not get anyone famous for this recording..

GREAT MIX GIANT TONE
Rocks that ES like nobody else except Larry C.
my head and my feet just keep on movin' !
Awesome cover of this Dan tune, never officially recorded by them. Excellent!
This reminds me of a Fagen/Becker rarity - 'Talking about my home'. Great stuff! I will buy the album. Drew Zingg is a constant inspiration.
That's because this song was written by Becker and Fagan.
Same song with a different name. You can hear SD’s version of Megashine City to see how much it changed to become Talkin’ Bout My Home.
Got the CD a while back. The dynamics shine!!!
I think I hear Stevie Ray, Jeff Beck etc = Drew

True That....I hear lots of Buzz Feiten style in Drew's playing.
Drew is killing it! Especially at the end!!
I saw Drew Zingg play with The New York Rock and Soul Revue.I hear a lot of Buzzy Feiten in his sound...which is a good thing.
Yes, Drew has said time and again that Howard 'Buzz' Feiten was a major (if not the biggest) influence on his own concept of/approach to improvising.
I saw that tour also. Awesome. I had the chance to buy his Gibson, kicking myself for not snatching it up.
Great guitarist. Truly.
Amazing!
Sounds like SD and that is a complement with the interplay of guitars drums and keys
Why did Drew not secure the gig with Stealy Dan sorry John Herrington ..... it's been a burning question for years ?
The horns have a Steely Dan feeling to them. Just imagine a straight 4 beat instead of the half time thing and it's a Steely Dan song.
Well it IS a SD song.
@@hklinker Ha, that's funny, I did not know that.
this here is some more ridiculous pickin', fantastic. I'll put him right up there with Robben Ford and Larry Carlton
nice!

It's the same tune named differently... no wonder it reminds you of it.
Very tasty!
Still gig? MIA in nyc best i can tell.
The info box mentions a version of Minute by Minute that he did. Anybody have a link?? Would love to hear that
This is an instrumental version of "Talkin' 'Bout My Home" by Becker and Fagen. I like it, but why the name change?
In 'Reelin' In The Years', the 1994 Steely Dan biography, author Brian Sweet contends that in 1972, during their initial run, and once Becker and Fagen had decide to bring in David Palmer as lead vocalist for the band, these early Steely Dan live set lists included 'certain songs, like 'Megashine City' 'Take My Money' and 'Hellbound Train', which had been written specifically as vehicles for David Palmer...'. Dan Belcher can you put up a link to that post?
Sure. www.thetradersden.org/forums/showthread.php?t=137261
Has a more steely dan sound then the early demo from the can't buy a thrill tapes and even the rougher later demo from the Gaucho sessions.
That's because this song was written by Becker and Fagan.
Reminds me of another great guitarist u never heard of Mitch Farber
Vinnie on all tracks?
Yes, Vinnie C plays on all the tracks, as well as Will Lee on bass, & George Whitty on keyboards.
That's a rhythm section that digs deep. Vinnie really has a Jeff Porcaro thing going on with the fills. Sooooooo good. Will, Vinnie, Will Lee together are masters of space together - like a great jazz trio...but with a righteous groove and altered blues licks.
