Hi Leonie. Glad you are promoting the fine pleated skirt. I have some pleated maxis which flow beautifully and I add tee shirts, jackets and flats etc. when I'm looking for a more casual look. They are my go-to pieces when I'm not scrambling up mountains. Maxis are an easier way to 'buy' into the trend and perhaps more comfortable? - no worries about fat days, lol.
Any tips for someone who carries their weight in the front? I seem to have lost my waist & I have a belly. I feel like the pleats make me look pregnant or just dumpy. Am I doing it wrong or are pleats just not for us chunky gals?
I had several pleated skirts and really wish I had kept them. I love your ideas on how to style them. Those were some really amazing looks. I always look forward to your videos. xo, SS
@@Thestyleinsider. Now that I hit 50, I'm starting to appreciate the versatility of skirts and dresses. Midi skirts allow me the feminine / conservative look I am comfortable sporting. Looking forward to your recommendations.
Just found your channel. I am so impressed with this video.(I subscribed. I bought two pleated skirts exactly like ones you showed about two years ago and never knew how to style them until today. So happy I didn't get rid of them. Thank you so much.
I’m Xs petite and the pleated skirt I bought is 2 sizes bigger ... I like how it sits low on my waist/hips and the loads of pleats trails when I walk ... these skirts are def for all body types ~ love ‘em
I had to pause the video to comment.. I have been contemplating buying a pleated skirt bought one and returned it too..it was as if you were speaking to me when you said it suits everybody EVEN YOU... :-) now i think i need to get one..
I love how styles go around. I wore a brown micro pleat maxi skirt with a white linen shirt for my uni graduation in 1995 (my mum made it, I chose the fabric) 😊Pity I don't have it still.
I think the key is really getting the length right. You'll probably need to shorten your skirt because you'll need it to fall just below your calf so it doesn't swamp you. Also really try and find a fine, floaty fabric so it doesn't overwhelm your petite frame. Just make sure to show a little skin at your ankles and wearing a v-neck helps to break up the look too :)
I have 3 pleated skirts and I'm literally living in it lol.. my go to skirt and for me it's classic pieces that will always be around.. thanks for the tip..
I need one of these in my life right now Sadly I'm a thrifter so have to patiently wait until ya'll have moved to the next one haha! Love your channel so much!!!
I'll be brave and try one on and see how it goes. I stay away from skirts like these and big sweaters. I don't need any extra bulk on my frame. I'll use your tips and give it a go.
Good luck! And remember you may not be feeling it immediately but it may mean you haven't found the perfect skirt for you :) So surprising how they are all so different :)
yeah! i have three lovely pleated skirts...blush pink, green velvet and a steel blue see throughy affair all longish. can you recommend some trainers or shoes that are suitable for the office, please? i have oodles of pumps...
Nicole Sonobe what about a pair of slip-on loafers or even a backless pair? There are so many about similar to the Gucci loafers that I’m sure would be perfect for the office.
The Style Insider yes, i was thinking loafers!!!! what colour do you think would go best? i probably wont wear the green velvet now it is almost spring here, so something that goes with the blush pink and steel blue??? thanks for answering!!!
Yes I hear you. I actually think the skirt with asymmetric hems work well on slim figures as they immediately add more shape. Also you could wear it with a button up shirt tied at the waist instead of tucked in as this will give the appearance of a waist :)
Just found your channel and this was a great video! It just happened to be that I uploaded a video about pleated skirts yesterday!!! I love them too. I just did a video about pairing it with jumpers because they are so versatile that I wanted to do a video about just jumpers!
The Style Insider oh that would be great Leonie! And thanks for responding. Your channel is great! Already watch some more videos. Love it very much as a fashion addict( i am a designer and stylist)
I love pleated skirts! I have a few but I haven't been able to wear them since it's really cold here in Germany and I don't know how to wear them in the winter.
Ella Winberg - Hi Ella! I'm in the UK and it's cold here too. I have a pleated skirt in a faux leather in black, so it's a bit warmer and just more practical for this time of year. I wear it with a jumper tucked in, tights and a leather sock boot as I'm not a trainer girl, then obviously a coat over the top. The metallic ones are good for teaming with a jumper too.
+Helen Mudge Thank you for your respons! 💖 The look you just described seems to be beautiful and warm too😅 I have never actually thought about wearing a jumper with a skirt but I will definitly try it out! Thank you🌹
So glad the pleats are back; I'm loathe to let them go in the first place...so I guess they'd never left (for me)! Lol! I'm still scratching my head as to the best way to refresh the pleats...any ideas? Cheers for this vid, Miss Leonie! 👍💜
