Thanks to you, I'm getting back into my #1 hobby. I've been building models since 1954 and have seen many changes over the past decades. Materials are now available to us that years ago we only dreamed of. Now, after watching many of your well perceived videos, and an over 10 year hiatus, I can hardly wait to get my hands back into it. Will specialize in 1:35 scale, and already have acquired figures and vehicles, but all the buildings and scenery will be created from scratch, which thanks to your help is now much easier to accomplish.
With respect. - R.M.
Ralph Miko Excellent mate, I hope you enjoy your renewed adventure! :-)
Mel i'm new to Warhammer and just watching your videos has made me very excited to build my own terrain today i even lugged the perfect rocks down off the top of a massive hill. thanks so much for getting me stoked to build something really awesome.
Carl Burton-Durham That's going to be some durable terrain, welcome to the club matey :-)
After 2 years, are you still part of the war-gaming community?
Great series, even seven years old.
I'm pretty new to the miniature scene and its really quite daunting the price tag on alot of the stuff but these videos have shown me just how easy and cheap it can actually be to do the terrain. you're brilliant sir and i look forward to watching more. Allons-y
Jacob Murphy Really chuffed I'm helping to de-mystify all this for you mate, keep watching, plenty more to come!
Thanks for the videos. I've made a small cities worth of buildings, occupying much of the dining room table to my mothers dismay, but alas, it's worth it. Keep it up
My wife feels the same way about our dining room table at the minute mate, cheers!
21:42 "So, it doesn't really matter which like you look" 😂😂😂 my words flip flop all the time too
I'm getting old lol
Roberto. The staby robot from Futurama, his name is Roberto. Great videos. Great Futurama reference.
+Frannie Hatling That's the bloke! cheers bud
Super playlist really inspired me to make some terrain for my own table.
Very helpful! Thanks for sharing you never ending talents. I'm rather new to all this and you've been a great help for me.
YesterdaysVillage Awesome, good to know you're finding them helpful mate
These are so helpful. Seriously, great stuff.
Love all of your videos! I have been watching for a while now and your camera technique is definitely getting better. When I get back into wargaming I am absolutely going to be coming back for a second watch.
Excellent, thanks for the feedback mate
You asked where the guy named Chocolate Mousse is from, that's from the movie Top Secret. I recognized it as soon as you said it and chuckled.
Jason Stephens Loved that movie! cheers mate
great video perfect for apocalyptic Mad Max cars I build. thanks appreciate your work
Great work, it's a cool idea for me to make my zombie apocalypse city.
You may already know it, but a tip to add a broken window effect is to broke some transparent hard plastic, like CD case (I use "ferrero rocher" case), to have "broken glass" that you can add to your terrain or miniatures base.
Cheers mate, actually, the CD cases are new to me, I normally use blister packs but I'll definitely give that a go. Thanks for the heads up.
nice tutorial, great vid :)
great and easy alternative for machine fabricated and prepainted pieces of terrain :)
Cheers matey
Well done! I've watched a few of these now.
You have a lively & useful mix of structured tuition, freeform play & I've enjoyed your creative investigation of materials. Great for young kids entering modelling who need ingenuity instead of money and something for experienced modellers..
Great channel Mel.
Vikki Wilson Glad you like it :-)
This turned out fantastic!
+Aaron Wolbach Thanks mate
you've inspired me man, I'll be trying this very soon, would your measurements be in 1/35th scale, as thats what I build "Tanks Armour etc " Thank you very much for these videos.
it looks amazing allready
Thx mal my ruin looks awesome!
+Callum Greenwood awesome sauce matey
Interesting tutorial, thanks for sharing.
Anytime matey
You deserve many more subscribers and views my friend your tutorials are brilliant :)
Cheers mate, brought a smile to my face
Excellent work again... really inspiring...
Hey brazil here , nice nice work ,
Well done Mel. I have to admit that I doubted that the building was going to look good (to me at least) when you originally did the accessories but after the texturing and the paint that whole piece is just fantastic.
In the end the only thing that I dislike how every one of the windows is a perfectly square frame. When the rest of the building is just rounded at the edges it seems like some of the windows/walls would be missing leaving just roundish holes in the wall but that's probably just me trying to turn personal preference into something to say is wrong with your work lol
Definitely 1,000 times better than whatever I'd put together before checking out your tutorials!
Do you think that building could handle a 3rd or even a 4th floor or would that be too much for that frame?
Great tutorial pal
Cheers mate, package in the post tomorrow ;-)
Thanks mate :D
Thank you!
Awesome video, keep them coming. I would be happy to play with this piece on any table.
