Your work is among the most valid in the platform about anime. Can't wait for the Oshii series, and I hope the videos will perform well
Oshii has like 4 careers, its literally like talking about 4 different people so it makes sense its segmented
My body is ready for another Anno-style video. I really enjoyed the anticipation and payoff of each part as they came out. EDIT: I'll be doing annual Patreon on payday!!! 1 week! Cross my heart. Can't wait to see what ya do!
Super, super excited about the Oshii series! I’m personally a fan of his second Ghost in the Shell movie. It’s very different from the first, but it’s beautiful in its own way, and I find its themes fascinating.
I liked it too
Honestly liked innocence more than the first one.
Commenting for the algo, rooting for your success!
I really enjoy your long form content, if you split that kind of stuff up into multiple parts, I'd be really excited for that.
Same here
i think one has to write whole script, then edit it, so it might not be easier, but probably better on the youtube god of algorithm
I really like your idea of doing the Oshii retrospective in parts, but in the end do what you think is better
Good Luck! I hope the series perform well in numbers so that community gets bigger.
Never has it ever happened that I would pray for a video by a content creator to get some traction (was doing it for the last video, so you could make the vids on Oshii), but the algorithm just pricks one in the ass, really hope that you get out of the burnout AND get more views on your recent and coming vids, love you mann
the last video is doing okay, the likes and comments are higher than anything since last december which is good though it's not moving super fast I'm hoping it will be more slow burn and just keep chugging but yeah would have been nice if it broke 100k in the first month
I really appreciate the extensive research you do for these videos and your insight as an animator. Between long retrospectives of major industry figures to a video on Ghibli animators working on TNA Batman, you gave me a greater understanding of the hard work of animation and the industry politics that come with it. Also, thank you for citing your sources! I wish more RUclips essayists did that.
i always try to be clear with them, because it's better for everyone especially if youd like to know more or are doing your own project on the subject it saves other a lot of time
You definitely make the best anime videos. I’m excited for whatever you make.
I need to comment on more of your vids, but I just want to say I truly appreciate your work (a bit of an understatement lol) I'm in my 30s and anime has been apart of my life since I was 7-8 years old. You have provided some of the most informative and creative videos I've seen ever seen.
I've been wanting to make videos similar to yours, but I know I'll get burnt out. I've done commission music videos that were only 3-5 min and I still got burnt out, so I truly understand lol
Sorry for the long comment. I just wanted you to know that you inspire me and we're rooting for you. Stay strong.
long comments are no problem i appreciate the thought and yeah it can be exhausting for sure regardless of length music videos are very full on
Mate you create the best narrative chronicles of the anime industry, whatever topic you want to cover I'm all ears
Yeah, splitting it into several videos make sense and topic is HUGE ( also except Brian Ruh book, some articles and japanese wikipedia., I don't know too much of the sources about Oshii as such). You will probably hint about how Headgear and Production I.G. came into being. I hope you will say something interesting about Tatsunoko Pro.
yeah we'll be talking about the team oshii has often worked with, who do come from tatsunoko/ig backgrounds
Commenting because your stuff is awesome!
I love this channel
Im cheering for you! Hope you'll get all the support you need!
Cant help financially but ill always watch your work ♥️
Wanted to simply say that I appreciate what you do and say thank you. What you choose to do, I look forward to sitting with. Again, your well researched essay work has been insightful and resonant; you as an observer are empathetic to the nuances of complications of intensions and contexts and industries: Thank you.
thank you for the comment.
currently working on the first section
I love your channel mate! If you do go through with your Mamoru Oshii video, I'm particularly excited for the Angel's Egg episode. I managed to find a physical dvd in the UK about 2 years ago (I've got the Tokuma Anime collection version?) And I find everything about that movie fascinating. I've actually never watched it subbed, I just go in raw. The fact that In The Afrermath was kinda the only - albeit butchered - way to see it in the west is interesting in itself. Amazing to hear its licensed again! I remember Bennett the Sage speaking of his burnout a while back, and hes kinda doing longer format videos now, but with no schedule.