Hi I had a question I am 411 and I wear a size 16 I have a hard time finding jeans to fit me where is one of the best places to buy jeans on a budget and how should I pair my jeans so I don't look so short
You're probably not going to like my answer sorry but I really do think jeans are quite tricky to find the perfect fit and it generally takes quite a bit of trying on to get a pair that fit you well. So if you can spare an hour or so I'd definitely recommend going to your local mall and trying on as many pairs as you can. To give your legs the illusion of looking longer opt for super dark jeans or those that have fading down the very centre of your leg. When the jeans are washed out at the front of your leg it gives the illusion of length. Good luck :)
Veryyy nice leonie....another helpful video🤩n i just wanted to ask u darling that m 5feet 1 inch🤫with my little bit baby bump yet although my son is 4 😬😬...do u think it vl look good on me....🤨like i love how everybody just tuck their tops n wear d skirts beautifully but i have this problem of carrying extra weight theret with short height so how i can style it....🧐🧐so i have never tried skirts😞
Yes you can still wear one but perhaps you should try and tie a shirt at the waist instead of tucking it in. If the ties hang down it creates the illusion of length. You also need to make sure your skirt isn't too long - you'll definitely want to see a little ankle. Also remember if you haven't worn something like this before it may take a little getting used to so don't be too hasty to rule it out when you first try one on. Also you may need to try on a couple as they all fit and feel different. Good luck :)
Personally I tend to think that unless you are super tall it's best to have these skirts finishing just above your ankle to show a little skin. You could stand in front of the mirror and roll your skirt up at the waist and you'll soon see if the slightly shorter length looks better. If it's too long it can swamp you and drag you down. HOpe this helps :)
Very good video and inspiration. I want to get a pleated skirt and wear it like you did in the picture of you. lol I really like that you look straight on while talking to us. I know you got a lot of negative comments for holding your head to the side.
Lucky you! With hourglass figures I tend to try and accentuate the curves as opposed to trying to hide them. So a tip would be to make sure your clothes are well fitted and not too loose and baggy. Often women with an hourglass figure tend to hide their shape under shapeless clothing. Instead I think it's always far more flattering to work with your curves and wear jackets that slightly cinch in at the waist. It's all about embracing your curves and working with them - celebrate them - don't hide them. I hope this helps :)
I'll start wearing them when I see the peeps in my college wearing them! It's a small college and I've not seen one girl wear bottoms that aren't pants >
Yes I sure do - I'm over 50 and I know other women my age who wear these looks and wear them really well. So I'd say yes but obviously if it doesn't feel right for you it's not right :)
Pleated skirt are comeback
🙏🏼
Viewing this 2+ years later, still love!
Oh gosh that's great to hear - however, I'm too scared to watch it LOL :)
Fabulous looks, so glad to learn that I can cinch my oversize sweaters with a cross-body bag!
Yes I love cross body bags for doing this :)
Hi Leonnie, I enjoy your blogs, lots of interesting things. I'm in my 60s and try to keep up with fashion. Thank you Maureen
Thanks so much for your kind words Maureen :)
Great video! Love my pleated skirts - such a fun cool look, I find they look best sitting high on my waist, as pear shape body type.
Yep that sounds right to me :)
This looks cool & comfy! Love it paired with sneakers & baggy sweatshirt.
Exactly how I wear them :)
Hi Leonie. Glad you are promoting the fine pleated skirt. I have some pleated maxis which flow beautifully and I add tee shirts, jackets and flats etc. when I'm looking for a more casual look. Oh yes I hear you about comfort and "fat" days - these skirts are the best :)
Leonine , I love your videos !! Keep them coming , fantastic !! xx
Ah that's so kind of you to say - thanks so much :)
Any tips for someone who carries their weight in the front? I seem to have lost my waist & I have a belly. I feel like the pleats make me look pregnant or just dumpy. Am I doing it wrong or are pleats just not for us chunky gals?
Thank you for those great tips👍🏻❤️Love this trend but was always afraid to try it and you made me change my mind😉
Yay! That's great news. Just be sure to try a few and don't be disheartened if the first one doesn't work. It may just be the wrong fit or fabric :)
Fabulous video as always, thank you💜💛❤💙
So kind thank you :)
Leone: I am your loyal follower! Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge of style and fashion.
You are most welcome - thanks so much for your kind words :)
I had several pleated skirts and really wish I had kept them. I love your ideas on how to style them. Those were some really amazing looks. I always look forward to your videos. xo, SS
Oh isn't that always the way - we see something cool when we have parted with that piece! But thank you for your kind comments :)
Hi Leonie.
Leone here! Just discovered your channel as I investigate the midi skirt look.
Hey Leone 👋

