Very good & old Country song,which cannot be forgotten,the images are realistic to the Red River Valley song excellent,I should say.
This was the first song I learned to sing way back in the early 1950s when I was in school and was a sea scout. We would go camping and someone would bring out a guitar and we would gather round and sing this among other song s like South of the borders. Never fail to bring back a tear thinking of the good old days when the world was so innocent.

Dad used to bring us out in a green🛶rowboat on the middle of the St. Lawrence🌊River (whilst Navy🛳frigates sailed by) and he taught us songs and I learned this one at🐥3yo. It was my first introduction to french too, I learned the word "adieu".

This is the first song I learned to sing at age 3 or 4 in the early 1960's. On an old 45 RPM record player. On the flip side of that record was "Big Rock Candy Mountain." On another record I had (at first I only had 2 records) was "She'll be Coming Around the Mountain." I don't remember what was on the flip side of that record.