Hopefully I'll be able to help out in any way I can in the future, and I'll have a nosey at the Patreon :) Finally, when you mentioned Uresei Yatsura, anything Rumiko Takahashi related always makes me think of her Rumik World OVAs, and the lack of coverage of them on RUclips. Potential future idea? Either way man, I love you videos whatever they are, I wish I'd been subscribed longer! All the best :)
I'm so ready for some Patlabor and GitS. I actually prefer shorter videos. The Miyazaki essays were more digestible for me. It took me 3 or 4 sessions to get through your Anno video.
yeah i dont blame anyone taking time to go through them, it's why theyre chaptered, i make it in pieces, 3 hr 15 mins is a lot to do all at once
This video is a perfect example of how you can make a video about anything epic.
A brief explanation of your ideas for your future videos feeling as deep as the videos being described is crazily amazing to me. Keep it up my dude
Anything you make, I’m here for it
Been watching since you're Thief and the Cobbler video back in the day. You are legitimately the best channel for anime history discussion on RUclips. This new series sounds like it'll be amazing so I'll continue to watch and share in hopes it does well
Just knowing that you are gonna do videos about Oshii, be sure to count me in EVERY TIME MAN
I remember asking you on one of your live streams on doing a videos on Oshii and Tomino.
So happy that the Oshii one is finally happening, can't wait. And all the best for the series and also please take care of your mental and physical health.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THESE.
Good luck! I just watched your video on 'Whisper of the Heart', I loved it and decided to subscribe. Can't wait!
thank you!
I can't support this channel monetarily unfortunately, so I will instead leave a comment. I really like this channel a lot. I rewatch your videos all the time because they are so interesting and there is so much to get from each one. The format is also well done. It feels casual yet, professional. I hope you can get the support you need to continue, this is a gem of a channel and you are a gem of a person.
thank you for comment I really appreciate that
bro don't change the design of your thumbnails, their unique design was the reason why i started watching your videos and what got me introduced to your amazing channel! i root for your channel and your growth inside this platform, you deserve the best, thank you for your art!
I don't plan to change much haha, any particular ones that drew you in
There's a point in life at which you realize that your favorite creators on the platform are human beings who need to eat food and have a roof over their heads. When those creators aren't as popular as you'd think it becomes a responsibility to support them. You're awesome STEVEM, we all want you to keep doing your thing!
I appreciate you talking about the whole effort that goes into making your content. Ever since I discovered your channel here I kept wondering how you manage to put all this awesome produced content in here. Now I know, really no shortcuts, just tons of passion and work!!!
Love ur channel! Topics and Vibes are awesome. Love the animations you add too! Love all your creator and project spotlights!
thank you!
I'm excited for this plan. I love Patlabor and Oshii is one of those anime directors that I find so interesting.
I really love your channel and apreciate all of your work on your videos
Wow you're finally exploring Oshii's body of work? Been wanting this for the longest.
Just discovered your awesome channel and I am stoked to listen to the new ones!
I've always been an advocate for this channel, I look forward to seeing the series thrive 👍🏾
Cheers for the work you are doing, man.
I don't know much about anime, or anything really, but I appreciate the ease of being able to dip my toe in now and then through platforms like your channel.
Remember to look after and enjoy yourself!
Your channel is literally the best anime channel on RUclips, really looking forward to the future series
Just discovered your channel from the last video; PLEASE do an Oshii series! I just finished watching Dallos, Patlabor, UY Movie 2, and I just started rewatching GITS/Innocence/SAC. I'm a huge fan of anime/manga by the Anpo generations and Oshii is a favorite of mine and would love to hear your thoughts on his work - particularly in how it ties into his politics.
likely we'll talk politics in the patalabor/ Kerberos saga videos!
I love your work ! I wish you good luck and hope you'll be able to make this serie
A series like that would be nice to see. The subject(s) of each episode would be nice to watch as they're published.
I will do my part to spread the message of your passionate and insightful work.
i appreciate it !
Commenting because this Oshii series sounds fucking amazing.
