The range of Texas blues guitar styles, both rural and urban, is captured in this collection of fourteen performances by four legendary Texas bluesmen. Blazing 1991 performances by the great Albert Collins generate a heat which belies his Iceman moniker. Freddie King cooks at a full boil in a 1972 set which includes his signature song Going Down. Rare 1960 footage of Lightnin' Hopkins shows how intense the downhome acoustic blues could be. A 1968 performance by Mance Lipscomb traces the blues tradition to its work song taproot with Captain, Captain.
Titles include: ALBERT COLLINS Iceman, Lights Are On But Nobody's Home, Here She Comes (Head Rag On) FREDDIE KING Big Leg Woman, Blues Band Shuffle, Going Down LIGHTNIN' HOPKINS Baby, Come Go Home With Me, Going Down Slow, Bunion Stew, Let's Pull A Party MANCE LIPSCOMB Captain, Captain, Night Time Is The Right Time, God Moves On The Water, Which Way Do The Red River Run

@islandscrubshop that is awesome!!! Also found out a man we are related to is James F. Lipscomb many years ago he was the house of delegates in Cumberland. He has a very cool history about him. Nice to meet you too. 😊
One day I would love to see Mance's statue. I live in Alabama so not to far away.
Lightning Hopkins is another awesome blues player
Man, that’s a sportin right hand ❤️
Steve Earle said he was more in tune than his contemporaries
pray please tell the whole story
@Lowie H. He tells the story on his guitar style with Happy Traum so I’ll try and find the link. But basically having seen Lightening Hopkins and others in the flesh he said that this guy was often in tune more than the others which is something I can hear from this short video actually
Masterful....bet even his ghost is laughing with delight
The real deal. Texas meets Delta!
Excellent. Thanks for posting this.
Them licks the man is layin' on down, what an exceptional Blues artist. This is one rightous get on down Blues thumpin' Bumpin' channel. Blessings Brother
Never saw this one before. Thank you!
Awesome 👍
I like the thumb
Like all the best blues players he makes it look so easy. The essential chords and licks in the key of E is all pretty standard but to put it all together as he does without missing a beat is always harder than it looks imo
@@andrewbowen6875 I agree, it's not easy at all, even Mance misses a beat for a moment at 1:26
Just as well he had a masterful thumb. His third finger wasn't up to much here.
Almost all the old blues guys used only the first finger and thumb
To who are the monies going from the ads on this video?
probably Alan Freed or Led Zeppelin.
I'm thinking tune it down a half step for the teang affect
What is the teang effect?
Think they meant 'twang' effect, the way his bass string kinda rattles when he hits it. He smacks the thing though @@ledaswan5990