Cheers mate, it is rather nice ;o)
Quick question, can all of this be done with acryllic paint? I'm on a very tight budget AtM (plus the area I live in has 0 hobby shops selling high-quality paint.) Hopefully the same effects can be pulled off with Wal-Mart bought paints.
+austin hall All this was done with £1 tester pots of house paint mate
Очень красиво и невероятно реалистично получается!!!
Спасибо
Thank you! Exactly what I was after! :-)
AWholeCanOfCranky Glad it helped matey
We should call you the terrain tutor Bob Ross
Great video. The film with le chocolate mousse was Top Secret I think ;-)
That was it, cheers mate
At first I thought NOOOO, but then it turned amazing. Should of trust you
Just checking Wilkos for the same color tester pots. They still do Chocolate Dream and Milky Coffee. Can you remember the names of the greys used? The dark grey could be Storm Cloud or Pure Grey. The lighter one could be Urban Grey or Grey White. Still only a £1 a pot, so still a bargain for painting terrain. Cheers Mel.
Slate and touch of silver mate
@@TheTerrainTutor Thank for the reply and cheers for the info!
quick question. I noticed you use black foamboard. is there any difference between the black and white?
More porous and less glossy mate, takes pva, filler, paint better in my option bud
BEAUTIFUL! Do you spray it with a flat varnish to protect it? Anything?
matt varnish or watered down pva mate
Amazing build sir! Do you have a list of the paints that you used for this project. Thank you, and have a Happy New Year!
I don't think the colours even have those names now mate
How would an airbrush work for this part of the build?
+Bolt Action CP Certainly
Great series thanks. How long would you say it takes you from a new sheet of foamcore to a finished building like this, if you're focused and not doing it on video?
for a single build, probably a couple of hours in total but that time comes down drastically if you're chain building a few buildings mate.
Great video
Great stuff brother
Cheers matey
I have been following along with your guide and have gotten up to this point - you mention "advanced techniques and styles" when you get to the big piece; did you end up making this advanced tutorial? I can't find it and would like to check it out before starting with the painting stages. (I plan on doing this today, so I will shoot you an email with some photos as well) Thanks for such an amazing channel!!!!
impulse Actually, that's my bad, soz, it's still sitting next to me waiting to be finished :-(
TheTerrainTutor Ohhhh was looking forward to finding it.
Very good ! Thanks for sharing
canoepict No worries mate
Great job👍
Thanks mate
What paint are you using ?
Looks great ! I think I will do two of them for my warhammer 40k terrain. I think you should add more damages to it but it is just a small detail
Emilio Blanchemain Cheers buddy, my bigger build is far more damaged! lol
Is that 1/35? Really like your site.
Clayton McClain Closer to 1:48 / 1:56 mate, thanks :-)
So what kind of brew did you have? Do you home brew or just buy from a shop?
Coffee mate ;o)
ah look at me making assumptions over here. My wife won't let me drink coffee she hates the way it smells.
What are the Wilko colours you used? Ta
Colours are in the vid mate
TheTerrainTutor hi, I watched it but only picked up you mentioning 2 of them? Ta
20:12 Chocolate mousse, the character is from "Top Secret" ruclips.net/video/tI1diD4joz4/видео.html
a comedy about a spy during WWII with Val Kilmer
+Bigus Rixtus Love that film!
11:00 the true magic begins
Does that make me a wizard?
A terrain wizard!
Chocolate mouse is from the WW2 spoof with Val Kilmer
Love that film!
Top Secret?
yes
Job well done sir. :-)
Thank you kindly sir :-)
Where do you get those paints?
Ethan Grindal They're tester pots from a budget shop called Wilkinsons in the UK but any similiar emulsion(Latex for the US) paints will do :-)
Can anyone direct me to a place in the UK that sells this foam board? somewhere reasonable in price in idling postage. Thanks alot guys
I get mine from the range mate
c- mac Hobbycraft do big sheets of black foamcore for £7. White is a bit cheaper.
Yep, you paint pretty much exactly like I do. And thank you thank you thank you for not painting the building fricken black. I am sooooooooooo tired of the dark grim future being black.
Khorsathedark LOL, I don't need to basecoat it black mate, that's the benefit of using black foamboard.
No, I meant the final color. Your building is grey, I like that. It seems that most people out there making 40k gothic paint everything black. You know, grim dark future and all, lol
put some black wash on it foo
Finally got my foam board build finished :-)

RoninGT Awesome work mate, I've shared it on my facebook page ;-)
TheTerrainTutor Wow! thank you very much for that. I appreciate that :-)
Enjoying your work and videos! Looking forward to seeing more :-)