It really bumms me out when someone who produces such amazing content gets burnt out from fighting the YT algorithm.. Best of luck with anything and everything that you do.
Love your channel, Will love the new format!!!!!
Far as I'm concerned, you dominate all others in your field. Endlessly captivating.
Awesome idea, love the vids and have for 4-5 years now. Keep doing what you're doing man.
As long as you stress the importance of The Wonderful Adventures of Nils, I'm in
i dont know how much i'll say on it yet, but i'm in research phase now so if anything comes up i'll talk about it in the pre pierotte section, it was the first series oshii did a lot of ep direction on and has some cool cuts, i guess the team involved that follow on as we go are certainly a factor
Man, this is really strange. I just watched a BUNCH of Oshii with my mother, who hadn't seen any of his works. This is one of my personal faves so, hopefully this works out I'll watch all those videos, that sounds great! I'm reading that big omnibus of The Ghost In The Shell at the moment bec, I just never had. Alot more fun than the films but, I still love them. Infact, I don't really understand why people dislike the second film I think it's really great and having seen how different some of the scenes they pulled from for it, makes me respect it quite a bit more than I already had.
Take whatever time you need mate - will be here happily clicking on a new video if it comes across my notifications.
Thank you for all your hard work!
Here we go! Let's go exploring Oshi☆ ❤
I'll always watch any Stevem content that comes out. Your vibe and voice are soothing, and you always have thought-provoking points and lay bare a lot of facts and information that I had no idea about!
I recommended this channel to a friend a few days ago because i truly believe this is the most serious and articulate youtube channel on the subject of anime. I do not think it is even close. Keep up the good work! You are an inspiration!
i appreciate the recommendation of course i don't mind trying to be light and funny too i don't want to way things down in a serious tone,
I'm so excited. I'm not sure if I can shove funds around, but if I can I'll chip in how I can!
And I'll see who I can share this with.
This project is one I care about, and I'm so excited about you specifically taking this on.
I just found your content and subscribed because this is some quality stuff hopefully my new support helps a bit
In the anime community, your pespectives are welcome as you go beyond mere themes and analysis, you're more of a background historian--which I believe has its own challenges that are harder to put together. Any direction you take, is welcome since you've given the community a lot so much.
Sounds awesome! Hearing you talk about your plans has me intrigued, I'm glad you made this video
I love your videos so I'll try to support you on patreon once I'm not broke as shit. For now I'll just have to share the vids around
thank you that's all i can ask
Immensely hyped for this project!
Thanks!
thank you!
Thank you for your art and videos! I've watched the Satoshi Kon Problem video three times! Its my favorite, keep up the good work
I just found the channel a few days ago through the Anno video.. all I think I want is to see you earnestly explore your joys.
Sounds exciting and awesome! Best of luck🫡
Could always crew up - if your patron costs allow it, most RUclipsrs seem to add some assistants to help with the workload at some point. I think shorter eps also sounds good to me though.
I don't make that kinda money, the only time I've had an editor on is by using sponsor money
Just found your channel bro. Keep it up Your work is fantastic 👍
i look forward to what ever you make
I was already thinking before you said it "split it in smaller videos and then join it all up", it really is the better to keep the algorithm on check. Also, i think is a good idea to mix other stuff in the middle, probably lighter in topic or research, to relax the mind a bit and further yourself from the "big video" which can translate to a fresher view in some way or help if you were having problems with something. I really like Oshii, sometimes a bit weird, sometimes really weird but always interesting. And i'm glad you would be talking about his live action stuff too, i feel that "Stray dog" helped a lot at how the place/location looks like, feels and stars in GitS. Anyway, hope you can make it all the way through. Fingers crossed.
yeah likely if all goes well i'll be taking a break on oshii in december to put out some other videos
i would love to see a full episode on gosenzosama banbanzai and its influence on animation. its something i keep hearing about but dont have a ton of concrete information on
yeah it's a thing where i could ssee me going into depth in the mega cut and expanding it out with stuff on gosenzosama banbanzai, but i dont actually know if there's enough out there right now for a full section (15-30 minutes)
This is my favorite channel when it comes to RUclips anime content. I always look forward to the in-depth analysis coupled with high production values that stand above all the other content producers in the same space. I'm looking forward to your Mamoru Oshii series as he is one of the industries' most influential creators.