Yes that's a really good point. I have often gone up a size in pleated skirts for the same reason. Thanks for reminding me :)
I do that too. I always go up a size or two so it fits lower on my hips. When I wear short sleeved tees, they don't look all bunchy at the waistband.
How do you style them in winter?
I would wear tights underneath and pair them with ankle boots. Fish net tights would look great :)
I had to pause the video to comment.. I have been contemplating buying a pleated skirt bought one and returned it too..it was as if you were speaking to me when you said it suits everybody EVEN YOU... :-) now i think i need to get one..
I definitely think they are a great addition to any wardrobe - good luck finding one you love :)
I love how styles go around. I wore a brown micro pleat maxi skirt with a white linen shirt for my uni graduation in 1995 (my mum made it, I chose the fabric) 😊Pity I don't have it still.
Oh that is a pity :(
Hie ,am very short and always afraid to wear skirts, how can I style it n not look like am wearing a sack.Thanx

MissFlo oh that’s exciting - great to have such a clear idea of what you’re looking for when you’re next out thrifting 👍🏻

Nicole Sonobe how about metallic silver? It would work perfectly with both colours 👍🏻
Nicole Sonobe or otherwise a nude-tone 👍🏻
The Style Insider yes!
How do you recommend someone very slim (size 00) wear a pleated skirt? I always feel like they make me appear to be a flat, shapeless board 😔😣
Yes I hear you. I actually think the skirt with asymmetric hems work well on slim figures as they immediately add more shape. Also you could wear it with a button up shirt tied at the waist instead of tucked in as this will give the appearance of a waist :)
Great advice as always
Mountain Craig thank you 🙏🏼
Hi Leonie. The topshop pleated asymmetrical skirt seems to be unavailable 😔.
Sorry about that. I've found a few more options and added the links in the description box in case you'd like to take a look at them :)

Yay! Let me know how you get on :)
I've been scared to try the pleated skirt trend as I am petite, but these are Great styling tips thank you xx
Sam A def try cutting the hem shorter than the skirt if your skirt is sheer 👍🏻
Some great ideas there. Thank you 👍

Leonie!!! Why in a world did I iron out the pleats on the only pleated skirt I own?! :)
Uh oh!!!!! Is there any way you can wash the skirt and resurrect the pleats?
Hi Leonie, great informative video. Do you think that women over 50 can wear them and not look like mutton..........?
Bola Shonubi yes definitely! I’m 51 and happily wear them so I definitely think they work for women over 50 👍🏻
I have a couple of pleated skirts that I've never been able to part with but they are floor length, is that ok or should I get them shortened ? 😊

jossfloss Yes. Why not.

I come back in 2020.
They look gorgeous, but I can't find any in natural, breathable fabric.
I will get one ☺️ blessings
Yes I definitely think they are a great addition to any wardrobe :)
I'll start wearing them when I see the peeps in my college wearing them! It's a small college and I've not seen one girl wear bottoms that aren't pants >
Yep fair enough :)
Don't wait, start the trend, don't be shy. You'll look amazing.
And wear a smile!
KpopManiac4Life, Sad. Maybe you should have gone to a big school, so you could blend in even more.
Hate to say it but all the pictures you showed, were showing calf length, not below the knee or ankle length.
Thank you great video I love it
Now I want to buy pleated skirt 😉
Yay! So pleased you enjoyed the video :)
Hello Leonie, great video, very informative. Do you think that women over 50 can wear them and not look like mutton.........?
Yes I sure do - I'm over 50 and I know other women my age who wear these looks and wear them really well. So I'd say yes but obviously if it doesn't feel right for you it's not right :)
hammer skirt
Hammer time :)
I think they look awful
And that's what I love about fashion - it's all about individual taste - there's no right or wrong :)
I don’t think they look awful, they could look cool with white sneaker, I think it’s effortlessly fashionable I looove it
