    I have watched this series, concerning your ruined buildings. I do 1:18 scale photography, and I can see myself upscaling this to suit my needs. I am very impressed. Thank you.

    Glad to see the tutorials getting back to how they used to be, here's hoping that 2016 will be better for you than 2015 Mel, God knows that you deserve it!

    Nice tutorial, Mel. Like David Martin I have used natural sponges for more years than I care to remember. Great for marbling, base coating for wood graining and, as my good lady has just said, fab for removing makeup!

    natural sponges are far better for paint effects than man made. used to use them in my decorating days from time to time. help in making wonderful marble effects Mel.

    Congratulations to the airbrush in your toolbox! I wonder how you will be able to keep the use subtle! As your way of building is super cheap and affordable, an airbrush would increase the cost of building terrain ^^
    you will soon discover how quick and easy an airbrush will be!

      +Morten Albertsen (Mineraleater) I'm a long way from being experienced enough to be doing tutorials on airbrushing terrain, so in the meantime, I'll just be helping me speed up basecoating etc bud

    The Naught Corner really has a TV studio look to it these days and the new camera isn't leaving you struggling to find focus on close ups. Very professional... but not too professional.
    I've got a bunch of Frostgrave ruins to paint, so it looks like I'll be getting some natural sponge.
    Thanks for another great tutorial.

    Mel first can I say what a absolute legend you are! Terrain King, I'm loving all your videos it's totally inspiring. Any way, I'm building my first game board for 40K and then the new Star Wars miniature game. I've always use shop bought maps etc but I want something special. So I'm building a dessert/sandy rocky arid type map and I've got some nice cheap mdf ruined church's buildings etc. I'm planing on stippling with filler to get texture then adding rubble etc but I'm in need of advice for the paint scheme?? Can you recommend some colour for me to use as I don't think grey will fit in with the sandstone type buildings. Thanks bud. 😀

    Hi Mel. Great tutorial. I am just starting with miniature buildings. I am building a village house and want it to be white and weathered walls with briks coming out at some places. Do I put white paint first and foremost then follow up with grey tones in over brush and dry brush or other way around. Thanks in advance.

    1. I don't quite get it. you painted with cream-coloured filler on black foam board, and got a really pretty gray weathered concrete look. You also covered it with loads of rubble that looks realistic - because it is real rubble, if only very small. No I expected you to seal it and call it finished. Instead, you went ahead and painted it all gray. Now it has the colour of new concrete, not concrete that's been around the corner. Also, it now looks like you built the whole thing from packing Styrofoam. Or paper-mache. Or even plastic. Why do it all, then?
    2. Also, you put the steel rebar (rather, guitar string) in the floor/ceilings, but the walls, presumably, are supposed to be cast concreate (in a mold) - reinforced concrete. So, in the very least, in all the blown-up holes there should be some rebar sticking out...

    • @TheTerrainTutor
      @TheTerrainTutor  6 лет назад

      1. Because I might want to theme it with other pieces that aren't naturally concrete coloured mate
      2. It's about showing the techniques, it's down to the viewers to decide how far they want to go applying them

    "It's a really quick and easy technique to do." - Then commences with a 14 minute video somehow.
    I seriously love your work and projects but these tutorials could benefit from some judicious editing.