You have my continued support. Hoping more people will contribute.
If your heart is there, if the support is there, I'm wishing you many years of success. You are, more or less, the only person on RUclips I watch for videos on anime! Can't wait to learn more about Oshii!
Damn, i really need to see that Shunas Journey video. Also i'm very much looking forward to your Oshii series, he's truly one of the GOATs. And you are a top tier youtuber, i love the stuff you put out. Take your sweet time! All the best from Germany :-)
Yeah, boss! Love your stuff. Keep yourself honest and well paced. The work will be successful, because YOU are enough. 😎
Love your channel, looking forward to Oshii stuff! Look after your health
Very excited!! For the videos!
I am excited for these new videos!
This would definitely be very interesting
Whatever you make, I'll watch. Please just do whatever suits you.
Okay, yes to your Patreon. You're the most deluxe creator I follow.
Love this channel I really hope you can continue!
Live Action Oshii has my vote. I ran into one of those movies randomly once and it kind of blew my mind. It had a bunch of scenes with hotdogs. It was weeeeeeird.
But some things I know only a little bit about but would like to know more about and don't want to look into things deeply on my own are more about what the heck happened with the series of Legend of the Galactic Heroes, because it was a book series that got made into a long running OVA series but it started and stopped a bunch of times before it finished and took forever to finish. Also, the growth of DAVID Productions might be interesting if you wanted to capture some of that JoJo momentum that's still going on probably.
Ehhh, maybe a director/producer you could do a big long series on is Tomino? He pretty much created the modern mecha genre and there's obviously a LOT of history there to delve into with a bunch of different series and angles to delve into. It is all mecha though, which is a bit of a dead sub-genre compared to its heyday in the 80s and 90s though.
Anyway, don't get burnt out dude. You're in the top 2 for RUclips Anime dudes. Right up there with Kenny Lauderdale. Take some time off if you need to. Get your head straight and come back when you feel like it.
Subscribed to Patreon, hope you can make this series!
Very excited for a multiple episodes, could be more successful.
Two minutes in... 2:17 "Nope!!! Nothin' weird here!"
I always get nervous when these future of the channel videos come out. I'm glad you are still going to do content. My friend who passed away earlier this year absolutely loved your Anno video. We talked about it a lot
i'd like to make videos for as long as i can of course if it isnt viable to keep up i'll probs have to stop but ive seen a lot of kind words and support come already which is encouraging
Definitely go for it. Your videos are always an instant watch for me. I really hope you get enough financial support.
Just joined the patreon!
WE SUPPORT YOU STEVEM!
ANGEL'S EGG AND DALLOS! LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
The creator videos are the best stuff you make!
Should definitely try long form videos. It's become more people with the older people like me (18) who don't really want to focus on our screens, but do something while having audio in the background that you can look at when you need to. Take Pyrocynical for example.
Do what you think is the best thing to do, I can see that making these videos is really hard (yeah I agree with splitting the Oshii retrospective in parts). However, even if I can't do it financially, I'll try to support your work in other ways ;)
i appreciate supporting however it is like i said comments & shares do really help
Thank you for all you do, take care!
Thanks, you too!
I wonder if getting on nebula would work?
Thanks for the communication
nebula is a nepotism machine as far as I understand, someone from the pool has to recommend you to even get a hearing
Dallos the first ever oav I think
Long or short form, it's all good. Your content is great either way. Just do what interests you.
Aside: They can keep cleaning up Angel's Egg all they want, I'm never giving up my laserdisc.
so you shouldn't that thing is probs a very cool collectors item at this point & i bet the packaging looks great
@@Stevem It's actually fairly plain jane packaging compared to most LDs. But it's got a special place for me since I first encountered it in "the Aftermath" as a kid and was haunted for years trying to figure out where that footage came from.
is it in widescreen?
