Forester looks like an excellent all-round choice followed by the outlander and rogue.
The best mod you can do to any Forester/Crosstrek is tires and they’re basically the perfect crossover
Just can't do the CVT Trans. That's why I got the Bronco Sport over that and the jeep compass. Yes I know Jeep isn't CVT

I like how far from others usually Nissan, Mitsubishi and Subaru - they always around top-3 in most of your tests.
Nice work on the video, I appreciate the work you put into it. I live in Alaska and it's nice to know how the vehicles will perform in slick conditions. A lot of Subarus are sold here. I can see why people would like them.

@@SUVBattle I live in Canada with lots of snow in winter as well so I am really interested to see winter battle of SUV’s AWD effectiveness! I would love to see how Acura RDX SH-AWD system, new 2021 or 2022 Lexus NX series, Ford Escape/Edge and GMC Terrain’s AWD system can be compared to Subaru Outback, new 2020 Toyota RAV4’s AWD. (All gasoline versions, not hybrid) Thanks a ton!

Awesome to see this video finally in English.
It's crazy the difference it does seeing it understanding what you say, when you don't understand a thing. I know you are not biased to Subaru, and is great to see a good and honest video. Subaru doesn't pretend to be perfect, but is the one that will still take you to where you wanna go, and clearly in this video we can see it does better than many others and there's no problems in general having a CVT. Look the Outlander, X-Trail and Subaru performing better than the ones with conventional auto transmission

If I'm not wrong, you have done the test of the CX-5 using traction control off, but I'd like to see a good test of the capability of the new traction assist. I'm not that sure of how much better it is. Does the new traction assist make the Mazda's SUV a capable option?.
Would be also interesting to know your point about the performing of the CVT.
Many people commenting on RUclips or Facebook about the CVT are crap for off road, that Subaru is losing it now in the market, and the typical one saying "Subaru, put there a dual clutch!". Where in fact not all DCT perform good in off road, and not all conventional auto are good too in off road!

Great video comparison.... CUVs most popular vehicle segment. Most drivers may not go offroad, but almost all drivers will face various snow conditions. Should have this test every year or 2 for new CUV models... must watch for the mass population...
I subbed, you are really the future of automobiles. The days of the sports coupe is gone. More people want a car that will go the distance and carry their family. In cars / automobiles people want something that can withstand harsh roads for the long haul.

Note: The Mazda and the Rav4 had studded tires and none of the other vehicles had them . Looks like the Mitsubishi and Subaru had better performance over all.
And the volkswagen? I think it was right up there with the subaru and Mitsubishi. The Mazda and rav 4 clearly need better awd systems.
Good job, please do more to establish the better capable off road SUV.

I know at the start of the video the presenter said it isn't an apples for apples comparison but they used a 2013 Outlander for this test by far the oldest model here vs 2017....2018 & 2019 models and it still ranked that high I wonder how much better a similar year to the Subaru would have done.....
Here in Brazil, they`re using a lot of jeeps Renegade and Compass (model Trailhawk diesel engineer 180Hp).
I use a Subaru Forester AT 2nd generation and a Nissan Frontier/Navarra 4x4 diesel engineer MT.

Now this is a true test. Well done. Love this video. Way to go Subaru. Nissan and Mitsubishi looked good. Wow all the hype on Toyota Ravs and even with studded tires that looked terrible. Most other videos are subjective to Toyota on these tests. You guys did a phenomenal job better then other so called RUclips tests (won’t mention a certain Scotty and tfl😂😂)

I live in Canada, and here the Forester is regarded as the best winter car, followed closely by the Crosstrek. Forester has a full time AWD which is far superior to others. Kia, Hyundai, Mazda, Nissan and Toyota use a part time "grip and slip" Haldex system. Nissan's CVT BTW has a horrible reputation in North America. I was surprised that Mitsubishi didn't do far better....

This was so pleasing to watch!
I live in tropical country and Toyota cars have been known for reliabilty, but performance in this test showed Toyota should learn more from its subsidiarie company, that is Subaru. VW Tiguan performed well despite of its ellegant look compared to Mazda CX5 that has nice look. Thanks guys for this great video.

This channel have the greatest comparison videos by far, especcialy for AWD enthusiasts. The only sad thing is that here in Europe some of bigger naturally aspirated engines are not available bevause of the euro norms and co2 non senses...

Really great test, but very surprised to see how this test showed a completely different result compared to the last test where the Kia and Hyundai did well but Subaru absolutely struggled. Would be cool to see a more controlled test sometime soon!
Subaru was once Airplane manufacturer in Japan. So they have high specialist techniques

It performs flawlessly on pavement. In this test it would have done just as poorly as the rav4

Cool video but it would have been nice to see vehicles all from the same year. Title is 2021 SUV battle but none of the SUVs are 2021 and the rav4 is from 2014. Wpuld love to see a 2021 SUV battle as im in the market for a new SUV
Was thinking the same thing, I watched some other 2021 RAV4 videos in snow and it seemed to do well…now I’m conflicted albeit 2014.

I have a 2013 RAV4 and you can lock all 4 wheels to get out of trouble.. You just have to buy the right grade of RAV4.
Should really try to match the years of the models. The fact that the 2013 Outlander did better than the 2017s and 2018s is pretty impressive

Ugh, I can’t stand the CVT in my Subaru Outback. The best way to drive would be a manual transmission. IMO

@@SUVBattle Thanks for responding. Yes your list may include Ford Explorer & Expedition, VW Terramont. Ford has very good awd & also Haldex awd in VW, Volvo does great job. So it is good to see it in your video.

On my mother's 2014 rav4 you need momentum to even get the awd to work right. My friend has a Mazda cx5 and he floored it and the cx5 didn't make it far as the rav4

Did you lock the differential on the kia?
X-Mode Actually works. The Symetrical-AWD System on the CVT Equipment cars is called Active Torque Split (60/40), Turbo CVTs use Variable Torque Distribution (45/55). Theres an electronic clutch pack in the centre diff that controls front to rear axle torque split, but then an open diff in the front, and rear so the wheel with least resistance always spins. X-Mode On uses the brakes to provide resistance to the slipping wheel, and transfer more torque to the wheel with more traction like an LSD would.
I really appreciate the way you prepared and presented these vlogs all vehicles are very good but two Indian vehicles Mahindra Tha and Force Gurkha , both of these are best affordable Offroader Vehicles in India , they don't have that much power but both can clear any obstacles

Hey i'm here to help. But sorry to say that manual trans on subaru make slightly worst performance when offroad. You get a lot of wheel spin and not enough grip. But you can still make it, but more slower than the cvt ver
@@Notspro I do get a lot of wheel spin, on purpose, for offroad situations. To my understanding, the "low (vehicle) speed torque" of a cvt is less than a traditional automatic and especially a manual(very efficient transfer of torque). Also, a good driver can slip the clutch to obtain a low spin situation( therefore it is more difficultt to drive at
@@vlad9999 yeah i think i can agree on that, if you are a really good driver, know your car and can control manual trans very well. Then manual have more advantage here. It's will be a different case if you are just an ordinary driver

Too bad the Renault/Dacia Duster 4WD is not present! I would have been very curious to see it compared to the others... It seems that its low weight, its modern ESP but its unrefined transmission do wonders.
